Here's a link to the site: http://overwaterbasses.com/basses/ I think its new "special" created for Scott Devine and the Scotts Bass Lessons Academy
I love the look of that progress in the top left...

Seems silly not to enter really...
Never got the hang of using a pick, so I don't need anywhere to keep one.
oh me neither on bass. I've just started playing guitar again recently and i can't really use one properly on that either... damn thing keeps turning round in my hand.
I have an odd method. I write the music first. Then I hum a vocal melody along to it. At various points in the humming a word pops into my head that just fits perfectly in that space. Then I see what goes with that word. I never plan the subject matter of a song as I find that too restricting. That's why I have songs about politics, assassination, favourite films and.... radiator repairmen!
I've got to the humming a melody and a few random words part but I'm struggling to form that into a coherant set of lyrics. Maybe I've just got to force the first few songs through and learn from the experience.
No having lyrics or vocals doesn't seem to have hindered the plethora of "Post Rock" bands that have sprung up in the last 15 years.
Oh I'm not knocking instrumental music.. I just want vocals in my songs and sadly I'm utterly useless at coming up with anything worth singing about

I bought a MIM 50s strat in sea foam green last year... It looks awesome and plays OK but you can fit a pick in the neck pocket

I've been writing a few songs recently as I'm fed up of the other members in bands I've been in trying to dictate what I play, so I've decided to write and play all the other parts myself and do whatever I like with the basslines. I've got a few decent ideas down but a song isn't really a song without vocals is it? I'm happy to give it a go and I've got some ideas for melodies, when I hum or just sing random words it sounds OK but obviously I need proper lyrics... So... where on earth do I start? I literally have nothing to say I can't take examples from my own life as I'm not downtrodden or disadvantaged in any way, I have nothing to moan about... I have no animosity against the political system or any desire to change things there. I'm very happy with Mrs C so don't have any traditional lovey dovey stuff to write about. I could write about going to work and leading a normal life but I doubt that would cut it... You guys who do write lyrics where do you get inspiration from?

What strings are you guys using on your Wals? I've always used prosteels but I changed to Warwick black labels on the Wal as I needed a tapered B. I want to get as much growl as possible, any recomendations?

I recently sold some pedals etc. and they all went in a couple of days to great buyers, who paid instantly. I guess I've been lucky but I've never had a bad transaction on BC. There is an element of trust. I did feel a bit vulnerable when I transfered the money for my Wal and bascally just had to hope it turned up...
At £5K you're firmly in Fodera territory
I didn't realise they were £5K... That puts these basses in exalted company, you can get a new Wal sixer for not much more than that. For me you have to be offering something pretty special to warrent spending a couple of grand more than an uber spec ACG.

orrible stuff... basically just makes the neck and strings slimey.

Boss micro-br80..anyone use one of those?
CamdenRob replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in Recording
To be honest I hate having to figure out how new things work and did get a bit frustrated on the first day working it all out but since then its been great, i'm really pleased with it. Only down side I can think of is that I once tried the live record function at a full band rehearsal and even with the gain set as low as possible (1 out of 100) the internal mic still clipped like hell... having said that the built in mic really isn't that bad for acoustic guitar etc. oh actually there is another downside... well just annoying really. For some bizzare reason when you connect an instrument it defualts to running through a "blues crunch" FX preset. Which isnt really a problem as you just turn it off but still.... why have it on as a default? -
I still think a BC bash must be the ideal place to try out gear... no pressure to buy and first hand experience from current owners. Must get myself along to one.

If there was a shop combining Wunjos customer service with the gallery / bass directs stock I would be a regular.

Boss micro-br80..anyone use one of those?
CamdenRob replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in Recording
I have one I use it for everything, it's tiny, super easy to use and runs on 2 AA batteries. It also has some surprisingly usable presets for guitar sounds etc. It's plug and go really. -
If I was a mod I'd want a large USB enabled red banning button which played "The Power" by Snap! everytime I pressed it...
Sometimes people who are neither tossers not morons make bad judgement calls, and behave (inadvertently) in a manner that can be interpreted as sexist or racist.
Yes sorry, after reading that back it does look accusatory. I can assure you it was a general comment and definitely not aimed as anyone in this thread. and I make bad judegment calls all the time... my last post is possibly a prime example.
If it's vacuum-cleaning instruments the OP is interested in, then a hoovering factory may be more appropriate.
My favourity example of this spelling mistake comes from my Mum, who is a primary school teacher. Appanentely she once received an essay on tudors of which the last line read "Elizabeth the 1st found it difficult to concentrate during the final years of her reign due to the ghost of Mary Queen of Scotts hoovering in the background."
For the final 7 years of my teaching career I taught in a girl's school, and they would tell me about the harassment that they would get from men..... and it made me ashamed for my sex!
I'm not ashamed of being a man... being a tosser makes someone sexist not being a man. Same as being white doesnt make you a racist... being a moron does.
For those us recovering from GAS, a very good thing!
You never truly recover.... I'm more than happy with my gear at the moment but I'm aware that I'm just in remission... GAS will strike again! It always finds a way in...
Williamscot Basses aim (and so far succeed) to being the best and bespoke hand made basses
I saw these at the bass show, didn't get a chance to try one out but they looked good, saw a guy trying one that looked a little like a Marleaux consat which was particularly tasty. As for being the best, well thats a tall order with established UK builders like Wal, Status, Overwater etc... not to mention more esoteric designs by manufacturers like Gus and smaller boutique builders like ACG, Eve, Anaconda etc. gaining more widespread recognition. Times are good for UK bass building but I would expect it's getting harder to stand out in the crowd. Good luck to them though
I went there once, but it appeared closed, which was a shame. Since then I found you had to knock or ring or something to be let in, but I would never do that, so I guess it isn't for me.
Yes they have a very annoying buzzer system... totally puts me off going in for a casual look around. Guess it's probably something to do with their insurance though so they probably don't have much choice. Good selection of gear once your in though

Eurovision entry - under achieving as an art form
It would have a lot more chance of winning if it were sung by Charlotte Church and Robbie Williams..
I would find it very entertaining to watch Robbie Williams go through the whole eurovision thing. His unshakeable belief that he would win would dovetail comically with coming near the bottom of the table... I'd love to see the camera keep focusing in on his face when each vote was announced unable to believe why he wasn't winning. I reckon we'd get a free strop thrown in for good measure too. -
Slightly different I know but I just mentioned in another thread that I've been thinking about having some drum lessons... not to become a drummer but because I reckon that would help with my understanding of bass playing and music in general.
Well, get it 'finished' (is it ever finished..? ) and we'll flood you with tips..
That would be helpful as I really am clueless with drums... Been thinking I might go for a couple of lessons just to grasp the basics, not that I'm looking to be a drummer but I think it would help me with my bass playing.
Be careful what you wish for..! PM me a style, a bpm, a bar chart..? See just how bad things can get..!
I would be eternally grateful for any assistance... Not sure I have the tune in any usable format unfortunately to be able to record a drum track, I guess I could send the whole thing as an MP3 or something, I did record it over a click. Anyway this all sounds like a lot of effort on your part and I wouldn't want to impose I would however appreciate some tips on where I'm going wrong If I do manage to get it finished for the deadline.
