  1. https://www.gumtree.com/p/other-musicians-wanted/looking-for-a-bass-player-and-drummer-to-complete-the-line-up-of-an-electrifying-rock-band/1279546570 "We are looking for a bass player and drummer to join a three piece band". Erm ...
  2. Have you been on SwissChat?
  3. For clarity, I assume that no one is suggesting that the MU offer car insurance? If that assumption is right, then insuring your kit through the MU may well make sense, but that has nothing to do with whether or not you declare to your car insurer the purpose for which you are using your car. As I understand it, that's the main point of this thread.
  4. Given the amount that I "earn" from playing in a pub band, I think of the cash as being a donation to cover expenses rather than income. Taken in the round, I doubt that I would have a problem with describing my journey (in the event of an accident/claim) as being anything other than driving to/from a pub. The issue that would concern me would be having pro-level gear nicked from my vehicle, or my vehicle nicked when fully loaded. I imagine that I would have some trouble explaining why I was driving to a pub for an evening out whilst carrying several thousand pounds worth of gear ...
  5. Not for me, but might be for you: https://www.gumtree.com/p/other-musicians-wanted/bass-player-wanted-by-zappa-band/1279048902
  6. This listing was ended by the seller because the item was lost or broken. You don't say ...
  7. Ah yes ... the great days of The Entire Population Of China ...
  8. Incidentally, you really do need to follow the SoundCloud link to get the full value from this listing. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. Always leave them wanting less.

  10. I'll repeat my suggestion from a few years back. Scan the topic titles here on Basschat. At any given moment, you'll find at least half a dozen workable band names. Off Topic is a particularly rich resource. How about The Onscreen Abbreviations?
  11. Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way.
  12. Hmmmmm. Video DJ or Manchester derby? We've all made tougher decisions than that.
  13. And you can make it worse - I've seen a number of pub bands in London where the 'spontaneous banter' is clearly scripted and rehearsed. My God does that suck. My favourite was a 4-piece band where both guitarists and the bass player had mics & stands. About 30 minutes in to the first set, I finally twigged that one guitarist did all the singing and ... erm ... that was it. There were no BVs or anything going on. The second guitarist and the bass player each had a mic & stand purely to let them do the pre-prepared banter.
  14. Do you mean 'guitar' or is it actually a bass?
  15. I'm still not convinced that you should be parking a Ferrari outside the Dog & Duck ...
  16. Cheap thing by Equinox, worked fine last time I plugged it in. Collection from HA1 3RG or WC1E 7BD.
  17. And then of course there's stinky poo-Glo:

  20. Thanks Mud, very helpful. The landlord now is an Irishman (Shane) - don't know if it's the same guy. We're there on Sat 30th December, which may or may not turn out to be a dreadful night to play our first gig there!
  21. Just bought a pair of ART 322A cabs from Tom - lovely chap, very helpful, knows his stuff.
  22. We're playing there after Xmas, first time at the pub and we know nothing about it. Worse, none of us lives anywhere near Chingford and can be arsed to go up there on a recce. What's it like? How big is it ... is there a stage ... any problems with the load-in ... how are they on volume ... what's the crowd like ... the usual.
