Yes, I replaced the pots in my SR1000, and they are knackered again. But a pain to get as they are custom types
-
This afternoon I fixed my TLB35. When removing the plastic from the pickguard when I got it, the knobs were stiff on the controls. Pulling them off broke one of the pots (it actually went in and out when you pressed it). So looking inside I saw how cheap they were (I suppose ok on such a cheap bass, although Ibanez aren't great on the more expensive ones either). Also noticed they were linear, so I got some log alpha pots, for £4 for 2. I swear it sounds better now although I can't think of any mechanism why that would be the case. however, they are much more useable as volume controls now! Original knob, pulling the knob out had pulled the shaft away from the rotator in the pot! With the replacement.

No, in south or central America, they probably actually pronounce it properly!
-
Yes, the original spanish. Not that i use 'eye' for the start of it, that sounds like an americanism to me. Mine is ib-a-nez
-
Not surprised. The could have just called themselves something simpler Well, that is how I would say it - obviously not using the original german Rickenbacher!

Is this a bit of a bargain?

The advantage here is even if someone was going to try and palm something of there would be a load of 'sorry, that isn't a 1973 P Bass, the screws are in the wrong place, or the controls are wrong', that they couldnt remove, whereas on ebay you can write that but it is up to the seller if it appears (and eBay wont' do anything fast). -
Beautiful - not sure I would like the reverse on the 12 but a great looking thing. Although first time I saw it I thought that it was a screenshot of the outline selected in a graphics program with the selection showing!

I think that depends on your definition of good stuff - that is why I really dislike opera, ruining good music! I understand they are very good for what they are doing, I just hate it.
-
I had one of those briefly, and didn't have the distortion in it. Wasn't totally impressed by the tonepump and would have probably done something else if I hadn't returned it (Not because it was bad, just because I got a dean 8 string really cheap right after it).
-
Same here, I have quite a few, but also quite a few basses and haven't been gigging this year. I have some coated strings that I wanted to put on my shuker and couldn't, so not sure where they are going. I pronounce them duh-darry-oh!

indeed it can be, although at £750 I am sure there are many basses that are good playable basses for less. Problem with all these things (especially fender based things) is that it is very hard to tell if it is a real whatever it is supposed to be. If it is a good playable bass that costs £750 and then it turns out when you get it that it is a modified squier affinity with JV logos on it, would you still be as happy with it (after all it is just as playable). -

As I said, as an investment it is fine. -
I like doing the flex in my fingers, which is probably because normally instead of using a pick I use my fingernails, and they are heavy gauge!
-
I almost always use fingers, but I use a pick if my fingers get tired of if I feel like it. Or sometimes a combination of both. When I use a pick though it has to be really hard, and not even slightly flexible so like fender heavys or the wood ones.

If you collect instruments purely as an investment I assume it probably is. Otherwise you could get something much better for less probably. -
You can if it is the product you wanted to buy. Before brexit I could have just bought that without a second though. Now I can't. Arguably you could call that a bonus

We have been using the Alto TS312 for about 150 gigs now. They are not perfect, but they are cheap and loud and do the jobs for us, using 3x vocals, 1 sax, bit of guitar etc, all from an X18 mixer (although any mixer does). They are not as good as many of the other brands mentioned here, but they were £300 for two with poles and leads of a facebook group page, and they have never let me down.
-
Indeed, the vintage pros are more expensive and newer, the old pros are good and cheap, the bolt on, I wouldn't bother
-
There is no battery on a Thunderbird pro. It seems fine but I sold one for £200 and it took quite a time to sell it so that looks like crazy money. Anything over €300 would be way too much
-
They are long. Considering how much the pro's go for, I can't think of a reason why you would pick the bolt on version.

I want to try an EHB1005sms -
That's handy to know!

It is out - most uk sites are just over £2k now. I guess they don't want to sell any. And I am sure andertons will catch up, but not planning to buy any more anyway.

January the 1st. I tried to book something via DPD on about the 8th of january and found they were no longer able to do deliveries from the EU to the UK. Sure. There is a Rickenbacker 4003s/5 in Thoman. https://www.thomann.de/gb/rickenbacker_4003s5_mbl.htm Hmm, gone up to £1379, it was £1350, obviously ex-vat but free postage, so with transfer fees the worse case is it will be £1750? Andertons.. lets see https://www.andertons.co.uk/rickenbacker-4003s5-5-string-bass-in-jetglo Yep, £3279. Yeh. Maybe I just need to win the lottery first!

They weren't - they used to come by DPD who were great. They now can't come by DPD, they come by UPS, who aren't.
