im there Mark. give me your number dude, ill call you in the week and pester you to come and try your basses. if your lucky i will bring round my Jazz.
2. Yep no worries - hoping to get it in the next month. New one is a Rumour though and not a Spitfire which is more like a jazz and the one that they had in Aroundabout Sound.
would love to come over and have a play Mark.. let me know when your free. i remember that GB from Aroundabout sound and it was very hifi.beautiful instrument though.
3. Go GB Andy you know it makes sense!! More than happy for you to come over when I get my new one for a noodle! You can also try the old jazz and and Stingray that I have as you may opt for a 60's vintage jazz which would take care of your budget nicely!!
4. All this talk of Bernard, had to go and play my 77 Stingray today!!
5. Always loved Bernard's feel and groove but I personally prefer the tone that Jerry Barnes had tonight - he is using an Atelier Z bass of which Francis Hylton from Incognito uses too and his tone is also favoured by me. I suspect as ever, it has nothing to do with their gear and everything to do with their natural ability! Jerry is a very different player to Bernard but I still enjoyed his playing and would settle for Chic on the telly every Friday night!
6. I watched the set streamed live so finished watching it just now. How the hell does het that tone? Looked like GK amps in the background.
7. Sorry - I missed this on Saturday! Andy Baxter has a lot but there seems to always be some coming up on Ebay these days too. I put some pics of my Classic 5 up a while ago and you can see them here: http://s1212.photobucket.com/user/Gunsfreddy2003/library/Stingray%205%20Pics
Best place (apart from Andy Baxter) to find these nice Pre-EB SRs? More info on your Classic 5? CB
8. Interesting thread this and I just bought the Jamup with bass pack and spent a few quid on effects and amps which is great. One thing that I am having a problem with is that all of the music on my ipad is stored in the cloud using iTunes Match and when you try and import a song into the Jam player it says error song is in the cloud or still downloading. Anyone know of a way around this?
9. Yep is true or you can even have jazz bass pickups too if you wanted!! GB could be a good way to go but once you start using one everything else sounds a bit tame in comparison!!
I was actually on the phone to EBS Freak earlier who has a few GB basses, he said Bernie would make me a Spitfire with a MM pickup in the MM spot if I wanted! 10. Tough one this Pete. I have had similar thoughts about all of my basses at one time or another and even more so with a new GB Rumour only a matter of weeks away! Bottom line is that they can probably all be replaced again if you feel you missed them. There seems to be a lot of Pre EB's about at the moment and some nice ones too. To complicate things more I may think of moving on my Classic 5! I bought it because it looked great and I wanted a 5 string version of my pre EB like you and also it was built the day before my son was born so I thought it would be great thing to have for sentimental reasons but god only knows if he would ever really want it as he is only 2! Bottom line is that I can't see much of a reason to have two 5 strings as well as the others. Still I guess we should all be thankful that we are lucky enough to have too many basses!
11. Seriously thinking of making some amp changes again and may let my faithful Mark Bass LM3 go to a good home. Bought brand new a couple of years ago from Mark at Bass Direct and is in good condition with all original box and packaging. It is just a feeler at the moment to see what interest there is in it. Can post pics if needed.
12. It is going to be a sprayed lacquer just like my last one - decided against hand painted yellow in the end! You're more than welcome to come over and have a play when I get it.
That walnut looks amazing, front and back.nice combo of woods mark, should sound the biz..is it an oiled finish or sprayed laquer?or the hand painted yellow?never had the chance of playing one of bernies basses.def top draw mark.be nice to get it for the next gig.cheers Andy.
13. Yep that's it - couldn't remember the bloody name for it!!
Birds eye maple we calls it ...lovely !
14. Hate the colour love the sound!! Bought a TC RH750 recently but think the MB still beats it hands down. Great tone and so easy to usebut if they only put an MP3 player input!!!
15. Maple - and highly figured maple at that!
16. Popped into GB headquarters today and took a few pics of the new bass - should be ready in about a month now. So bloody excited!!
17. I had 3 places offered to me by 3 different places to study a degree in music including The City of Leeds College of Music and I chose to pass them up and go travelling instead. I often wonder what they may have led to and how things would be different now, not just in terms of career but also playing ability.
18. I might be interested in doing this for you if Myke's offer does not work out.
19. We have just learnt this tune and our keys player nailed the intro and it sounds great so I would tell him to get his act together rather than try and emulate it on bass! Agree with the comments on using 5 string, we play in the key it was recorded in so you are looking at Eb and on a 4 string it does sound a bit pap. I have come up with a bassline somewhere near to the original but also adding in a bit of my own stuff to make it more our sound. It is hard because as said before it is all synth and no real bass so really hard to copy even with the Deep Impact on!
20. Having gone through most filters from a 70's MuTron through to a Chunk Systems 00 Funk with some MXR and Maxon in between I would say that the Aguilar Filter Twin is the best around. It is small, sounds great with any bass and has a real depth of one equally as good as a MuTron IMHO. I used it in the studio recently and you can hear what it sounds like below. https://soundcloud.com/soular-funk/get-up
21. Still sorting out finer details on finish but yellow paint is still in contention!
22. I know - I don't think any of the others will see much use! Hoping for some more up to date pics next week.
bet you cant wait 2 pick it up.sweet Mark.cant see you picking the mm5 up when you get this baby?
