Geeez, those late night TV shows gigs are awesome. Someone told me all the core cats on David Letterman could retire comfortably if they want to. Blue
What are core cats?

Maybe, but i wouldn`t want to call basschatters names because a stand has turned them into a sourpuss
Really? So he went to the gig without knowing who Robin Trower was? Or knew of him and heard his music but thought that somehow on the night RT would change the way he played? Some people just amaze me at times. I trust that he was your 'last tutor' because he is now a multi million dollar seller/songwriter. good luck to him if he is. This is not about your post, but the tutors comment.
I believe he knew who he was, and heard is music. He is no multi millionaire from music either. He also wasn`t very complimentary about Eric Clapton. He said he is a good entertainer, but not a good guitarist, who just had some lucky breaks playing with far better players than himself. He was more into Al Di Meola and that type i think. Yes he is also my ex tutor. Anyway, the story reminded me of how musicians may notice things that most people wouldn`t care about.
Didn't top of the pops use a led zep tune or am I imagining things?
that was the CCS version http://youtu.be/sjRqKVI9j5c

This thread reminds me of my last tutor. He went to watch Robin Trower , and he said he walked out because he was awful and just played scales. He noticed because he is a classically trained guitarist. I would imagine the rest didn`t even know what he was playing, or cared. Probably the same for music stands. The punters would never know that the stand was there, or if they did, wouldn`t know it was not normal. Only musicians would notice and care about it.
-
I really don`t think anyone in a pub would care if there is a music stand or not. I am more interested in listening, dancing if need be to notice what is on the stage.I never took any notice of what bass was being played until i started learning, and now look as a passing interest, to see if it is an unusual one. After, i might ask what they are playing after the gig has finished. I think people worry to much about how much the average punter really cares as long as the tunes are good and all had a good time. I would say it is more unprofessional forgetting lyrics than having a stand
I tried out a bass last year the LBGS and a couple of the people on the stand were amazed at me playing a UK Subs bassline on it, and not just hammering/slapping away at it like everyone else. They probably thought I was a bit of a caveman.
I hope it was Warhead

There are no sellouts, just bands wanting to make the most of an opportunity. Were Nirvana sellouts because Nevermind sounded nothing like Bleach, and appealed to a broader audience? Not in my book. Limp Bizkit were called sellouts, because they had a record that lots of people liked. I think the only people who call bands sellouts, have never been in a position to either change, because they are limited talent wise, never given the chance, or older fans not wanting to share the exclusivity of a band that are only popular to a few people.

I will be going next year. I went this year. I found it no worse than the Basschat get together in Addlestone last year. There was loads of slapping and people trying to outdo each other with noise there, so perhaps it is quite hard to stop the noise as no one did anything about it . I did expect it as it is a bass show, so it didn`t bother me. I really enjoyed both events despite the noise. While £20 is a bit of cash, there isn`t much you can do for that money these days, so it isn`t too bad. I have no plans to buy anything, but it is nice to see all the gear.
They've been using Kashmir on X-factor since the start, about 10 years ago IIRC. I remember when Queen songs were considered sacred, but somewhere along the line they sold out big time. I hope Zep don't do the same.
What does selling out really mean? Is it that people want to keep bands a secret so they have the cool factor of being in the know? I guess bands want to reach new audiences, so that is why they do it.

Good band. The members from Small Faces that went on to become the Faces were lucky. They worked with 2 phenomenal singers. I prefererred Steve Marriots voice over Rod Stewerts, but only my opinion of course. It is quite interesting to follow the bands from the 60`s. The Small Faces bought us Humble Pie, who gave us Pete Frampton. Needless to say about Rod Stewert and Ronnie Wood from the Faces.
My new Warwick custom shop Infinity buckeye burl that I have bought off of a guy in the US arrived today. I love it. Going off for a service tonight (as hasn't been played in a while and is a bit dirty and in need of a good setup) but will post more pics when it is back and in working order.
Wow. That is a seriously nice looking bass. I would love to own that

Would you be happy for Daltrey to take the stage
Indeed, but a now deleted post (grangur?) opined about "what the happy couple thought of this". I happened to know and posted to this effect. I then postulated about how I would feel about this event should it occur to me. All relevant and on-topic given context at the time
Is it just the case that it is Roger Daltrey that you would object to, or would you draw the line at any famous singer? Not a big fan of Tom Jones, but i reckon Delilah, or some such singalong song, would be superb, if he was to happen to take the stage for a one off. -

Personally, i would`ve loved it if hew was at my wedding singing a song, but i am a fan. I don`t like stuff like Olly Murs, but i would let him sing a song. It is those things that make the wedding different to the norm. Also if i was in the band, i would be happy to have someone famous sing a number. -
It seems that Roger Daltrey was staying at a hotel where a wedding was taking place, and took the stage with the wedding band. Would you be happy , if he took the stage when you were playing. http://www.itv.com/news/2014-12-01/rock-legend-roger-daltrey-surprises-newlyweds-with-impromptu-performance-at-their-reception/
"There are quite a few covers I personally like, or prefer to the original artist recording, however that does not make them better. The cover is different and we may personally like it more than the original but that's where it ends." Blue
That is true. But is there a cover version , given a choice, that would be on your turntable instead of the original? That is the question
thanks, but then I won't stand corrected. eva still is better:
Eva Cassidy is up against some stiff opposition to be the best version. Patricia Routledge apparently sang a version. I would love to hear that. Unfortunatly i couldnt find it on Youtube
well, since you seem to know it, please enlighten me.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autumn_Leaves_%28song%29
Totally agree. I have loathed the absolute Cocker-up of that song since the day it was released. Awful.
But Joe Cockers version was the theme tune to The Wonder Years, so it has to be better Obviously it is all subjective. A lot of covers, some people wouldn`t even know was a cover. I prefer Janis Joplin singing Ball and Chain, but some people would say Big Mama Thorntons is better.

I hope this chart will be useful Major ----------------------------------- Minor C <--------------------------------------> Am G <--------- 1#----------------------> Em D <----------- 2#`s --------------------> Bm A <---------- 3#`s--------------------> F#m E <-------------4#`s ------------------> C#m B <------------- 5#`s ------------------> G#m F# <------------6#`s ------------------> D#m C# <------------7#`s ----------------> A#m F <------------ 1b -------------------> Dm Bb <----------- 2b`s ------------------> Gm Eb <----------- 3b`s ------------------> Cm Ab <----------- 4b`s ------------------> Fm Db <----------- 5b`s ------------------> Bbm Gb <------------6b`s ------------------> Ebm Cb <----------- 7b`s -------------------> Abm Order of sharps --------------------------------Order of Flats F#, C# ,G# ,D#, A#, E#, B# ------------------------Bb, Eb, Ab, Db, Gb, Cb,Fb So if you use tha chart. Key of C Major you will see has no Sharps, so they are all natural notes.Same with Key of Am, has no sharps, only Natural notes. If you take E Major, you will see it has 4 sharps, which if you look at the order of sharps, you will see that it will always be F#, C# , G#, D#, The next 3 notes will all be natural A, E, B. If you look across the chart from E Major, you will see C#M will have 4 sharps. So look at the Order of Sharps, and you will see the first four notes will be the same as E major. The same for flats. So key of natural F Major has 1 flat, which will be Bb, and the same for Dm. That is if you are playing Major scale, and Natural minor. Hope that is easy to understand. Here is hoping i haven`t made a mistake. I am no teacher, so i am not the best at explaining things
