1. Daf is there anyone between Pete & I? If not, Pete PM me your address and I'll send them on when I am done. Paul.
2. The other reason for using hide glue is that heat & Moisture and you can fully dismantle a bass for repairs. Paul.
3. Looks like Joe Zinkan has his action a shade higher! Paul.
4. The action does sound low as it is. I think mine's higher than that and I have mine relatively low. I'll try to measure mine. In what way is it hard work?? Paul.
5. You can tell they are serious by their listing of budget basses.
6. First impressions - very nice. Love the bite at the start of a note playing pizz.
7.
Don't we all wish we had enough basses to make this worthwhile?
Indeed. Paul.
8. Bought the EA Micro from Jonny - understanding of a paypal hitch, prompt despatch and well packed. Thanks, Paul.
9. First advice when struggling with sound is always turn down - just as others have said. IEMs are great if you can get on with them. they contribute to much lower stage volume - that's good for you and good for the FOH sound. It's also one less set of speakers to feed back. The biggest issues are isolation, and less feeling of volume. Some people play better when they can feel the air moving around the,. The isolation is twofold. You cannot lean over to the guitarist for a quick word the same. The other side is audience noise is reduced - That can be good thing, but if banter is a part of the show it isn't as easy. The easiest way round that is to have an ambient mike - I used to use a PZM - and route that just into the monitors.
10. I have one similar to that and also one of these - http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/clarke-cstf4-aluminium-flat-folding-sack-truck The one you mention is a little more stable in use, the MM one folds flatter. The two comments are entirely related as the wheels on the MM one do not seem to latch in the open position...
11. Very definitely hide glue. The BIG advantage of hide glue is that with application of heat it can be removed, allowing future repairs to the bass. Bummer though - huge disappointment :-( Paul.
12. I tend not to bother with an amp at home...
13. Nothing wrong with wanting everything! It does come down to light, powerful, cheap. Pick two. Occasionally bargains do come up. I'd not be overly worried initially about power - I'd see what I could do about borrowing a rig or two to see how they fare. I'd also say that at larger gigs, you'll probably be off to the PA for FOH anyway. It's rehearsals and smaller gigs that are probably the immediate concern. For rehearsals I'd suggest you consider an amp stand if using a combo. A combo sitting on the floor is all well and good, but the sound is going nowhere near your ears! You could look at something like http://ponymusic.com.au/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/OSRS7705.jpg or if handy with a saw http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g41/Bluesbob/AmpStand2.jpg or from another angle http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g41/Bluesbob/2X10Bassmancombo3.jpg Paul.
14. Also are you looking at NEW basses - they do sometime take a little playing in. Paul.
15. Chris, it might be worth hanging on a little to try to save some more money. By all means go for it if you see a bargain but for what you want even an extra £100 opens more possibilities. How many pickups are you using on the bass? Just a bridge pickup or a neck pickup as well? Using two pickups I like to have two proper channels with separate EQ so I can treat the slap separate to the bridge. Amps like the old HH Bass Machine, Trace TAB100, EA Iamp micro/doubler spring to mind but there are others. A useful feature for any acoustic bass is a notch filter for the fight against feedback. Head/cab or combo is personal choice. Separates give greater choice, Combo is convenient. Some of the modern amps are incredible in power to weight - a couple of pounds weight and 500 Watts! they may be a touch out of your budget though. Paul.
16. Never got on with anything self adhesive like that. The velcro has a tendency to move on the pedal, and the glue seems to spread out. Also if the velcro is grippy enough to not move around, it's difficult to remove, so I use stuff like http://www.pedalstuff.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=7&zenid=6a0eb27777277e6d30f8cd062b131926 Paul.
17. I'd be interested in trying them please - have had rockabillys for as long as I can remember!
18. That's a bonny bass, pity it's out of reach. Given the normal comparison with the female form, I love the muffin-top corners :-) Paul.
