1.
C'mon! You're better than that! Firstly, I made no innuendos at all. I said she looks a bit ropey but I'd still f*ck her. Thats not an innuendo. Secondly, If was attracted to men and found Jaco cute, I'd say the same. As it stands, I don't want to f*ck him. Long hair or not. Thirdly, I put no blame with the original poster. I only mention is original post because it shows I'm not actually off topic. Fourthly (wow - four points!), she is younger, MUCH more talented than me and probably more mature. But I have no problem giving women respect. I'd tell a man that he needs to brush his hair. Equally, I've told many women that I'd f*ck them. It usually goes down ok. Usually. Basschat - the home of the high-horse.
Dude...you're really butting heads with someone who used to act just like you for the same reasons....let it go and move on...it does no one any good....being the fool only amuses for so long.
 2.
Look at the original post. If the original poster wasn't implying that part of his love for her wasn't due to her attractiveness, why did he include a picture? Would he have included a pic of a new male bass soloist? To me, the original post (and several subsequent) implies that the "love" is partly due to appearence. Therefore, comments about appearence are fair game. You're a grown man. I shouldn't have to explain this.
I think it really comes down to this. Why do you find a woman bassist fair game to make sexual innuendos about when an attractive male bassist does not receive the same "praise" from you? And then you defend your "remarks' like your an innocent in all this. "It's the original posters" responsibility because he posted the picture. She is younger than you, more talented than you, and obviously more mature than you. Why do you have such a problem with giving women respect?
 3.
a Utopian idea. Sorry, I know 'be yourself' is a cliche. I just like a bit of vibrancy and diversity. I don't like people being diluted by another's ideals.
Speaking of that,,,,be right back.......

 9.
But others do and is it any wonder they react? I know it's easy to say 'not my problem' when they react. Humility and respect for others does not take much and will earn you the same. Anyway, the gaffer is here and I can hear the jangling of keys as I type!!
Later Jamie.

If I feel I've overstepped the mark, I'll happily apologise. Unfortunately I don't really have a mark. You wouldn't want me to put on an act would you? 16.
Personally I found BBC's comment funny. It reached my gutter humour. It is also blatantly crude, possibly not to everyone's taste. I think the issue here is not this particular post but a culmination of his attempts to provoke a reaction (+ or -). He's very good at baiting and casting and we are the hungry fish chomping away. It's a forum, not the house of commons (we're actually better behaved!!) but it's also a community. My suggestion to BBC? Keep the humour but think a little before you post and don't be too humble to retract
BBC, Listen to Tombboy on this, He was one of the few that had the respect and the balls to tell me where to put mine, and he was right. He has had my respect ever since. Nothing wrong with funny banter, but try to keep it "cool"....
 17.
She looks a bit ropey to me. I'd still f*ck her, but that's really not saying much.
Don't know if I like you yet or would smack you in the face...jurys out...you do however say what's on your mind and I DO respect that.
 18.
Yes. If you want to see real world speaker ratings, then looking at Aguilar's newly updated sensitivity specs (ignore the frequency response ones, they're too vague to be useful), Ampeg, Phil Jones Bass and Acme. Bearing in mind that none of the Aguilar line are designed to go particularly low you can use them as a reference for how much sensitivity is possible from a bass cab. If a manufacturer quotes a higher figure than this then it is based on a peak in the response and possibly even the peak sensitivity from the tweeter! So expect no better than 95dB per 10" woofer, and add 3dB every time you double the number of woofers. Alex
Ahhhh...thank you.
 19.
Close. A 3dB difference is equal to twice/half the power, but not twice/half the perceived volume. Hearing response is logarithmic, so it takes a 10dB difference to sound twice/half as loud. As for manufacturers SPL ratings, they're next to useless, because they aren't referenced to frequency. Some, like Ampeg, quote a legitimate average figure. Some, like Eden, quote a peak figure. Some quote figures that defy all known laws of physics. None save Phil Jones provide the all important SPL charts that allow one to know the facts.
Please explain. Does this mean that an AVERAGED SPL rating is useless? Referenced to frequency? Wouldn't that mean, in a speaker with a frequency rating of 20-20k, there would be literally 20k different SPL ratings if the manufactures referenced their speakers SPL output to each frequency that speaker could reproduce?
