  1. Made of Norwegian ice. I wouldn't like to be lugging this to and from a gig...
  2. Tried the TB10 a few years back. Loved the tone, but too heavy for me to gig with for long unless sitting. I didn’t get to try it upright with the pin out but guessing you wouldn’t be able to stand as not long enough. Would be a great all rounder studio instrument I think.
  3. That's a beautiful venue (the theatre one :-)). The outdoor one though... I'd have to laugh that one off. I play mostly original music so I'm used to small crowds, which I don't mind if we get an occasional amazing gig.
  4. Was it the Dragonflii in Pontypool by any chance? Great little pub but we had a similar issue with attendance :-)
  5. Unless I was asked for a professional opinion (or my amateur one), I'd just say something like, well I enjoyed it. People usually just want validation. Your mate's not stupid, and he'd know how the band were doing based on the audience reaction. If someone is deluded, they're probably wouldn't take any notice anyway.
  6. Looks great, what’s it like to play without a finger rest?
  7. What’s the stick like to play? Met this amazing Dutch player in a beach bar in Portugal last year, doing a lunchtime music set, and I became a bit obsessed with them for a while. He did a amazing rendition of Roxanne and other 80s hits.
  8. Supposedly coming to Bass Direct - I usually find the tone of acoustic bass guitars way too tinny, but I think this is a very usable acoustic tone. Way way out of my budget range, but you never know.
  9. Inspirational musician... and always such an amazing double bass tone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kg_Utj4Aljc
  10. These look great, and if I was carrying an expensive bass around uninsured I think it'd be money well spent. I did use a collapsible sack trolley a couple of times when I couldn't park at a venue - getting out of multi-story carparks in Bath and Cardiff were the biggest challenges.
  11. Result - I went for the Gotoh GB350s, and even the hole for the screw lines up exactly.
  12. The US Gollihur website is a good resource for this type of thing. Then you might be able to source some locally. Exactly the he same thing happened to my Ibanez SRH500F a couple of weeks back so I ordered some GOTOH replacements from Thomann.
  13. I have a Roland arriving next week, and I plan to use it for band demos as well so hopefully the extras will be useful.
  14. Anyone had to replace these - one of the machine heads snapped on mine - I read on TalkBass that someone used Gotoh GB707s on a SR500 or Gotoh GB350 2L/2R B Bass Tuners. Any others that would fit, and be better than the stock die-cast ones? Thanks
  15. I found a couple of used ones on eBay, but I think the new version is https://www.roland.com/us/products/gomixer_pro-x/. A bit more expensive but I'm thinking about new version - as well as the IG stuff, it would be great for creating live performance promo clips for a couple of bands that I'm involved in.
  16. That's quite a story, and a great song. U2 seem to get a lot of stick these days, but in the 80s they were really revered by young people, at least in my experience.
  17. Hi @mattpbass, that looks exactly like what I need, I'm gonna look into it. I'm pretty handy with Garage Band and I have an audio interface, but as you say the stitching is a faff. Many thanks
  18. Anyone got tips about getting a decent sound when playing along to songs? I put my double bass & electric bass clips on my Instagram channel, but I record video on my iPhone with the song playing through a speaker and my bass playing through an amp, so I pick up extra fretboard and string noise (I know this is less than perfect technique causing extra noise). I've got an iMac and GarageBand, but I don't know how to get a clean digital sound through that to mix with the backing song and the video footage. Would I have to use iMovie to put the three things together? Thanks
  19. I guess it depends on your studio costs and what your budget is. If you're good with technology you can do the publishing yourself for free.
  20. I really rate CDBaby to easily & cheaply get music out onto multiple streaming sites, the website's great. I use this for promotion, not for an income stream - I'm not a commercial artist. Not tried Distrokid but I imagine these services are all pretty similar, and the more you pay the less you have to do yourself. Do you put a lot of music out?
  21. Didn't see it all first time - started watching it in a pub in Ambleside in Cumbria, then hitched back to Co Durham and caught the end at home. Those were the days... Watched bits of the replay at the weekend. Musically, I enjoyed Simple Minds, Sting, and Dire Straits with Sting on BVs - brilliant. Queen obviously. Funny to see the mic-lead minders who had to crouch at the front of the stage to stop people tripping - at one stage a bloke ran on stage and had to loop one right over Adam Clayton's head, though I don't suppose anyone now wd've minded if Bono tripped - what a palaver over giving someone in the crowd a kiss. I might give that a try at my gigs this weekend 😉
  22. I don't think you could go wrong with this bass, as long as you don't plan to jump up and down on it mid-song like Lee Rocker. These are fully carved I think, so if you want to use it for jazz & other non-slap styles as well as rockabilly, you'd have the tone you need with the right mic or pickup. I used to have a Stentor 1950, ply back n sides, which was small bodied and light, perfect for tight gigs.
  23. That's useful to know - when I tried one it was on a tripod and yes when I used arm weight to stop the strings the bass did spring back a little bit. I've seen on the US talkbass site that some users play seated with the tripod set low so they can rest the top of the neck on their shoulder to stop the neck springing back, but I wouldn't like to sit all night. I don't think the end pin stand helps either.
  24. I think you're right mate about not being intended to be replacements, but I'd probably only play one as a rehearsal replacement for my acoustic upright, or if I wanted a double bass sound but couldn't or wouldn't take a big bass to a gig. I hear that a lot of country/roots/bluegrass players in the US even get away with using NS Designs when they tour.
