There’s quite a bit of conflicting information on the net, however from what I’ve been reading if you touch the strings and the buzz stops that shows that the bass is grounded correctly and the issue is with the shielding? However , If you touch the strings and it starts to buzz, then that’s a grounding issue, is this correct?
  2. Just read this in “no treble” is this correct? so this is a shielding issue not a grounding issue, I always thought buzz stopping when you touch the strings was grounding problem!! If your bass hums once you touch the strings (but is otherwise quiet), you have a grounding issue. If your instrument hums but becomes quiet once you touch the strings, you have a shielding issue.
  3. Got an old 71 Jazz bass that buzzes when I’m not touching the strings, not terrible but enough to annoy me, can someone explain in idiot proof language how to make sure this thing is grounded property, simple enough so that a Luddite could grasp....

  6. Hi Norm, hope you’re all good man....Not sure I want to sell but I’ve fallen in love with Jazz basses, I just know I’ll flog it and the decide I love Precisions all over again.....we will see!

  8. These are a similar price to th AVRI range, but feel a little better to me. Excellent basses.
  9. All good, I got picked up so I didn’t have to drive and also didn’t do much of the lifting of the gear, but as far as playing bass goes it was absolutely fine. I think having the surgery on the left hand would keep me out of playing for longer due to the angle needed to get around the fretboard, but I’m amazed at the speed of recovery.

[/quote] Ah, so using a standard unbalanced XLR cable, but using the pad on the desk to reduce the input signal? And what advantage does the DI box give you over using the DI from the Amp?
  11. I should know this by now so bit of a Luddite question! I normally just take unbalanced XLR out the back of my amp to the 1/4 inch input on the desk, our keyboard player who is our “techie” is on about introducing a DI box between my guitar and amp and taking this then to the desk, so effectively the bass amp just becomes a monitor and doesn’t colour the sound going to the desk. I also use a tech21 fly bass rig which has a DI out from it, I suppose this would be the same as a DI box? So this going straight to the 1/4 input on the desk would be he same, would it ?

Mid sounding flats is definitely not labella, they're deep and thusly....', TI's will give you the mid sound but not much in the lower register, and very very floppy, I keep trying TI flats, I think I like them, try some chromes again, and realize that I don't like TI's at all..... The GHS Pressurewound is a good call, they have good mids and good tension, obviously not as smooth as flats though.

I've currently got Fender flats on my P bass and Chromes on my jazz basses and they are definitely not the same string, the fenders are a much duller metal whereas the chromes are bright and shinny and I think a little higher tension,, and whilst the ball ends are coloured the chromes have a black D string ball whereas the Fender is silver, and whilst the other ball ends are similar colours they are not the same shade, or even the same size. D'addario may or may not make them but they're not the same string, I think I prefer the chromes but it's a close run thing and probably depends on which side of bed I got out of! They're both quite bright to start with but mellow nicely, as for being sticky, that's the one down side of flats, particularly once you've been playing in a hot room for an hour, there's just more friction between finger and string, I find a little bit of "fast fret" before a set works welll.
  16. Wrist is starting to feel good now, oddly playing bass seems to be much easier than driving! Booked a 2 hour rehearsal for Wednesday and got a lift, I’m hoping all will go good.
  17. I do like this setup, I have a very similar set up but with the Markbass 12 inch combo with extension cab and often wonder about swapping for this.
  18. It also depends on what venue provides, if they have PA sound guy and a back like we charge less than if we have to bring all our own kit and PA and do a full set up.

Well stitches come out tomorrow and they are now starting to pull a little, I’m getting more and more movement everyday and managed half hour on the bass earlier, TI flats work well but chromes are a little tougher. Although nearly all movement is back I have very little strength in the hand, again it seems to be coming back a little every day. The gig a week tomorrow is looking good.
