  8. As a youngster, pre- internet I hadn't really understood who Katy was ha ha! - And for those still wondering: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missouri–Kansas–Texas_Railroad
  9. I have a pair of stunning Power Jazz Bass Specials, which actually have a PJ pickup configuration. Fender Japan were pumping out a few models in "the series" in the 80's (I guess) and there was a Jazz model called the JB-555 which I am guessing would have had the exact same necks as the Jazz Bass Specials, so, I'd be all over one of those. https://bassbros.co.uk/sold-basses/1984-fender-japan-jb-555-jazz-bass-boxer/ I also want a fretless Jazz Bass Special
  10. Thank you! Yes, there's method behind my madness! On a side note, I am planning to get all 400+ videos available for easy searching!

  12. I am a big fan of Gotoh hardware! The GB(R)640 res-o-lite tuning keys are just brilliant. I've asked Gotoh to make FB30 res-o-lites but they have said there are no plans to do so. Which is a shame given the amount of basses that use that tuning key design!
  13. I absolutely 100% recommend the Shuker courses! One of my bass students has recently come back from the course too having made his own bass. I can honestly say (as a professional gear reviewer) his bass sounds amazing! It's been beautifully finished with Jon Shuker's help and it certainly is something to be proud of! That aside, as Geoham says, I know from experience that other Luthiers hold Jon in high esteem, understandable given the quality of his workmanship. Tell him what you need and he'll have the best advice about how to get there!
  14. It is fair to say that my Tokai doesn't have a few of the foibles that my 70's P does! Although I swapped out the tuning keys, the original Tokai ones, even at this age were SO smooth in operation!! I have a feeling they could have been Gotoh made.
  15. It's supposed to be 1981, but frankly its stock model seemed to be late 1980 to my mind. Hmm, good question! The sticker that you'd usually find on the neck was missing, but I have a funny feeling it's something like "PB40". I chose it specifically because its a model with a Sen body (Japanese Ash) and of course has a true "lawsuit era" headstock, which is near indistinguishable from my actual P bass on stage. Because frankly I wanted my old black P bass back and this was the nearest thing I could get. Turns out, these Tokai basses are incredible and mine isn't exactly an exemplary example. It has been loved in the past! Somewhere online you can view all the old Tokai catalogues and honestly, I poured over those for hours trying to find the right model for the job - then, it turned out that my now friend who lives in Japan (where I bought my Aria Pro II law-suit era P from) had one in his collection!! Exactly what I was looking for too!
  16. There's plenty of options and sometimes it can be down to taste as every cabinet sounds different. They play a much larger part in the overall tone especially when we are dealing with say, amplifiers that are. supposed to be 'flat and uncoloured' as an example. What tone are you after? Something really baked in or are you wanting a more FRFR style experience? My recommendations would be what works for me live with the rest of my signal chain and might not fit what you are after. I'll help where possible though! I'm a HUGE fan of the Bergantino 12" ceramics I have at the moment, but I've used all sorts including stacks of Hartke 4.5XLs (when my back still liked me ha ha!) If you are wanting to stick with EBS for a matching rig, each of the three models of cabinets they sell bring their own points to the table. When I reviewed the Reidmar 750, I was sent a 4x10 classic. It was so loud the technical team upstairs from the soundproofed studio heard us. Interestingly, many years ago when I first fell in love with the TD650, it was paired with two Aguilar GS212 cabinets. A sound I would dearly love to hear again.
  17. The HD350 is a great amplifier! I've had the pleasure of reviewing most of the EBS amplifier range and there are certainly a few that particularly stick out as favourites, but you can't really go wrong with any of them. In fact, I have two sat here right now that I am reviewing for Bass Gear Magazine! So, keep your eyes peeled for those reviews. The TD650 was in my top five amps of all time for many years and it only recently got bumped down the queue recently by none other than the 802. That is a wonderful piece of engineering! Congratulations with the purchase, they sound great turned up!
  18. The PB70 US has a 40mm nut. I'm not sure what sort of size that is supposed to be described as. "A +1/2"? For comparison, the Mike Dirnt and Steve Harris sig basses both has a 41mm nut. I chose them as they are based on 70's basses.
  19. October Rust for me, I was a little late to the party but that album is great.
  20. Anyone got a Peavey Cirrus 5 out there? (BXP or USA)

  21. awww thanks for the tag! Yeah, it’d be lovely, sadly I’m having to sell gear rather than buy! Hey @jamesbur! Hope you’re well!
  22. Oh go on then... here's my peach of a p bass too! LOVE this thing so much.
