1.
My Korg is being delivered tomorrow. GAS!!!!
Wayne! How are you man? Can you post some squeaks and brrrs up when you have a minute? Cheers P
2.
Sorry, should've posted somewhere else! Nancy's fascination with my non-screen name has just come to my attention, and I made a comment. All of it silliness, pardon my out-of-place remark... please carry on!
Hey Rog. Love you really. P x
3. Link here (50 minutes). http://www.fmqb.com/article.asp?id=2474402&spid=783 P
4. I'm not shitting you here, but I think that might have been mine a long long time ago. Myself (and a few guys who played in bands locally) found this place up in Chalk Farm that used to sell on ex-hire and ex-pro gear. Loads of Peavey stuff I recall. Anyhow, I picked up an Orange head from them (there was an additional Orange covered piece at the back of the amp that had 'Property of Davey Johnstone' written in thick black marker. (Given the providence of some of the other gear on sale, there's a reasonable to good chance it was Elton John's guitarist.) Anyhow, me and a mate got it home, on foot, by tube, train and bus and it was DOA; I gave it to my dad (who worked for the MoD in Chobham) and he got one of the techs to look at it and it arrived home working just lovely. It worked for about six months...I did two or three little gigs with it and it caught fire at a jam at someone's house (I can actually remember we were busking through the remix version of Japan's 'Adolescent Sex' when smoke started coming out of it). We yanked the power chord and threw tea/coffee/coke over it to put it out, before it set the house on fire. It sat in my dads shed for a while and then I saw an advert for a store in Denmark Street saying they were buying all things Orange, so off it went. I guess this would have been early 80s. P
5. My good lady bought me a G30 for my birthday last December. Like the bulk of Line6's kit, it does what it says on the box, works first time and is reasonably priced. One word of warning if you're purchasing from Thomann...the power supply is of a European/EU type; Line6 UK sent me a free UK one, so kudos to them. P
6. My Gibson has the jack at the side. That said, when it arrived (Ishibashi), the previous owner had wired it with two volume controls and used the tone hole for the input jack! P
7. Unsure whether this has been posted, but Epiphone have some new classic Thunderbirds coming. White or sunburst, neck through, side jack. From the TB thread, they're made in China, but have the same pickups and wiring loom as the US alternative. Andertons have these listed at £359 (although no stock yet). Nothing at Thomann. For me, I do get a little worried taking mine out to rehearsals, so these may be a feasible alternative at about quarter of the replacement price. 12.
I'll let Glen Matlock call you "Philistine". But thanks for the input!
Aah, what an album. His backing band for that was the late 3 Colours Red. Gotta love the Glen. P
13. Call me a philistine, but VVT every time (and all ramped up 100%). P
14. Who is this guy? I see his beardy face virtually every time I visit eBay. P
15. I like the tone on the first sequence...it's a little less wooly, so I'd like to put that down to it being a more contemporary take. ...my guess; Part#1 is the 2000 MIM Part#2 is the 1958 Part#3 is the 1971 Good one & nice playing! P
16. If someone fancies a white/maple one, I am sooooo prepared to get a black one and swap necks... P
17. I've transcribed what Bass Player have printed below. Since it's birth in 1976, the Music Man StingRay has endured as one of the most iconic electric bass designs. Guitar and bass string pioneer Ernie Ball purchased the Music Man brand in 1984, moving production from the original Fullerton, California facility upstate to its own digs in San Luis Obispo, where it continues to build instruments. In the '90s, Ernie Ball began licensing its Music Man designs for offshore production under various names; since the early '90s, the brand entrusted to maintain Ernie Ball's high standards has been Sterling By Music Man (SBMM). When we reviewed the SBMM SB14, Ray 34 and Ray 35 basses in May 209, we praised the way they copped that classic StingRay vibe at a competitive price point ($600-$700). This year, SBMM has raised the bar - and dropped the price - with it's new SUB Series of basses. With its 3+1 headstock, vintage tinted maple fingerboard and black on black pickguard configuration, the Ray4 has a classy and classic look. In terms of body and neck dimensions, the Ray4 was nearly indistinguishable from the original - the neck's deep C profile and narrow nut width felt fantastic, and the neck's satin finish upped the bass's vintage feel. Plugged in, the Ray4 convincingly captured that StingRay thing - punchy, aggressive and big bottomed. The 2-band EQ - bass and treble cut/boost with a center indent - wasn't the most exciting preamp I've played, but it was helpful if I wanted a little booty boost or high-end pop. The bass did the StingRay thing surprisingly well, but what floored me was the Ray4's price tag of just $260 I've definitely tested basses three times the price that weren't half as fun to play. If you love the look and sound of the famed StingRay players like Louis Johnson, Pino Palladino, Tony Levin, and Flea, here's your chance to pay tribute without having to drop a lot of cash. For its rock bottom price and big bottom sound, the SB series Ray4 earns a Bass Player Editor Award. P
18. Andertons are listing them at £280. Made in Indonesia. P
19. There was a very short but favourable review in US Bass Player (May 2012). $280 street price. 2 band EQ. I've never owned a Stingray before (although I own a Bongo) and I have a penchant for cheap basses. I's a pity that they're not carrying a black/rosewood version (although I suppose there's also someone thinking it's a pity they're not doing a white/maple one). P
20. There's a new range of Sterling Subs coming. Hold your money for the moment. First reviews (Bass Player US) indicates they're seriously cheap and seriously good. P
21. I had one of these. #222. Traded it for an Ibanez Roadster. Sheesh. Where was my head at. P
