  1. We played a charity gig at a school, sadly we had to play later as the guitarist took an evening job and can't start things until 9, by which time the crowd had gone down a lot, but those remaining appreciated it. But seriously our drummer needs a gag for such gigs, his word choice is not safe for school. it was a religious school, it as the singer was still trying to get his sax connected we thought we would start with a song the drummer sings, so we started with highway to hell. Seemed to go down fine!
  2. I have a whirlwind cable from 1991. Fender could learn a thing or 10 from it.
  3. Every time fender come out with a new range or a reissue of a 1992 reissue of a 1982 reissue of a 1974 reissue of a 1968 reissue of a 1954 reissue of a P bass, you hear 'why doesn't fender come up with anything original'. The answer is this thread. "What is the one thing you would really like in a bass" - 'oh I will have a P bass in a slightly different colour please' And its probably right, that is the only thing that would sell.
  4. I didn't mean the basses, I meant the other instruments. Regardless of how your mandolin playing is in your fingers, it still has 8 strings!
  5. In a folk group? Aren't most instruments in a folk group a lot more stringy, like mandolins etc. And hurdy-gurdies!
  6. What a really odd thing to think. I only play 5 strings. I have played a 6 string live but didn't get on with it. So if you are playing mustang sally, don't you think having a 3 string bass is pretentious? I mean, you don't need more than 2. How about the guitarists, they sure as hell don't need all those strings (ours doesn't!) and don't get me started on keyboard players! But in answer to the question, I play a 5 string because I play a 5 string. If I was playing prog rock or disco or covers, I would be playing a 5 string, because that is what I play.

    Boss SY-1

So, in the general scheme of mentioning some new effect pedal which @Al Krow will eventually go out and buy, use, be impressed by, get fed up with and then sell before I get round to trying it, has anyone tried the new Boss SY-1 on the bass? I was thinking of getting either a VB-99 or a SY-300 or even I guess a Future impact, but this is cheaper than all of those and in the (obviously officially processed) videos sounds quite interesting. Certainly a lot less space than all the other effects, and I am sure I could probably find some space to fit it on a pedal board.
  8. The trick now is to get a conversation without them just randomly stopping talking and never hearing from them again!
  9. Seven? Hardly even worth getting started with..
  10. Just booked royal blood in August.
  11. If it is the series / parallel switch that G&L do, you could do the same on the jazz, it would be the same as the S1 swtich on some jazzes. I had that on mine, it was very useful to give it a bit more of a kick.
  12. Oh - Parts - I read that very wrong and was wondering how your rehearsals panned out...
  13. I tried that - it is so weird. Never had any use for it. Bandmix too.. never got a band out of that, but have got a friend, so I guess that is ok. JMB though, I have had two productive bands, and offers of others from it (and a 3rd based on being in the first), so yeh, it is a pain sometimes and there is a lot of time wasting there, but I am more than happy that I have used it. Same here, plus all the 'go and hang out with local bands'. Who the hell wants to go and see some cover band in a pub Luckily, it seems a lot of people do. If you get abuse, you will be in the productive side of the site, at least it means they aren't ignoring you, which is the main thing!
  14. I would normally say Geddy lee as he has been my all time favourite bass player, and probably more than anyone the reason I took up the bass but because of the music I am listening to now, I will go for Mr Nick Beggs, as he is in everything I am currently listening to!
  15. Oh he played bass like that guy from Gillan!
  16. Well, there are some accounts of it above but it is certainly not a widespread thing, we are on page 39 of this thread and it only cropped up a page ago!
  17. At least some of you look happy to be there!
  18. You don't need an adapter, just a trs to xlr cable which is pretty common (although generally you could go straight in anyway). Not sure what you mean about the liver. If you want more slots and have more space, get the LT, otherwise the HX stomp is fine.
  19. She was indeed a dumbo rat, prizes to that man (ie, not teebs) for rat spotting!
  20. Oh if I have told you once I have told you a.. um.. once! Its a rat! (and yes they have tiny hands)
  21. Not even tempted to give it a bit more of a go? Personally I can't play BTB basses either because the string spacing is crazily wide, but surely worth a try for a bit?
  22. No, as I said in the post that that was quoted from. Just making the point about 'by any standard'
  23. While I agree entirely with almost everything you said there (and have said so a few times) I have a problem with this line. What is not a huge amount of money 'by any standard' of yours or mine, might not be of any standard to someone else. Obviously the OP could afford it, or he wouldn't have bid on it, but it always feels wrong deciding what is a lot of money to some people. I do know several people for whom £250 is a really huge amount of money.
  24. I have one of those, its my main case. The strap broke as I had too much stuff in it - I have fixed it now but don't use the straps much any more, and the little tags on the zips came off. I still like it as a case though
