  1. Will be tuning in to the Other Stage at 3-45 for punk 'supergroup' Generation Sex. Cook & Jones from the Pistols and Idol and James from Gen X! Punk's not dead! I concede it is knocking on a bit, though.
  2. Here's mine. A pretty little ditty with a feel good vibe to make you want to forget all your troubles, jump up, kick your heels in the air and enjoy the simple things in life. MT Drums, HB Tele with some Vivlex echo pedal, a dash of double tracking and Westfield violin bass. Recorded using various bits of Ableton, Wavepad and Audacity.
  3. Always been a decent player. When I got my first bass I used to love playing along to his lines on the Sex Pistols live at Burton on Trent recording from 1976.
  4. Self-taught and, being left-handed, play right-handed instruments flipped over. Strummed guitar for a bit before grabbing a bass (Starforce 7008, big, heavy thing) and very much started playing in a Dee Dee Ramone style, adding bits and bobs along the way. I've got by over the years despite some of the issues mentioned (never initially paid much attention to muting or learning theory) and had a decent and successful run at playing in various pub bands. Even got some compliments! I've never been the most technically proficient but that didn't stopped me from doing it, nor did it hinder me from enjoying the experience. And I still enjoy playing although I haven't had much time of late to do so. Must rectify that immediately.
  5. Picked this up the other day. A 12 string mandolin which I believe is called a mandriola. The frets are a little wonky in places and the whole thing looks a little skewiff but it's very nice. Looks home made, especially as the bowl of it is an old frying pan! Plays well, stays in tune, very loud and it's non-stick
  6. Ben the drummer sounded genuinely contrite about the whole thing. Well done to Greg James, he got the level of chiding spot on there.
  7. Being a buffoon, I never got around to seeing The Cramps. I've got tickets for this lot in August.
  8. Thanks, all. I'll have a mooch around for a suitable picture 👍
  9. Seems odd. What has your IT department got against the Dutch?
  10. Going to Bedford Esquires tomorrow evening to see noisy, shouty two-piece JOHN. The guitarist is called John. The drummer who sings is also called John. Makes sense.
  11. Just popping home for a bit before continuing around the globe...
  12. I'm in, despite having a major equipment issue so it's all been done artificially in Ableton. 'Green door, what's that secret you're keeping?' asked Shakin' Stevens many moons ago. Now, he's baffled by the bizarre sight in front of him, so much so in fact that he is lost for words. He'll just have to make do with this relaxed, mid-tempo, gently mysterious synth groove to try and decipher the meaning of it all. Don't let it drive you crazy, Shaky!
  13. Cool! Not sure, but I think @Earbrass of this parish plays one?
  14. Yes, those long fingernails are sure to be...oh, hang on...
  15. I tended to look bemused, indifferent, joyous, annoyed, confused and frightened simultaneously. Is it a nickelharpa?
  16. 21 years old, September 1991 at the Oakley Arms, Rushden. Debut gig by four-piece local band the Fly Agarics playing songs like 'Web of Life', 'Moonbum', 'Government Relics', 'Sir Billy', 'Do It' and 'Chemical Bin' that have all gone on to become beloved, classic anthems to rival anything put out by the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin put together. Waddaya mean, 'Never heard of you'?
  17. Truly a community. This place is the best for many reasons, but the main one for me is the warmth of the folk on here, who are so generous to help out and offer friendly and useful advice. Such a huge amount of experience willingly shared, it's marvellous. Also, plenty of wise, old heads relaying their gigging exploits down the years has led to some tremendously interesting and funny stories! And, it's addictive! I should be working right now but I feel the need to mooch around Off Topic for a while. Carry on, Basschat, it's a great place to be.
  18. Been a while. Here's something from Zambia.
