Shame they don't make them like that anymore!
Here's Christophe Godin (amazing player and really funny bloke) with his 'Metal cartoon' guitar:
2.
Ped don't add a religious edge to this sensitive thread please!
haha I saw that coming!
3. Stupid I know but if I was into Ricks I would pay £90 for this, just to have the kit, as it were. Probably not going to see one again and it's good to have the original equipment, I guess. I paid quite a bit for a proper original case for one of my basses... a Thomman case would have done the job just as well - arguably better, but it's not quite the same, is it?? ped
4. I recently had some minor electronics 'tidying up' done by the Oxford Guitar Gallery - they were superb, took the bass in a day before and i had it back within a couple of days. They booked me in about two weeks in advance. Tell 'em ped sent ya!!
Just wondering why you have the 15 above the 4X10? Nice MM
Probably because it's lighter, though I could be wrong! ped
7.
unfortunatly i only own the one on the left:(
Would be cool if the one with the white scratchplate had a black pickup!! ped
8.
Out of interest as it hasn't been covered: Whats the policy on ballpark FS thread? Example: Looking for around the £1000 mark (or trade for a nice bass and cash adjustment)
Think that's OK - as long as there is a rough area!
9.
I'm sure Wateroftyne's comment had tongue firmly in cheek but Ped, with a retort like that within 7 minutes - are you a top class stand up in your spare time (after bass playing and photography)?
No I feel pressured to come up with a witty answer to this one, too. You're banned
10. Gotta be Basstec humbuckers and a Marleaux 3 band EQ, love the high shelving at 8khz and it's just very 'musical' sounding. Crispy and tight. ped

Knobs!

Oh really?? Which performance? This is when I used to have a Marleaux... the knobs were the same as described but I lost one somehow (still don't know how) and they turned out to be identical to the ones on my Alesis Oxygen-8 keyboard but I didn't realise until after I had ordered one from somewhere at no doubt great expense... ped

Knobs!

Ack I used to have a link to them because I bought some for my Marleaux. Recently I formatted my computer and lost everything, so that's not much use, is it? I'll have a look tonight and see if I can find them again ped
13. What sort of sounds are you after, by the way? I plug my bass into a Vbass unit - 90% of the time it is completely bypassed and I'm using the magnetic pickups, but its ready to switch in if I need the synths or other bass sounds. It isn't technically MIDI because there's no pitch conversion or anything, so no latency either. I did try it plugged into a friends MIDI unit and it was fun playing piano and drums but there was a tiny bit of latency which would annoy me. Not sure how one would get around that, or if it's possible. Is a pitch-cv converter something that takes a standard bass signal and converts it to MIDI? I would have thought that would be pretty inaccurate and rather slow? Another option instead of mounting the GK pickup (which may/may not fit on your bass depending on it's pickup arrangement - you'll notice it JUST fits on mine) is using piezo saddle elements to produce the signal for the GK electronics. I haven't tried this approach though. ped
14. Hi mate Aye, since that pic on the site I have installed the GK stuff internally. Was sat at home with a mallet and chisel and thought I would just go for it. Went very well in the end!! Here is a pic of the bass now, much neater and now it fits in its original case again! The standard jack and the 13 pin out are on the side.
15. To be honest with a synth I think if you can go polyphonic you won't look back. It makes such a difference to synth lines, it makes them so much easier to play and there is no tracking error or delay. You don't necessarily need an unsightly GK pickup on the bass - you can install the whole kit internally, like I have, and it's extremely neat! ped (synth enthusiast)

17. Lol awesome riff. I'm going to try to learn it, least of all for a 'ride' in a hummer!
18. Thanks for the comments guys :0) Just mucking around really I think reverb can easily muddy the sound if it is used across the whole frequency range - but if you have the ability on your 'verb to choose a band to apply the effect, you can get very tight bass with a subtle ambience that Urb mentioned. There are so many types and ways of controlling reverb (the Vbass has loads of options such as type, predelay, crossover, mix, tone etc etc) it can be hard to find what works, but when used carefully I think it really helps! ped
19. Must have taken him 5 mins to come up with that!! Naah I'm joking, but I do prefer the look of the normal SR5. I think the new pointy shaped bass is quite nice in the right colour combo though. Not sure I would buy one (well, I wouldn't) but it's a bit different, at least. ped
20. I always have a touch of reverb - it really 'lifts' the sound out of the mix a bit I find. Only really subtle, and only above 3K Here is a sample which shows how subtle it is! 21. Hi Darryll nice to see you! That Victor acoustic looks the biz... and a good price ped
22. I think the Vbass could cop that sound -in fact one of the presets sounds similar. Unfortunately that will requite a bit of woodwork or some rather heavy modification to work on your lovely little bass! ped
23.
You also now have to specify how much you want for it in your post http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry691868
True. Price please or it'll have to go! ped
24. Excellent - and good for you setting one up. I'll be there depending on date and location (hopefully West London!!) with my usual stuff ped
