1. My Favorite EBMM Bass. Of all the EBMM basses that I have owned, this was my favorite. I will again, one day get another.
Like it or not, you've been using "effects" every time you plug into an amp. You should maybe try broadening your view, pedals can be inspiring, or just plain fun. Get yourself a delay pedal and play around with it... You might find you enjoy it.
Now, now, you know what I meant.
If an fx pedal is used as an 'effect' it can really do wonders. Playing with these sounds can really take your playing to places you normally dont go. Thinking outside of the box sort of thing. Taste is a subjective statement. G
Sometimes thinking "outside the box", in a round world just doesn't cut it.
You do not like them. So you say. Try them! Try them! And you may. Try them and you may, I say.
Ahh green eggs and ham..... I had a jet phase years ago....30?.....it was fun but I never had any desire to use/abuse effects/pedals. I play straight to the amp with as clean and full a tone as I can get. Guys, I not dogging effects, I just have never had any need for them.
 3. I've never seen the need for using effects when playing bass. As I have heard many bassists use them sparingly with taste, I've heard far more use them to cover up their short comings.
 4. MOSFETS= warmer sound....in most applications....they restrict current as they heat up...but used within their limitations sound "warmer" than bi polars..... 6. I do a yearly "reseating" of all tubes in my SVT and took a couple shots of the insides for you all... Preamp section Power amp section
 7. I am not playing with one now either...I rehearse at home 2 hours a day, good for my rehab......I was dabbling at restarting my original band up from the 80's! (yikes) as the original co founder lives about 2 hours plus from me, but he has gone off the deep end mentally. He was always very hard to work with and ALWAYS talked between songs and would walk out at times if you asked him to be quiet. Many musicians would not play with me when I wanted to do a project if he was involved. It got that bad. Pity though, he was an extremely talented song writer.

 9.
I was looking at the Ashdown ABM 410 T, which is an 8 ohm cab. However, the ABM head (the 500W one at least) is 4 ohms. Does this mean the head and cab are not compatible with each other? Or, does it mean that I need to run another 8 ohm cab to get it to work? I'm not really sure how impedance with heads and cabs works. Cheers Jono
You should run it with another 8 ohm can to get the maximum output from the head. You can run it with an 8 ohm cabinet however you will get approximately half the output. Impedance is a funny thing. The more cabinets you have, the lower the impedance drops. I have given you a link. http://www.sputnikmusic.com/lesson.php?les...d=97&page=1

 14.
We all need to chill out an go "Om..Om..." a lot. To be serious for a moment, and in case my last post was misconstrued. I think all forms of music are valid, whether I “get them” or not. Generally speaking, I don’t much enjoy Jazz and regard jazz funk as pointless. As I said, I don’t really "get" Jazz but love funk, and think combining the two is a bit like mixing chocolate and fish for lunch. That doesn’t mean I’m right it doesn’t mean I’m wrong, it’s not even a question of taste, it’s just a matter of opinion. What I do enjoy is the range of (sometimes) passionately held opinions on this forum and the humour about it, whether or not I agree with them. Having enjoyed the I Hate Jazz thread and seeing the havoc that caused, we get a thread called I Love Jazz, which immediately starts the same arguments from a different direction, I think its great !! Having said all that, and just to prove I don’t know what I’m talking about, the most powerful (whatever that means) music I’ve ever seen was Miles Davies at the Festival Hall a year or so before he died, which although Jazz was really hairs up on the back of the neck jaw dropping. So what I’m saying is enjoy, treat all this as fun, and keep an open mind Love to all, whatever you like ! Chop
Well, I've had Chocolate in bed in the afternoon with a beautiful Lady......

 16.
In all seriousness, probably not most that dismiss it, but yes, a lot of people have a "Fast Show" opinion of jazz. Whether it was formed before or after seeing the Fast Show is a different matter. I'm not blaming The Fast Show for it, I'm just saying it exists. Obviously that opinion is out there otherwise the whole Jazz Club sketch wouldn't exist. Hence things like Chops' "Beret and beard" comment (no offence taken or meant). All I can say from my point of view is that the first time I saw the Chick Corea Elektric Band live, with Chick Corea, John Patitucci, Dave Weckl, Eric Marienthal and Frank Gambale, I was absolutely astounded by the quality of the musicianship from all five of them, and stood up to applaud them all at the end with a lump in my throat. It's very rare I get physically emotional about seeing bands/artistes. What it also did was give me a great interest in musicians of other instruments. I have at least one CD of all of the artists above simply because of that concert. I doubt very much I'd go and buy solo CDs from most of the bands I was brought up on, as I think most rock/pop bands are based around the writing skills or musicianship of one main player. Of course there are going to be exceptions of course - before I get bombarded with "what about (insert band name)".
Return to Forever....the Original Band will reunite in 2008.....Romantic Warrior was an unbelievable album....Stanly Clarke....sigh http://www.chickcorea.com/player_temp.php
 17.
Its MASSIVE!!!!
Why....thank you. About a year ago, I played with these two brothers, a drummer and a keyboardist. The keys wrote all original material and it was "Jazz". Two things. It was the most challenging music I had ever played, and once I learned it, it was some of the most moving and fun. I have songs on my hard drive from that time which I'm glad I kept. We only giged twice, but I learned a lot from that experience. Jim

 22.
Its a whole thread based around smutty inuendo comparing women to basses. eg: "I had an 82 wife-to-be for a while. It was one of those models made in Portugal but shipped to England for final assembly. I just couldn't put her down. It just felt so good to give it a good fingering and the sounds that it produced in doing so were amazing. Lots of growl. I experimented with some electronic gizmos inside her too. Made her sound terrific when I really dug in, but it was the buzz that resulted... I found it very annoying. The action under the hand felt so good and my model was also prone to neck dive... although over the years, those properties seemed to vanish. She also seemed to develop bigger mids and bottom end since I first had her. I could never complain about the tops though. As time went on however, I think it developed a bit of an earthing problem... it kept giving off this high pitched whine. I could never get to the bottom of that particular problem. Anyway, it got to the stage where it felt more natural to slap it... not that I ever did of course. I don't think the neck could have taken it. She was obviously getting a lot of use. Even the socket had trouble gripping onto the jack to prevent it falling out. She went a couple of years ago - I had her setup and I found all the knobs on her body a tad excessive. I prefer a single knob - it's less complicated. She's somebody else's problem now although I have heard on the grapevine that she has now been well played and has begun to relic nicely." I have no problem with this, but seeing as I was accused of disrespecting women through sexual inuendo, it seems its one rule for the gang and another for w*nkers like me. Y'see?
OK...I grazed rather quickly over the link....HOWEVER, I went through the same thing, (I used a poor example) years ago on another forum to object to posters calling each other bass "Whores". It was and still is an offensive word to me. I retract my previous remarks toward you BBC...but please try to be a bit less confrontational....agreed?
 23.
Thanks Dad. I take it your about to make an equally moronic comment regarding respecting women and innuendos on this thread? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=10793&st=20 After all, fair's fair.
Your link goes to a non import subject...... As for the thanks dad....I believe that's part of your problem.....not enough teaching to be thankful for.
