1. I tried an A4 at this year's London Bass Guitar Show, and was blown away within minutes by build quality, hardware used, fret work, just a brilliant bass. If had not already owned a couple of similarly priced basses (and as someone has pointed out, my tribute G&Ls are probably made in the same factory), I would have snapped one right there on the spot. On the day I tried lots of other basses and this one felt like it should be in the £1k region, and it was less than half that price point.
2.
I guess what Michael's test shows is that it is not necessary to pay £2000+ to get the tone and playability of early seventies Fender.
True but necessary to get an early seventies Fender which has more to do with mojo, vibe and/or snobbery (not meant in a bad way, rather a collectorsaficionado/connoisseur kind of way!) than anything else. Cause let's face it, to get a P sound and feel, all you need is two planks of wood of a particular shape with four strings and a P type pick up - yep, sorry to be stating the obvious here A cool little test though Michael, thanks for keeping us busy thinking about basses and not ... other stuff
3. Nope, can't tell a difference really; those who say they can hear it, hmm, I wonder if you still said that if the files were merged into one with no pause in between, and OP just saying, hey listen to this great drummer I just jammed with last weekend ...
4.
Speaking of quality I came across a video on YouTube of their production set up in Germany.
I am pretty sure production takes place in Poland, at least that's what the voiceover in the video states. Could explain the exceptional build quality and perhaps how they can keep the prices reasonably low, labour costs in Poland are still much lower than, say, in Germany.
What is the relationship between Mesinger and Maruszczyk?
They seem to be in a sort of partnership, both companies use the same production facilities. Adrian Maruszczyk owns the Maruszczyk bass brand, Marek Kolasa owns the Mensinger guitar brand - but this is all just guesswork I can do from looking up stuff on their respective websites. (For example, Mr Kolasa's facebook feed shows a trade stand with both Mensinger guitars and Maruszczyk basses. But to make it slightly more confusing, Mensinger produce their own line of basses too.)
5. This is super nice, a bold, striking minimalist approach, love it! And you can ask for your band's logo on the headstock, and hey presto - no problem, ready to ship. Congrats, let us know once it arrives how gooood it sounds. I may get rid of the basses I have and put an order through soon ...
6. now that's yet another beautiful Maruszczyk, absolutely stunning! I remember asking this forum about any Maruszczyk owners some time ago, and perhaps had two responses with only one owner... it was not that long ago and yet it seems the love for this brand has all of a sudden exploded in a matter of a year or two. Adrian, btw, is the coolest dude ever, so don't get too worried about his (as you guys put it) "limited English", maybe you should try his fluent German or Polish? (so what's your superpower, eh? )
7. Hey, Is this the one that Jeff Ament is playing here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeDjwoJZtkE ?
8. This is lovely. And ditto re flats, I've put a set on an L2000 and still sounds like an L2000 - ie awesome GLWTS
9. such - this is pretty accurate, however, after years of showing anglophones 'phonetic spellings' of various polish words, to get the first syllable right, I suggest: mah - roosh - chick (the added h means anglophones actually do pronounce those syllables ) and by the way, I really want one now too!!
10. That looks like a pro luthier done the job, very impressive.
11. BassAgent, I believe we kind of met, I was the guy who was trying out a Sadowsky, wanted to then hand it to you as you seemed queueing up eager to try one, and yes you were but for a different one, the red one with rosewood board. So, a belated and a virtual Hi
12. Remember all the complaining about slapping at the show? I walk in and 7 seconds in, first thing I hear is slapping. Actually laughed out loud to myself, like an insane person. Funny how with all the moaning on this thread I expected it to be dull, half- empty and miserable, exhibitors disappointed and tumble-weed bouncing off turned off amps. It was heaving with people, stupidly loud, with a LOT of happy bass faces. I arrived at 11:30ish and stayed until the very end. I tried out some basses that will give me wet dreams for months to come. I tried out some basses I expected to be amazing and they left me indifferent or even disappointed after all the hype I read about them online. Bottom line is - if you play bass and can make it to the show, DO IT. Stop complaining about noise or slapping and try to get out of the day as much as possible. I did and strongly encourage anyone who has doubts.
13. Most impressive! What a lovely pair. Which one is the evil twin then?
14. Phew, good thing this beauty is unlined, otherwise I'd be in trouble! GLWTS.
15. I have the PJ set in a Squire VM, and it sounds great. I have it cos the 2nd hand Squire came with it, dont care about or actually know the sound of Geezer but I reckon they are deffo better than what comes stock with the VMs and since it is an EMG pup that lakland put in his sig, it must be good by most standards. I say go for it, you will not regret it.
16. I cannot find the original post from Roger Sadowsky on this at the moment (seems some places have removed his spiel on the issue) but someone posted a pic of an article he wrote, on fb: https://www.facebook.com/cleartonestrings/posts/481917048503023 Perhaps this answers your question / issue. I personally never noticed any static buzzing when I was using elixirs but then maybe I am just a deaf bass player, I don't know
17. I've had my EBS micobass ii for ages, worth every penny. Can't remember any spiel about piezzo optimisation neither, but have seen Stanley Clarke's rig rundown and he uses one for his bass/double bass gigs.
18. No pics, sparse information on the instrument, no location of the seller, £3400 - I'll take it!!!
19. I'm thinking of defretting one of my basses too, London's bass gallery have a £90 price for this on their website: http://thebassgallery.com/workshop
20. Thanks fellas, just purchased a soldering kit, will be doing first electronic repairs soon, first ever, so wish me luck! Or actually, wish it to the Squier ...
21. Hello, Cables got detached from the jack socket in my Squier VM PJ, ie it is at the bottom of the body so has a barrel. So while I am at it I thought to replace the one that is there with something like this: http://www.ebay.co.u...s-/190816570970 An upgrade of sorts, I guess. Is this the right size though? I am not at home to measure it but are those barrels all the same length? Any advice / suggestions on what socket to get, and whether the one I linked to is fine or not would be most welcome. Thanks.

Great review, thanks.
23. Quite possibly the worst possible picture ever? I disagree, could be the best one I've ever seen.
24. J territory in terms of single coil hum, yes, but hardly noticeable and only when bass is solo'd and volume all the way up; definitely way quieter than a MIJ '94 Jazz I used to have. Mr Petersen suggested another wiring for this, ie change the series to parallel, said it should sound as good as the single coils but hum-free. Current set-up is great, it's as if the humbuckers cleared their throats, no distorted farts even with maximum eq on any of the frequencies with single coils dialled in.
25. I know. It's just another New Meh Day here at basschat, move along
