Amp Effects

I have used and owned both. The Behringer isn't bad for the money and is quite useable, though I think line 6's current product line is seriously good. It depends on what you need as it seems to me that quite a lot of bass players don't like patches and routing systems under their feet, but would prefer a more simplistic manual 'pedals' lay out. If, however you like to be able to tweak and save settings to your hearts content, I would recommend the POD XT Pro as a full on recording and live tool.

  5.
Well folks, we have a dedicated ebay forum. I'm not going to preach to you about how to behave, I would however like to suggest a few points for you to consider before you post a thread....... 1.eBay is MUCH larger than Basschat and reflects society, so for every 1 of us that is SSSsssssoooooooo into basses there is probably 4 or 5 that bought a bass played it for a few weeks and got fed up. These then end up on the 'bay ! 2.Not everybody on eBay is a scammer. They may GENUINELY not have the depth of knowledge that the average contirbutor on here has and hence thier descriptions may not be accurate. 3. Any article is only worth what someone is willing to pay....... They may WANT £1500 for a 2003 MIM P Bass but realistically we know that aint gonna happen. .If it doesnt sell they loose out not us ! 4. Flippant comments are not helpful and can be hurtful and desstructive.... please just think before you put... "this ebayer is a lying scumbag scammer !" Even if you have some evidence to support this comment it would be more pertinent to put EXACTLY what your evidence is and what you did about it. Remember the person selling that bass may also be a basschatter! 5. You can put POSITIVE on here as well. If you've had a really good deal let the rest of us know about it. 6. If you have have been subject of a fraud/ scam /or just really bad service----- let the relavant authories know first, so that when you post on here you can update with what has happened. If you can think of anything I've missed let me know please.. Enjoy the forum and use it well, it can and should be an excellent resource
Folks, could you make the title of the post a bit more meaningful to help those who are looking for something in particular? So instead of:- "OMG! Have you seen this!!" do:- " Fender 76 P bass £00.1p" with "Run over by a tractor" on the next line. Also helps those who use 'LoFi' mode on the forum.

  12.
I went to see Jon on Friday on my way through to a Leeds gig and managed to get a few shots of the instrument. He still needs to deal with some blemishes and flatten back some overspray but I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.
Beautiful!!!! Absolutely!!! The top looks amazing - in 'real life' I reckon it's mouthwatering!
  13.
I use a complete Tecamp Rig, (shown HERE ! ) and with a little comment HERE ! If you need more informations, don't hesitate ! I already had different contacts with Thomas Eich, which is very professional... I have the good adress to contact him directly if necessary...
Nice ;o) Yes, I have chatted with Thomas too. It's always great to ask a question and get a useful response from 'the man at the top'!
  14. Have you checked out our Groove Library forum yet?
  15. p.s. - as has been mentioned already, on a laptop, do yourself a favour and disable any communications hardware that you aren't using, especially WIFI. (Not just the software!)
  16.
I have tried changing settings as Ped says, switching off everything I don't need (like the internet connection, firewalls & virus checkers) to no avail. When I am recording using the USB I normally set the input in Tracktion and then mute the output of the track the POD/BOD is going into. With headphones on from the POD you get the live sound of the POD, with no latency, and the track for monitoring, and you will probably find you do not need to set any offset on the track. Once you have recorded you can then unmute the POD track output to hear the mixed playback (and if there is any offset to the backing you are playing along to just zoom in on the view in tracktion and slide your bass track back as necessary. I am thinking of getting a UX2 to get around other problems experienced recording ......
The UX2 comes highly recommended from me! - I'm using it on *gasp* a laptop with Vista 64bit ultimate and it is excellent. The tone direct monitoring allows latency free recording and the quality of the recording is fantastic. I am currently using Reaper 64bit as my DAW, along with Cubase and Superior 2 and all but Cubase seems to be fine.. though it maybe down to the fact that my version of Cubase *shouldnt* work with Vista lol ;o)

  19.
came across this while browsing on the inter-web computer thingy-mer-jig VISTA-INTERFACE
Ahh yes! Useful, but I have found that it is a wee bit out of date, as I know that Vista drivers have been released for at least 2 products on the list, if not more. Good find though mate!
  20.
and line 6 (gearbox has to be open to use interface)
You use Gearbox or Podfarm in the same way as you would use the controls on a POD. It's just a graphical aplet for accessing the massive library of amps / preamps / cabs - and bypass modes. Both peices of software are free with the UX2 and are not detrimental to the interfaces operation.
  21.
I've been looking at the Line 6 UX2 myself and I'm wondering the difference between the red faced UX2 and the black faced one on the Line 6 website.
Talking to my mate who has the red face version and I have the black one, we both got different software.. (I think I got extra free maybe, where as he would have to pay for a download).
  22.
maybe mines will be finished by then
Woo hooo!!!! No word from Jon yet on li'l Doodle. I'm hoping an update will be forthcoming soon! Can't wait!!!
  23.
And they built a VW Camper out of grass
Hey.. like... wow maaaaaaaaan, my ride is....oh wow! a tree maaaaaan! Lets go hug it!
  24.
My EMG-P is definitely quieter with the bridge grounded. Try both and see which is quieter. Can't do any harm.
I have to agree, If I use lots of compression and distortion, having the bridge earthed helps to keep the noise down, picked up from stage lights etc. The reason that it is suggested that you don't need to earth the bridge (and strings) is that with these active shielded pickups, there is no need.. oh.. and there's a 'shock hazard'. If your bridge and strings are 'earthed' they are connected directly to your amp (to over simplify), thus should your amp go pop and send a nasty voltage up your guitar lead, you are more likely to get a nasty 'bite'. - Well, EMG dont want to have fingers pointed at them when something goes wrong, considering the litigious compensatory society we live in these days; So 'no bridge lead' it is. I have heard of cases where amps have gone wrong. Though each of the cases that I found out about were all amps with either valves in the first stage of the preamplifier, or indeed a dedicated valve amplifier. This leads me to believe that a failure in a signal valve had sent the HT voltage (sometimes as low as 40V all the way up to 360V for example) out of the input to the amp. I have never heard of a solidstate amplifier doing the same. If it was indeed HT leakage, then *most* if not all solidstate amps are pretty safe, as integrated circuits and similar SS components need much less voltage to do the same job as a valve.
  25.
It probably gives him a bit of extra positive publicity, but judging by the build times that people are reporting, it sounds like extra publicity is probably quite low on his priorities list right now. S.P.
Heh heh!! Yes S.P.! I reckon he currently has enough work to keep him going right through till next December!
