  1. Agreed, but bizarrely It’s def hitting my ‘guilty pleasure” spot!
  2. Thanks for all of the replies, very helpful. I've just bought a new Steinberger Spirit, (the Argos collection via eBay is a huge help) I fancied a new one anyway and also having some fun tinkering around with the set up and tone - I read that CTS pots help open up the tone, so I may as well add a pan pot and Fender TBX pot while I'm there - I'll have my tools ready Frank, and may commission a strap extension from you one day if you're willing I'll probably add some Picato flats, but will keep in mind the GHS shout out in case I like it with rounds, cheers lefty. I know what you mean about the PJ Paul, my fear is that my P & J Basses will be a benchmark too high for it to reach! Getting it on Thursday, not expecting much to be honest, but an NBD is an NBD
  3. I’m looking at getting a Steinberger Spirit XT-2 for when I’m working away from home. Anyone had one? I’m finding mixed reviews, though to be honest I wouldn’t exactly expect much anyway from such a thing! I expect the Hohner B2A would be better quality, but there’s none local to me s/hand, and these days I’m more partial to a new bass over old...unless it’s a 60’s P Bass Any thoughts welcome, I may be pulling the trigger tomorrow morning...
  4. SOLD Rare Music Man Hard Case, pre EB. Catches and handle work fine. Collection only from Harrow, HA1. Thanks.
  5. Indeed... I’m kevin, and so is my wife. As for the real Kevin, I’ve known him over 10 years, and though I’ve never had any work done on my bass by him, he’s a lovely fella.
  6. That’s usually a sign of a rod that’s too tight, this colder time of year doesn’t help. They can be very stiff, often I’ve had to give some heft to budge them first time, don’t be worried if it makes a loud noise either. Try a 1/4 turn at a time, if you’re confident, and can measure the relief. If not, I think there’s a thread in the repairs section about basschatters willing to offer local help for such like things. I’d check out the rod before saddle height. Good luck
  7. It was 1994 (if it was UK tour I saw)...somehow’ you lost a year
  8. Looks that way. I really liked the ones I had, much more than the later JV’s I owned, and in fact many other P’s too. Enjoy.
  9. It mentions the A pocket here, in the first shown spec list http://www.21frets.com/squier_jv/jv_quick_guide.htm
  10. I’ve just got it, the ones I mean has the squire logo at the tip of the head, as well as the big Fender logo, yours doesn’t seem to have that. Maybe 21 frets has a clue for you?
  11. Might be an import v export thing? I’ve seen others with off white single ply plastic ones too.
  12. Have a mooch around the '21 frets' website.
  13. I'm no JV expert, but the 2 x Fender logo 1982 '57 Reissue P Basses I owned had off white original pickguards. Lovely basses.
  14. Cheers for posting, STP have always been one of my fave’s. All 4 original members are just so good, and Robert has been a big influence, yet when I hear them play without Scott I find it harder to enjoy, his hooks and melodies were outstsnding.
  15. Could premier at the WOMaD festival?
  16. Think I’ll do a uke version of a Momats instrumental
  17. Looking forward to to listening over the next day or two. Have had to stop enjoying taking part as I’m now a Uni student for the first time... but it ain’t teenage kicks with time to play as I’m working hard full time, paying a mortgage and nearing 40
  18. 1959, but what’s in a year?
  19. Indeed they do, very temperamental material. Plus they also go up in flames if you leave them near heat - like too close to a lamp, this happened to a good pal of mine.
  20. I’ll be back for the Modulus once I’ve nabbed the Wal
  21. I haven’t been looking to buy a bass in a while, (unless Warren wants to sell me his Wal mk3 ), but I do like to keep an eye on the market place for fun and interest - basically because the prices here can go from bargain to reasonable to dealer price, so some are to gawp at and others to just scratch your head at. Doesn’t bother me though tbh, but I did like the rant
  22. Gutted to hear that, £1200 for a Lull is already amazing. GLWTS.
  23. Cut the wire from the solder joints on your current pots etc, then strip them back and screw into the sockets in the new preamp - similar, but not quite, like changing a plug. You’ll need a very small flat head screwdriver.
