  1. What’s wrong with investing in military AI research?
  2. I don’t know that I’d like to own a bass so clearly linked with someone else, someone I never met or knowingly listened to. It wouldn’t feel like mine (investment argument aside of course)

Basschat was officially born at Henry Box School on Church Green. I believe there’s a blue plaque now 😂

It’s a lovely town - I always like going back and complaining about how it’s changed!

    EHX Qtron Nano

Absolutely - but not my point, never mind just a joke
  6. As the article earlier shows, a bad shim and oversight bolts can destroy a neck. I doubt many are done ‘properly’

Oh god here we go!! The famous audience who we should run all purchases past first 😂

That’s the problem! My parents live in Witney where they make police helmets using vacuum forming so maybe they’d let you use their machine. Some schools have them too (my secondary did).

I’d get a transparent acrylic cover vacuum formed over the finished board 😂
  10. Lovely bass. The SB shape is so neat, it’s a really nice evolution of the fender design. Looks great in black. Enjoy 😊
  11. I’ve had a triple case for my basses for ages - it’s great and really easy to wheel around, even carry short distances! Mostly it’s used as a nice compact stand for three basses at home. I’ve started taking one bass at a time to practice but my gig bags are too bulky and I don’t need to ‘wear’ them very often. My hard cases are original vintage ones that came with basses and have broken latches. Also they’re a bit bulky. I decided a single Scott Dixon style case should be pretty neat - they’re light, super sturdy and they look nice. They’re very expensive though and it looks like they only do rectangular ones now. I did a check on eBay and reverb but didn’t find anything. Whilst looking on gumtree for bike things I saw there was a coffin shaped Dixon case just down the road!! Couldn’t believe it. Called the seller (double bass player with a nice Hamer P bass and a Bacchus P which is for sale (in Beverly, Yorks) and picked it up! Couldn’t believe my luck!
  12. Flats can sound really bright, just a different sort of timbre. On a ray you get a nice sound, with some rich detail. Lots of the stingrays you hear in 70s funk are on flats.
  13. Always loved the look of the SR5. That’s a beaut.
  14. Least I’m not the only one 😂
  15. Yeah I think so, I remember seeing someone else doing it

  17. You could probably install the old fashioned mutes on that bridge which would look pretty cool
  18. I prefer to file down the groove in the saddle normally. I like an action so low that often it’s too high on the G with the saddle on the floor (especially on neck thru basses with ‘high mass’ bridges). Shims aren’t an option on those and with bolt on basses I don’t like the look of the fretboard not being parallel with the body along the section where it’s level with the body. On modern basses saddles are easy to replace and on a vintage one I buy new saddles to file. Although 99% of the time it’s an invisible mod. Also it’s more accurate as you can file slightly more than you need using abrasive cord and then use the saddles to perfect the action.
  19. 1984 was the beginning of the Ernie Ball era. Not much changed initially. Everything you need to know is here http://www.musicmanbass.global
  20. Absolutely - one of my fave rays was an OLP with a Status neck, it sounded amazing but I'm not really a 5 string player. However if you have the money and buy a pre EB ray you could probably play it and sell it years later for the same or more, making the bass free!! (That's my philosophy anyway)
  21. If you can swing it I'd advice getting an older one (pre EB), simply because they retain their value really well. Frankly they sound pretty consistent, much more so than their Fender ancestors, but you know what people are like! They were also less confusing in those days. Wasn't everything?

  23. Boss WAZA-Air Bass is the best thing out there at the moment if budget is of no concern
  24. Hi Amber, what’s your budget?
