1. Have mailed you at Dawsons...... Problem solved, he can stay at mine as long as he doesnt steal all my licks Steve
Will do Supabock! Could you email a contact number to [email protected]? We don't do anything bad with contact details, it's just in case anything changes last minute. Golchen, how far are you? We've got loads of free parking and couldn't be easier to get to from Reading station! I forget to mention earlier but if anyone knows anyone that might be interested in coming please try your best to let them know. This is all being arranged somewhat last minute (2 weeks ago we got an email saying 'Stu Hamm might be available for a clinic, would you be interested?' and 2 days ago we got an email asking us recommend a hotel and book a taxi!) meaning we're slightly up against it in terms of getting the word out so any help is greatly appreciated! Cheers guys!
3.
Just looked at Phil's profile and I see he's not been about since Feb 24th. Hope all good with him.
Well i hope so also, but it would suggest that he is not picking up his private email either as he'll get a notification at the very least that people on the site are trying to contact him....Anyone on the site know him personally??
4. I have the J-Retro Deluxe fitted to my Sei bass, and have to sat that the variation and quality of the unit is incredible, great warmth, definition at both highs and lows and nothing that is harsh on the ears. I have no difficulty dialling in the variety of sounds that are required in most, if not all musical situations today!! I had some PUP problems with the Sei in terms of generating buzz and noise so I gave John, who was most accommodating a call to see if he could help out. Without any hesitation and unknowing that it was the PUPs, and at really very short notice John invited me over, made me a cuppa, made the mods to the PUP cavities and also some soldering repairs, all I must add had nothing to do with the J Retro. Gave the pre amp the once over and a clean bill of health was given.... Now, in my mind, you would need to go a long way to find such a service, and Such a product. So all you basschatters out there, give the J-Retro some serious consideration as you'll not be at all disappointed. If you are reading this John , thanks again for all your help and especially at such short notice. Steve
5. Well, here's mine.....you may have seen her before....Not the most falamboyant compared to others, but great lines, light, fast, and stonkin' great player with some pretty hot EQ thanks to the J-Retro Deluxe. Oh and my latest edition, so that now makes 2
6.
I am selling my Steinberger Spirit 5 string fretted bass. I purchased the bass from new from the old MusicYO site many years ago and it has been well used. The bass has been upgraded by the addition of an Aguilar 2 band preamp running on 18v. The work was carried out by Mike Walsh. The controls are 2 x volume (one for each pickup) and stacked bass & treble. Things to note: There is a small dent on the back of the neck behind the 2nd fret. There is a screw hole on the neck joint where I experimented with a home made arm to hold the strap. The spindle on the treble control is slightly bent. None of the above affect the operation of the bass. The bass is otherwise as originally supplied by the manufacturer. I will sell the bass with the original gigbag, the "string thing" so the you can use single ball strings. A spare set of Double Ball strings. A strap with Schaller strap locks. I'm looking for £250 plus shipping. The Aguilar preamp is worth £70 alone. I live in north east Essex. I'm not interested in a trade. I'm selling the bass because I have recently purchased a Status Streamline. Pics attached
Hi, not being completely familiar with these, has there been routing to the bass to do the preamp work etc?
7.
Happy birthday in 4 days time Gareth, You know what I am going to say....but I'll say it anyway. Commision a Jazz5 from Sei, pick your core woods and finish and I think you'll go for paint. East pre and Barts. I also think you would prefer a dark wood board, so get that blocked and bound. So, basically, a vintage vibe with a modern bite to the sound. If you are ever down my way, you can try mine. Fine tuning stuff would be to run the pre off 18v which I think is better, which pups, soaps or singles looking design and the colour of hardware which should be chrome. Maybe a subtle flame or birdseye neck, not too OTT, Side LEDS an option, but no one really uses them and I have no idea how long the battery is supposed to last anyway. Forget the money, you'll not go too far over it, IMV
A Mega +1 on that one....... I thought for a minute you were talking about my Sei Jazz 5
8.
I have one taker so will order this evening. If anyone else fancies then all the other straps I order in a batch come out at $40ish + carriage + whatever the tax man his us with.
All you players that are thinking of getting one or more of these straps, i thoroughly recommend them as i have two of my own, bought on the same deal....... Comfortable, well made and they spread the laod a treat. People buying straps should look no further !!
9.
Bump!
This seems like red hot deal to me, all that for 350??
10. I remember the Tigers of Pan Tang....................Rock weekend, Budgie, Motorhaed...and what was that band very much like Quo.......????Ahhhh Spider!! at the top rank in Reading...............
11. Maybe that's why there is such a small response.......I don't have a sense of humour anyway so I wouldn't have spotted the subtlety
12. Fair enough....Good luck then, as farmer61 says "Your call"
13. Yes someone who fixes gigs, sessions, musicians........
14. Maybe you use the bottom strap button and tie around the headstock just after the nut?
15. Any further news anyone??
16.
Okay. I want to go on a world tour, all over the world. Never you mind. Bass, amp , speaker and leads. I think this is a question you should ask your teacher. I refer you to the answer I gave to the first question.
Not even sure a fixer would have enough info about you to fulfill your requirements
17. I PM'd him prior to my initial thread but have still heard nothing back....Maybe he's away for a while? Not sure i have a postie unless he's the guy or girl as the case may be, who stuffs the pizza flyers through my door
18. Post some photos and you may get a better response, I for one would like to see it before you ebay it!!
19. Well ok, ive been rumbled on this one and it was the latest, and yes, what a beaut, but i have to say as long ago as when the angel bass was about and the prices were still appropriate then, i had the same ease of playing and all of the stuff i mentioned before....Incredible.... I have to say, i didnt play it very well though
Bernie's latest by any chance? Heard that you played it...
20. This whole expensive bass thing is bcomming quite frustrating.... Yes i do own a couple, but i think back in the day paid reasonable money for bespoke bases, and they have been great tools for many years....However, I cannot get my head round the 4k, 5k territory that basses are commanding today. I know its fairly subjective, but I tried a bass recently and it was a bespoke bass again, by a well made luthier and, well what can i say, it was the most comfortable bass i had ever played, with little or no effort needed to play it, oodles of eq and practically any sound you wanted from it you could get. Price tag, absolutely reasonable and coming in at half of of what these these high priced basses are commanding. A good bass will make you play well but not as well as the person endorsing it may play........
21. Has anyone heard from phil the bassist or received their wish list stuff??
22. Ok, I think i need to investigate the options for sound card to see if it eliminates the compression thing then if not.....well I'll have to see how much i've got in me pockets !!
23. Ok, its an integrated soundcard on an Asrock Motherboard, all the basses that i am using are active , Wal, Sei for example so signal should be good enough.....I have to say i used a turtle beach sound card back in the days and never had this issue so does like you suggest point at the card. Its practically impossible to record in this situation as everything has that mmmmmwwwwaaaahhh thing going on, great for fretless well actually not i have to say.... Sound card suggestions, budget to start with is poss??
24. Does anyone here use Cubase VST Version V (or others), and have you experienced compression when recording clean bass directly through the input of your soundcard on the PC. Just curious to find out if its my soundcard auto compressing for some reason or something within cubase in the audio/ input settings?
