I know exactly what you mean about the body shape. That's why I was so drawn to the G&L. With the current deal on Offer at Andertons you probably won't find a better playing, sounding bass anywhere

I've got the pink G&L Tribute JB2. It's very light. Really nice neck. Typical jazz width but thicker front to back. The neck almost looks like it's untreated but has a very light finish applied to it. It sounds great with both pickups on full. It has plenty of other tonal options but the traditional both pickups on full works really well for me. Love the P style body shape. It's very comfortable to play and balances well. The pink finish is very pink and shiny. Almost wished I had picked a different colour.

I've got the same combo and it is indeed a great sounding amp but am Sorely tempted to do the same modification. If i can can pick up a quality 15 inch speaker at a decent price then its happening.

I had the BB734A. It ticked a lot of boxes as a great all rounder. My problem was I couldn't stop fiddling with the active electronics. Every time I got a good sound I messed it up again by over fiddling. My BB 414 is just plug and play. Always sounds great. Hard to get a bad sound out of it. My other gripe with the 734A was the fingerprints on the matt Black finish. Suppose that's down to me in fairness. Should of picked the sunburst model when I was buying it.

Thanks so much for the replies. That is very reassuring to hear. Got a gig with a new band at the weekend. 2 guitars, keyboards and drums. Was worried the Ashdown would be under powered but am a lot more confident now it will keep up with band. My other rig is TC electronic BH 550 into a 2 x 12 800w ninja cab. Seeing as the cab is 8 ohms probably only going to get around 300w out of the cab so I may as well stick the Ashdown combo

Technical question for the good people of BassChat. I have an Ashdown Studio 15 combo. It sounds great. Weighs about the same as a bag of crisps and looks awesome too. My question is, the amp is rated at 300w. The 15 inch speaker is 8 ohm and their is no socket on the amp or anywhere on the cab to add another speaker 8ohm speaker. Does this mean the Studio 15 will not support a 4 ohm load and will therfore deliver its full 300W output into the single 8 ohm 15 inch speaker. The Studio 2x10 combo does have am extra speaker out socket and assume it uses the same amplifier section. Hope someone in the know, knows.

I also had a BB 604 which was great and really liked the smaller body shape too

A while back I fell out of love with the BB shape and decided to sell them all. Off went the BB 734A, BB1024X, BB 425X, BB 424X and the BB 414. All replaced by Precision basses and a G&L JB2 tribute. Although the 424X was my favourite the 414 was in on an equal footing. Not long after selling the 414 I noticed the Buyer had decided to move it on and as it was only a few miles from my house I decided to buy it back for noodling on or as a back up to a back up Precision. Recently joined a new band and been happily using the Precision basses but decided to take the Yamaha along just to give it a run out. Used it on the first song of a four hour rehersal and never put it down for the rest of the day. It sounded amazing. So many different tonal options. Even the bridge pick up solo'd sounded great. So looks like my love affair with the BB range may be about to be rekindled. That BB 414 is seriously great value for money, its astounding that it sounds so good for such little outlay. Still loving the Precision and G&L too but great to have the tonal range options of the BB 414 back again. Incidentally I actually bought it back for more than I sold it for ....but it did come with a gig bag

Not tried the Rumble 500 or the Ampeg but I can recommend the Ashdown Studio 15. It is unbelievably lightweight at 11.3 Kg. It sounds great and I have had band mates ask me to use that amp over my old trace elliot and Barefaced 2 x12. It only has 300 watts output but It seems to hold its own on gigs quite comfortably. One thing to note is that there is no speaker out socket on the Studio 15 so you can't add another cab but so far I haven't felt the need to use one. EQ section works really well. Built in drive effect is not to my taste so I don't use that. DI socket, headphones out and line in sockets make it a great sounding well featured, lightweight gigable combo.

I had the 4 string version in the same colour. It was a really nice bass to play with a Ton of useable sounds. Love the smaller bodies on these compared to the rest of the BB range. What is the string spacing like on theses. 18 mm is the the only spacing I could get used to on a 5 string. Considering going back to 5 string as the new band do covers versions in quite different keys to the original.

The only other Jazz bass I have played was the Farida JB 20. This is the top of the Range model. Very nice, weighed a ton, but not better than the G&L.

Unfortunately I have never played a Mexican Fender. Did toy with the idea of a player series Jazz as I ready have the player series precision and I really like that. I think for the difference in price the G&L is a no brainer. I still really like mine and am using it over my precision basses. Guitar Guitar are doing good deals on the G&L so may be worth checking them out. Bottom line still really happy with G&L and can thoroughly recommend it.