 20. Well, an SVT CL and the SVT "Classic" as in the 70's are not the same amp. The SVT CL is Ampegs current long running version of the SVT workhorse. Then you have the new SVT Reisue, of the 70's "Classic" or, as Ampeg calls it, the "VR", with a bit of a different circuit more true to the "original" SVT. I owned the Svt II, and powered two Hartke aluminum 15's with it. It was one of the best setups I have ever owned. I used the graphic eq lots on that amp. I alos played an Ampeg 810 bottom that was in our rehearsal space, (shared) one night. I was using a MM Stingray and preferred the tone of the Hartkes. I was into my, "twangy" sound back then. I own an SVT CL with an 810 cabinet now. My CL is louder than any previous SVT that I have owned, (SVT II and a "Vintage" 70's SVT) The only problem I had with the II was one night I blew the rail fuses twice. I think it was a freak thing as it never happened again. The SVT CL does have an overdrive, or "Gain" control, as well as the "Master".
 21.
Larry who? Dear boy, we're talking about on stage monitoring so you need to listen to the BASS AMP, not the PA Any decent sound man will tell you mids (250-800Hz) are critical to hearing the pitch and note dynamics. Although to give Larry credit, 35 years ago mids hadn't been invented for bass and they were still trying to figure out how to play a bass guitar like a bass guitar So what did anyone say that made you think lows were being cut out? Sounds like you got yourself a bit excited for no reason. Did you read the thread properly? Typing "I like Larry Graham's slap sound" would have probably made your point also.
Crazy, I know/knew what you were talking about....mids hadn't been invented? OK. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2_SreKsg2k...feature=related Now, I would suggest you research him a bit, maybe go back to when he played with Sly and the Family Stone, in the 60's.... and then formed his own band, Graham Central Station in the 70's. He has been acknowledged to be the "granddaddy" of the the "slap" style, and as you can see, had "mids" way back in the late 60's early 70's. I saw him open for Earth, Wind and Fire, in the 70's and he was unbelievable. Musicians were wondering how he played with his thumb. And guess what....there were mids..... Here's a track from the 70's with "No Mids", cause they haven't been invented yet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1IuD6F3R5I...feature=related And here's one for you, since they were "Still trying to figure out how to play the bass"..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZez_k4vAzU...feature=related
 22.
Well the thing I'm aware of is how the mids get soaked up by the punters in a venue. Good mids are the key to any decent bass sound on stage so I'm wondering how much of your issue is caused by the venue and how much by your rig? If its caused by the venue, there's no point in getting better quality kit unless it solves a specific problem. If your rig is the issue then you should probably tailor your set up towards more mid emphasis. I'd imagine the EA is a pretty aggressive sounding amp in being solid state however I wouldn't have made Epiphani my first choice in cabs. They tend to be quite warm sounding and a bit lacking in upper mids generally but I have no way of knowing whether your EA amp compensates for that in any way. The Epi cab + solid state head generally seems to be a popular choice with other BC'ers (particularly GK and Epi) so there's an inference that it might be OK. But what I also don't know is how loud your onstage monitoring volume is. You'd probably find it more difficult to hear yourself if everyone else is playing loudly even if you had lots of power because the sound will get muddier as it gets louder. So if you do play loud on stage maybe the cheapest answer would be to ask everyone to turn down? FWIW Bass Central have a couple of EA 2x10 cabs for sale at the moment for £300 each I think. Given their light weight - might be worth getting them shipped over? http://www.basscentral.com/2003/used.shtml
Have to disagree with you here. No flames please, but I have been playing for over 35 years (on and off)...saw the intro to "slap" by the granddaddy himself, Larry Graham. And the "mids" have become so overrated as of the last 15-20 years. I can't, don't want to remember the concerts or bars I have been to that all you hear from the bassist is the "mids". I am a BASSIST. I play the LOW part of the music spectrum. I can FEEL it, HEAR it, sometimes, TOUCH it. Mids, to me, on many recordings as well as live performances sound hollow and woody. Guys, play the BASS! Feel the BASS. Live the BASS. Mids are for kids!!
 23.
Clipping can't damage a head. But a clipped waveform greatly increases the high-frequency content of the signal, and that can lead to overpowering and possibly damaging tweeters. If you don't have tweeters don't worry about it.
Given the right circumstances, it can.
 24.
About 1400 USD.
Ahhh...thank you.
 25.
Hiya, Again, I'm currently mulling over gear change so may want to sell my current valve rig: 1 x Ampeg USA SVT 300 - 300w all valve power amp monster 1 x Ampeg USA SVP-Pro - again all valve pre-amp 1 x 6 U rack (bought off a fellow basschatter) Put together you've basically got the full classic SVT head. Any one interested in buying this set-up complete ? I've got an idea in my head of what kind of price i'm after...
