Oh thats the other thing I noticed. Although I hadn't gigged since last march, I practiced regularly, so it was quite a shock to the memory how much your fingers hurt after 3 hours when you hadn't been gigging for a while!

How can I tell if my Barefaced cabs have blown?
Woodinblack replied to jazzyvee's topic in Amps and Cabs
I would say as it happens with multiple basses and multiple cabs, the only common thing you have is the amplifier. Any chance of recording the crack sound?- 19 replies

Some VERY good news at last - live music back by the Spring?
Woodinblack replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
Brilliant night, great to be back. Resurrected the gig thread in honour of it -
This thread is like a time capsule, it stopped when Covid hit, so I thought well, I would continue the other side (hopefully). Yesterday, after much faffing, we had our first gig since probably the one reported on here in march 2020. It was for a family that just take a complete campsite over to have a birthday party. Turned up to setup expecting like what we had a few years ago, a makeshift stage at the bottom of the field, but no, it was a full marque with a wooden stage part, very impressed. 6-9 with a 20 minute break. We had rehearsed enough songs for 3 hours. Seemed a bit stiff at the start and we made a few mistakes here and there, but the crowd enjoyed it and I really enjoyed it after a couple of songs trying to get relaxed. The guitarist said it was the best bass tone I have had. Same 2 TC 1x12 speakers but the ashdown ABM600 and Ibanez EHB1505ms doing their first gig (and the squier mustang for a few songs). Also I used the SY-1 more than I have before (including an impromptu happy birthday on holiday camp organ sound!). It has to be said the band sound was good overall - I also used a behringer sub I got as a b-stock and that really helps with the drums. Suffice to say we ran out of songs as the songs are faster gigging than practicing and had to rapidly search our lists to remember songs we hadn't played for the year, and my fingers aren't going to be doing anything today - its not the same gigging as practicing is it! Really happy though, can't wait for the next one.

First gig since march 2020. We have had to cancel the last gig because the singers son had covid, and the 2 before that because the guitarist was taken ill just before the gig, and the gig in the middle of lockdown due to rain. Only an hour before I go and set up, so lets hope nothing happens in that time! -
Yes, Take some time, sit down, concentrate and just learn Sir Duke!

You would be ok in the US, but in the UK doesn't that give you a nasty 10Hz beat frequency?
-
How do you tell if one you have is the revised model - are there any outward signs?
-
Oh yes, it won't be like the classic, and someone will make a boutique hand wired one in about 5 years for a few grand! I will wait for the future impact mini!
-
That would have been cool, would like to hear 'don't like mondays' done by her.
-
Ooh - Osborne effect time! Will wait and see what comes out then (or get a cheaper one when everyone upgrades)
-
Me too. Not all of them, only 5 or so have their own strap, so that should cover it. Oh, then how do you fit it to the chapman stick?!
-
Orange is a banned colour in my house, my wife has a pasionate hatred of orange! The only thing of those that really concern me are the connection to a strap. I don't have the same strap on every bass (I don't even have the same strap type on every bass, I have a combination of dunlop and shaller straps), and all the reviews say it is not something you can put on and off. But it is screwed in, so maybe I can make an attachment to different straps. I would however hate it to knock our my friends, I have a headstock for that purpose!

I did think maybe it was better waiting for a second version, but if it does what I want now then it wasn't an issue. I saw a long term review and a gig review on youtube and saw what people were saying were the good sides and the bad sides, and to be honest, the downsides weren't something I would have been concerned about. I saw the silver, it was a bit "obvious big metal box" for me, I can't imagine it would be that popular unless you had a white bass with a white strap. Or maybe it is like that (Unpainted) so you can paint it to match whatever colour you want, so I could have a turquoise one!

Sounds good. Seems like a good answer to a problem I have had. Will report back when I have had it and had a chance to do a gig with it, which will hopefully coincide next weekend!
-
Obviously not - most people aren't aware he could sing
-
I am going to get one as it sounds like the sort of thing that would work for me. I don't play big stages, or tend to sit at my computer naked, so not sure I am the target market!
-
I see you can get them from bass direct, Anyone recently got one from their own US store, and if so, what are taxes like?
-
If you like the sound then it doesn't matter what anyone else things, it is your bass. Only correct faults you have!
-
Yes, very poor. The nut on mine is good but then it is my second neck, maybe they tried harder the second time!
-
Yes, it has now been reinstated, with the new black theme. However, if you looked yesterday you would have noticed it was missing
-
My first bass was pristine. However, my first guitar which was a kay strat got 3 humbuckers, two of which had indivudual series / paralel, coil tap and phase and overall series paralel and phase switches, 9 switches overall, and a badly put in termelo (as I didn't know how the tremelo worked until Melvyn Hiscock had pointed out the errors of my ways. So when I fixed that the front went through to the back. Was a great guitar but it looked a bit of a state and some switch combinations were less than useful!
