That has got a good groove going on
-
That is interesting. What was the thought behind it, if you don`t mind me asking? It sounds good, in that it works, It needs a video to really bring it to life, i think
-
I liked your Thunderbird demo video. They still look like a plank of wood to me, but they do sound good.
-
Ahh, thanks. I realise you aren`t going to get the bass that Geddy would use, unless you have loads of cash, but i would have thought that the bass would be as close as possible. Seems pointless having a signature, if it doesn`t match the sound.
I had to go find it on YouTube as I'd never heard of it. As far as bass lines go, it's pretty much buried behind everything else. I reckon you could cut it down, lock in with the drummer, and get away with it. The track also highlights something else, the guitar is doing only a fraction of the work - which is possibly why it sounds 'easy' to the guitarist, they're judging the difficulty of their part and nobody elses.
I had to look it up as i had never heard of it either. Some pretty good bass covers on youtube
My band is adding to our repertoire again and although I'm slightly peevish - why does it always seem that what I want to play isn't 'quite right' or 'a bit lame' or... well yeah. I'm not that attached, though, so I'm happy to have a go at whatever numbers they want to play, but lately they seem to be picking numbers that are really beyond my playing ability - just too damned fast etc. I'm doing my best, but bass is a late discovery for me. Anyone else had that? Do I suggest they get a better bassist?
Perhaps they have every confidence that you will be able to play it. Nothing like testing yourself. I am still very much a beginner, and the feeling i get when i get it right is what keeps me practising. Incidentally, what numbers are they trying to get you to learn. Perhaps if you name a couple of songs, someone may be able to help you break it down. I wouldn`t have a clue though
-
Why do people buy signature basses and change the bridge and pickups? I thought the whole point was you got the same bass. Does it devalue it if you change bits?
I would love to see Colin Hodgkinson, now currently with Ten Years After,
Leo Lyons would also be good
-
ahh, that would make it seem easier to count.thanks for that
-
When playing to a metronome, do you count the first beat. So click 1, click 2, click 3, click 4. Or is it click, Click 1, click 2 , click 3, click 4 ?

James Jamerson Analysed - Bernadette by the Four Tops
timmo replied to rw3cja's topic in Theory and Technique
Didn't she also claim to play on "I Was Made to Love Her" (unmistakably Jamerson) ? I think I read somewhere that others related to the song confirmed it was Jamerson... Edit: Here's the link about it (scroll down to Who Played Bass on Stevie Wonder's "I Was Made To Love Her"?).
I guess when you have played on as many songs as she has, the memory may get sketchy. I don`t see why she would tell an outright lie to try to get credit, as she hardly needs needs the recognition -
If i can be candid, the video was very boring. Enjoyed the song though

Very good -
I hate it when i buy something, and the directions have the word color. Fine if i bought it in America. If you import something to the UK, then use the proper spelling. Another hate of mine is shipping. What happened to post and packing. The item comes via a van, not a ship. Oh, and you go to a till to pay for something, and the assisstant asks if you found everything you need. If i never, i would have asked the floor assisstant in Pets At Home long before i went to the till

All done. I asked for Tim Commerford to be there next year, and Clover to be there, because i would like to see some of their stuff. I asked for the food to be cheaper as i ended up in Tesco over the road. The dates for next year are confirmed, so i am really looking forward to it
Really love some of his records, live was dull I'm afraid. Robert Cray was absolutely riveting though.
I liked Bonamassa when i saw him live. Can`t comment on Robert Cray though. Never seen him
-
Thanks Uncle As usual, i learn something new.
-
I see many comments about Joe Bonamassa being uninspiring and just a generic blues showman with no real talent. It shows that you can`t please people.I think he is great. I know he is no Gary Moore, Alvin Lee, etc, etc, but so what, it doesn`t matter as those two are sadly no longer with us. It is good to have someone still out there selling big venues out. That is the problem with blues, everyone wants to compare everyone. Blue, glad Chantel replied to you. I have only seen her once, and she seems real down to earth.
-
Chantel Mcgregor has a reasonably big tour of the UK. She is good in my opinion. She isn`t in here 30`s yet, and been doing blues for a few years. There are probably loads more i don`t know about.
Do away with forum aliases and make avatar a photo I your face and a lot of the animosity (if there is that much) would disappear overnight.
I agree with that.

This is a better thread. It is nice to see some positivity, I personally would never buy one, but it is nice to see people happy with their instrument. There are no real reasons , apart from price to stop me buying one. I guess i should really try one to see .Perhaps i will have to persue that avenue.
Asking questions educates us and, once you know the answer, you can help someone else out with their question in turn. I'm not a betting man, but I'd happily wager that you know far more about bass 'stuff' today than you did when you joined two years ago.
I probably know a lot more than i actually realise, just no confidence on giving advice. I know i will never make the mistake of taking a music stand to a gig, and playing a Rickenbacker. When i am famous, i know the rider will contain a selection of cheeses, Kettle Chips, and Abbey Crunch. I guess there isn`t a lot more i need to know.

As much as i like a bit of Off Topic, there are people on this thread innocently saying how people get angry for no reason at all. Some of these are the one who put up antagonistc posts in the first place.I have taken the bait on one or two occassions. As for the best posters, personally i believe they are the ones on the technical advice, and helping people out with issues they have. I am a beginner, so i rarely post in technical, only questions. Some maybe a bit tiresome for some, but i always get help, and i have also got quite a bit of help via PM, which i am grateful. I am getting better at playing, and theory, so perhaps i will be able to be a better poster in the help front in the ffuture. I really only joined for the technical aspects, and too make me a better player. So far, this site is fullfilling that goal for me. The other topics are just a bonus. Another bonus is actually meeting some of you at shows. I will try to get to more of these in the future.

Something else I have learned today. Now I see the point of capos. Thanks for that
