1.
If I was gonna spend a reasonably large sum of money for something thats going to last me for a number of years, the last think I'd do is offer to share it with a bunch of people I didn't know. By all means upgrade your stuff but hang onto the Laney precisely for jobs like this. If the other bands hear 'yes there's backline but it's a POS 165W Laney' they might be more inclined to offer to bring their own gear!
Very true but if they were using my gear I'd be making damn sure that A) it was suitably insured and that I checked their settings before they started playing. lol
2. Have just emailed him to double check just to be on the safe side lol
3.
Asked to supply the backline? This issue seems to come up a lot around here. Are there no places to rent gear from in the U.K.?
Well, he said backline but I know they already have a PA etc there so would just be amps and drums presumably.
4. I wouldn't get a Marshall simply because I don't want to be mistaken for a guitard
5.
Oh and throwing my Dean Edge 4 off the stage at a gig.
noooooooooooooooooooo!! How could you??? *weeps into the fretboard of her Edge pro 5 at the thought*
6. Woo exciting news First gig with my new band has been confirmed as sat 5th June. Trouble is we've been asked to supply backline. Fair enough, as there's currently no other bands confirmed so we will probably end up headlining unless someone more popular joins the bill. I've played the venue before with my ex-ex-band using my amp (Laney RBW300, 165w) DI into the PA but found that I could hardly hear anything onstage as my amp was basically my backing monitor even with it at full whack. It's old, I got it for free and it's served me well.. but is it time for an upgrade? I could probably justify somewhere in the region of £300-£400 for something new that will be a good all rounder. Currently we're looking at doing pub gigs but if I do upgrade I'd want something that'll last me a good few years really. What do you guys think? Time to upgrade? I've already fallen in love with the little giant 350s but hear they're prone to breakdown..
7. Thanks guys. I did try messing with the dials on the pedal itself, and found that with low tone initially it wouldn't do it, but if I turned it up to make it sound better then it feedbacked and even if I turned it down again it would still do it. Didn't try the amp settings though will give that a go next time thanks.

9.
Was gonna ask what the first one is but according to your sig its a Zoom B2. I have one of those, hateful tone-sucking piece of sh*t. +1 on the Bass Big Muff recommendation, also have one of those, great pedal (the secret to success is the clean blend mode). But it's a fuzz pedal, not an overdrive, so won't get the sound that you might be going for. Beware of getting involved in effects pedals, addictive and expensive business.
I've had the distortion feedbacking on me when on its own, and in a loop with the B2. In my defence I use the B2 for a tuner
10. It's my own fault for being too much of a tight *ss to justify having 2 bass pedals in the house
11. I've got one of these... http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/product/4351...foam-case-.html No complaints at all! In fact it's the best case I've had as it's also lightweight.
12. I would never be able to justify spending over 1000 on a bass unless I was doing it professionally...
13. Hey guys hope you can help. I'm a total effects newbie but have recently been using my Boss guitar distortion pedal with my bass. However I've been getting feedback when playing at high volume (ie at practice) but it's been fine at home. Can anyone shed any light on it? Is it because I'm being stingey and using my guitar pedal instead of forking out for a bass distortion? lol Thanks in advance!
14. You can check in, but you can't check out....
15. Maybe try learning something new or trying a new style? Nothing wrong with having a break for a bit but don't sell your gear else you'll probably regret it..
16.
The only (bass) string I've broken was a 130 B. That was at the tuner because it'd been put on and off too much though.
I always wondered what it would take to break one of those beasts
17. Been playing 9 years, haven't broken a string yet!
18.
On the balance of probablilities, it's highly unlikely (unless the guy confesses, making any action against him pointless unless he refuses to pay up) that any action would be fruitful. Anyone could have done the damage that night.
unless he can get witness statements from others who were there? Like I say although it's a slim chance it's still worth looking into s no point ruling it out as whichever way you look at it with or without evidence it would be the judge's decision so none of us could say for sure. You can get free 1/2 hr sessions from solicitors who'd be able to at least tell him whether it's worth pursuing.
19.
And you are providing evidence that it was him who damaged your gear from where exactly? Sorry Sarah, but the poor guy doesn't have even a pin prick of hope pursuing this through the county courts. The lesson is, don't let anyone f*** with your gear. I have met three bassists at gigs last year who've had their rigs totally knackered through lending them out at shows. Mind you, one of them had a vintage Marshall head that got fried, what in god's name was he doing letting anyone use it?! He even let me use it after telling me this sob story! Nice guy though.
I'm only saying it's worth looking into, he'd need to speak to a solicitor to get an idea of whether he has a strong case or not. He doesn't need a written confession or anything to show the guy is guilty.. I do agree though it's probably going to be one of those 'put it down to experience' cases.
20.
liiiiike...? That's the trouble, I can play all the hard stuff in my collection...I'm now down to trying to playing bach cello suite in G major entirely in slap...which sounds godawful and has no place in this world!! Whatcha got in your collection that has some killer basslines? tell me tell me tell me?!
primus?
21. how about something that is beyond your current reach? Something that technically you can't play at the mo, to give you a challenge
22. Or take him to small claims court, depending on the original cost of the cab, but you'd need a report written by an electrician/luthier first. IF you win you could get the legal costs off him too, or you may be elgible for legal aid. If you're not and you lose though you'd be left with court costs and repairs costs too though.
