1. well it sounded alright, I guess, it occasionally sounded a bit muddy but I think it's just how the FOH decided it should sound. Quite a good band btw, interested to see how they develop. Having said that, the band after this one had a classic P and it sounded proper! (But with their own sound guy behind the FOH board though...)
2. Went to a gig last night, saw this one in action: http://www.brooklynvegan.com/img/ah/red7-bvdaypartyfri-20140314/122.jpg What is it? Is it a DIY thing or were/are these in production?
3. Recently bought a used PJ version of this VM, as described - light and a lot of bass for the money. With the upgraded pups this is a BARGAIN.
4. Sorry Tom, did not mean to state the obvious to a very much experienced guitar tinkerer as yourself. It simply was a revelation to me as I thought the action was pretty good but not perfect, having done the set up myself. But I did not like the sharp fret edges so took it for that and also asked them if they can do rolled edges on the fingerboard to get that expensive Fender finish and because the neck is quite chunky so it could uncomfortable after hours of playing. Gotta say they did a great job plus they did a full set up, and damn I was really surprised how nicely even the action got all over the neck. But notably it still does not go as low as on the M2000 which it seems has smaller frets. There, my tupence Good luck with it Tom, hopefully thomann cooperate.
5. Try truss rod adjustment, these G&Ls have massive frets so it is hard to set the action really low with no buzz but I took mine to the London's bass gallery and they did some tweaking with the truss rod and it is now perfect.
6. Thanks bluejay - awesome stuff. From the results it seems upgrading pickups does the trick which clearly justifies me buying a Squier VM PJ with EMG pups the other day
7. Resurrecting the ever *exciting* theme of why people pay sooo much for some instruments when similar stuff can be bought for much less, here's a video of guys from andertons testing various telecasters: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCEdT2d43jU Does anyone know of a similar test done on basses? I suspect outcome would be similar but damn, I'd love to see one such comparison.

G&L L-2000
I have G&L gas ATM. The question is L series or M series.
At these prices, have both! I do, and I love them. Two different beasts, mind.
9. Bought a bass from Dave - brutally honest, great communication, cannot recommend him enough, deal with Dave with confidence!
10. I saw one in action yesterday, first sighting of a T40 for me in its natural habitat - sounded immense, and had lots of tones available from those pups. Most importantly, looked damn fine! GLWTS. PS. The band was Ed Schrader's Music Beat, http://edschradersmusicbeat.bandcamp.com/, interesting set-up... Bass with effects and backing vocals, and a singer who drums a tom.
11. Do forgive my ignorance please, but what is that thing on the back of it..?

G&L L-2000

£294?! Makes me feel like a sucker, thinking how much I paid for mine! Unbelievable price for an incredible bass.
13. Had a four string of this bass. Very, very good. Growly sustain. Can't belive people are not interested in this 5-string. GLWTS.
14. Excellent discussion, some great points made, thank you gents. I can't say I've had a lot of experience with vintage, full of mojo basses but because I now own two brand new G&Ls Tributes I too, like the OP, often wonder why people react to the very old and dirty stuff that they see (not hear or feel) with comments like 'ooh that's sexy, and what a bargain!' or 'I bet that sounds killer!' Some of what you said made me understand these reactions a little better but knowing how much amazing quality bass you get from basses manufactured in Asia it still leaves me a little confused what all the fuss is about. What I know for certain though is that these reactions definitely do not decrease my GAS for a P
15. Oh I'd love one of those but just as Grangur, I can't get on with jazz-like necks. Someone's gonna get a bargain here, and a beautiful one too. GLWTS.
16. small/medium ish size, gotchya pretty sure people at my local Maplins will know exactly what I need (sorry guys, I know it's all obvious when you have a couple of screwdrivers and you just use one that fits best - but alas, I have none at the moment!)
17. Thanks neepheid, had a look in there - but it seems they mean the allen wrench for height. I am looking for info on size of the screw that you use to set the length of the string (intonation setting, is that what it is called?) moving the saddle towards or away from the neck (I am hopelessly non-technical so sorry if this sounds a bit convoluted for what I am asking for!)
18. Lost all my tools and not really in need to replace them all so just want to buy a specific size screwdriver for adjusting the saddles in a G&L Saddlelock bridge (this century Tribute basses) - does anyone happen to know the exact size I should get? Thanks!
19. For this price this is bargain of the year, officially.
20. Fantastic bass, huge sound, endless sustain. Had one in honeyburst, only sold it when I realised I am better off with a chunkier neck. Those pickups are monsters, and they have a nice thumb rest shape, no idea why other manufacturers don't do this, once you try this you'll be annoyed at all other pup covers that don't have this. GLWTS

gone

Very cool indeed!
22. Tom, amazing - a proper player's review! I can get the gist (my German skills are a bit rusty these days) but will use a dictionary when I get stuck. But it seems only the Germans and Poles are buying Maruszczyks - the Germans trust their German brand, and only Poles can pronounce the name
23. Thanks guys. BassmanMathias - of course I have seen this before, what a beauty. In fact, one of the reasons I am considering getting one Tom - awesome stuff, thanks for the sound clips too! (Don't mind German lyrics at all, love the language!)
