1. Thanks guys, will keep looking then. Keep going back to Ashdowns at the minute though!
 2. I'm looking at upgrading from my laney RBW300 which is an 165w combo to something more powerful that'll last me a good while. Spotted this combo on ebay going for BIN £199 which seems a bargain so wanted opinions on whether they were any good and knew of only one place to ask This head.. http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-Ultrabass-...r/dp/B0002Z82W6 This cab... http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/BA410.aspx The cab is more powerful that I would need but for the price it seems like a decent investment either way and could always downgrade if it were too much anyway
 3.
I quite like the tone of some of the Australian hard rock bands like Karnivool and Cog. They seem to like to use Warwicks going through Ashdowns, but they do tend to use a lot effects it seems. Good tone.
+1 seriously loving Karnivool at the minute!
 4.
Which is a great shame! Sometimes it does feel like a bit of a "boys' club" in here... Trying to convince my "nearly 14" year old daughter that bass is the way to go...
Trying to convince my 5 and 3 year old girls to go the same way
 5. and cheers Doddy I think I know what you mean. Should really start learning them by note rather than shape!
 6.
maybe im blind but i think you are the first female basschatter ive seen since signing up here
lol there's not many of us granted, there are a few knocking around but we're severely outnumbered lol!
 7. So the shape wouldn't change unless I'd run out of strings like my tutor says then... so, so long as I could play one 'full' shape if you like, and then move higher up and climb up the highest string, that would class as the second shape for the purposes of the exam?
 8.
Allowed another band to use our gear once - never again! They were a punk support band who on their closing song produced water blasters and proceeded to squirt everyone and everything.
:O:O
 9. Sounds like new strings might help if you've not tried already... failing that I had a similar problem once and found that raising the pickups on the E side solved the problem.
 10.
Nice hat
Thanks, I designed it myself
 11. I'm looking to do my grade 4 exam this summer and about to send off the registration form I only started learning theory in january and this will be my first exam. I have one question though, in the book and syllabus it says you should know the scales in 2 different fingerboard positions. My tutor says on my 5 string bass they don't change unless you run out of strings in which case you run up the last string, is that right? I just don't see why they would do that unless it was a totally different shape like you would have on 6 string guitar. I hope that doesn't sound like a daft question! Thanks in advance.
 12.
Seriously? Look at my first post to see what you can get in an old style Ka. You'll have no problem fitting in your bass and amp. Just drop the back seats. Although my combo used to go in the boot with out dropping them, and my bass went on the back seat in a gig bag Its all about space evaluation.
Very true, although my bass case is a hard rectangular type, and seems to fit in awkwardly on the back seats..
 13.
.....and makes me think I should look in Cash Converters more often
+ a million!
 14. I had a 5 string Shine bass off ebay for £130. Loved it to pieces and was actually the 2nd one I'd had in my bass playing career. Great tone, build and looks for the price. I only got rid of it (begrudgingly) when I upgraded for a £500 Dean Edge pro 5 which is a million times better.
 15. I haven't got photoshop... but I would kill for a black/red sunburst flying V.....
 16. aaa pizza hut aaaaaaa pizza hut kentuckyfriedchickenanda pizza huuuuut...
 17.
No...but that reminds me to update my insurance..
and makes me glad I have some!
 18.
Regret that you didn't throw it off of something taller?
HEATHEN!!!
 19. Email back from the promoter, venue still has full PA so it'd be amps and drums in case the other bands didn't bring their own.
 20. I've got an old style ford Ka. My bass currently has to go in the passenger seat! Not even tried to get my amp in yet.
 21. I've yet to talk to the rest of the band about it to be fair as obviously it's their gear on the line too, so may not end up sharing gear anyway or poss only drumkit, who knows. Still making me GAS for a new amp though
 22.
Where's the gig?
Varsity, Wolverhampton
 23.
There's PA and there's PA. If you are D.I.ing into some huge house PA then your existing rig will be do (just). However, if the PA is vocal only and that's it for the bass then I don't think so. The wisdom seems to be more like a minimum of 300W but do make sure that you read the small print. Some amps only give their rated power into certain speaker combinations. Even that is an oversimplification as how "loud" a rig is is down to many more factors than just watts. For comparison I have a 500W-ish Ashdown into a 2x10 and 4x10 and mostly do pub gigs. It's more than I really need but it's nice to have the headroom! Either way, good luck with your new band and sorry the vague and unhelpful reply
Last time I played there I went DI into the PA so front of house sound was fine, was just on stage I could hardly hear squat.
 24.
Can't they provide you with a monitor with a little bass in it? (typically the answer would be no, but...) You're unlikely to get too much of an upgrade with the money you have available - save up, and run your Laney into the ground first
They can, and did last time, but the monitors last time I was there were shocking and I could hardly hear anything other than my own backing vox.
