Pub gig back home in Lossiemouth about a year ago with the band I played with in high school. Gig's going well, people are up dancing, everyone's having a good time. While most people would have at least a smile upon their face at this point, I seem to look miserable when I play on stage, even when it's a good gig. A friend of the lead singer's mother, who was rather inebriated to say the least, decided that I needed cheering up. Mid-song, she decides to get on stage and perform a miming routine of giving me fellatio, much to the amusement of the audience, which included my dad, who happened to be equipped with a video camera.

Hi all, thanks for all the replies. Ended up ordering a quarter pounder and had it put in on Thursday. Absolutely delighted with it so far. Nice and thumpy in the low end, great clarity up top. Currently strung with Rotosound heavy gauge flats as well. Tried it at practice yesterday and it sits in the mix a lot better than it did with the stock pup. I'm more than happy with the sound I'm getting now, though a few months from now I may change my mind and go for something else, so thanks for all of your suggestions!

Just bought a set of Rotosound flats from Simon. Great comms and sent them first class the following day. Great seller! Cheers!

Thanks for the input chaps. At this point I quite like the idea of experimenting with different pickups to see what sounds best to me and, more importantly, what sounds good in a band setting. You've given me a good bit to go on for now. I'll try a quarter pounder with flats and see how that goes. Cheers! Elliot.

Burrito - Sorry if I've made it a bit difficult to give a recommendation, I'm brand new to P basses so I don't really have any particular likes or dislikes yet Thanks for your recommendations though, a lot of options there worth considering. If I like how the bass sounds with flats then I'm likely to give the Seymour Duncan a bash, though if I find flats too muddy then I will likely opt for the quarter pounder.

I'll try raising the DG side of the pickup then! I changed the strings when I got the bass - a set of Rotosound 45-105 swing bass - and I quite like them, though I was going to swap them out for a set of flatwounds, as I would prefer a fatter sound. The quarter pounder seems good - I'll bear it in mind! Thanks.

Hi all, I have recently acquired a MiM P bass and I'm looking to upgrade the pickup. However, I am something of a novice in this department and am not too sure what kind of pickup to get. I quite like the tone that I'm getting from the factory pickup, but I find that the D and G strings seem to lack a bit of oomph. Also, the E string seems to "thud" a lot when played too aggressively. Advice/suggestions would be very much appreciated! Cheers, Elliot.

[/quote] Ah, okay, thanks. What can I do to fix that? Yep, brand new. I already opened it to see if the battery was the issue, have I voided my warranty?

So yesterday, I got my new Bass Big Muff Pi in the post. Set it up, turned it on, no problems whatsoever. Today however, I turned on my amp and got absolutely nothing. After some investigation, it seemed that the BBMP was the issue. After probing some more, I found that I could get a sound if I used the dry output, however the effect output gave me nothing. Another odd thing that occurs is that when I run through the effect output with the BBMP switched off, it works fine until I turn it on, where I don't get anything. This persists even after turning it off again. I'm really quite stumped as to what the problem could be so any help/suggestions would be much appreciated. Cheers, Elliot
