  1. Yeah I’m going to this! Very excited for it although i was really looking forward to seeing Somali Yacht Club but understandably they had to pull out.
  2. Decided to go for a bigger pedalboard as i was struggling to fit it all onto a metro 16. It means i can now chuck some modulation onto the board again, currently popped my old BF-2 on. Also looking at getting a Earthquaker Grand Orbiter. I reckon i can squeeze a couple more on this board I did find that my wah has a broken jack socket so is making the board hum. i'll have to get round to fixing that. Chain is Bass > Polytune > Wilson mini freaker wah > DIY The druid (dod 250 clone with analogman Ge diode mod) > DIY The Architect (Megalith clone) > Damnation Audio Bloop with Boss DS-1 in the loop) > Boss BF-2 > Behringer NR300 (not being used but just in case with lots of high gain pedals) All powered by a Cioks DC5
  3. For both c standard and c# I use dr lo rider light 5 string set at the moment. 120 on the thickest string. Seems to work for me well enough. Not too much flab but not super tight. Obviously throw away the top skinny string!
  4. Stoner/doom and fuzz, my favourite! It’s always a difficult topic of which fuzz should to pick. Biggest problem is what works for one person doesn’t for someone else. All basses, amps and people sound different when combined. id be inclined to find a “strain” of pedal you like and then fall down the rabbit hole of who makes what. Such as if you like a big muff tone, there thousands of muff based pedals with different perks. (Grand tarkin, musket etc) i am a fan of blending in a bit of clean but it’s not always necessary. I’m quite fond of the mountainking megalith at the moment with a blend. I’d also probably be looking at damnation audio MBD-2. from experience fuzzes and actives sometimes don’t work too well however Zvex mastotron works quite well with rolling off the volume before it get into the fuzz section. When used to use a stingray I ran a tube screamer into a Russian big muff and found the combo of the two worked very well. IIRC on the first RATM album Tim used a guvnor mk1 to get his tone.
  5. Yeah they are my own builds, the dod clone has a few mods to it.
  6. Thanks man. It won’t be much of a difference just a small amount of clean low end added to the mix.
  7. Yeah I tried it both ways and so far rubbing everything through it is sounding great to me. Nice to keep the lows even the wah works well with it.
  8. new pedal day today. Damnation audio blooper so had a re jig of the board. Pretty happy with it now but I’m sure I’ll move bits around Over the next few weeks. And yes I have my tuning written on my tuner, I once had a brain fart at a gig and couldn’t remember what it should be in. Never again. Bit of masking tape so I can change it depending. chain is bass > blooper > modded dod 250 clone > megalith clone > Wilson freaker wah > noisegate > tuner > amp
  9. My band Black Atlas played a local weekend festival called Balstock. wonderful gig in a small pub. Had the privilege of playing just before @Salt on your Bass? Absolutely wonderful sound he had going on, and he let me borrow his cab(s) (same as what I use which was brill, I didn’t have to bring mine)
  10. Had a fun gig last night playing at Club 85 in Hitchin. Always a fun place to play with good sound and great people. Little bit of the end of a song someone recorded. IMG_6680.MP4
  11. It has always depended on a mixture of what type of music i am playing. I went straight into the amp when I used to play in an Backing band for a guy who played Americana . Although i probably had a pedal tuner in there somewhere. Playing in my main band which is a stoner/grunge band i'm an always on medium distortion tone with the option of kicking on a fuzz. experiment, if it sounds good, it is good!
  12. I’ve used DR lo-rider .50 - 110 in D standard and they worked well. Maybe just upping the gauge if your happy with the strings?
  13. It was great meeting you yesterday. They are great instruments and I hope it serves you well! I do find it quite remarkable the tones that can be coaxed from these basses especially with backing off the pickups.
  14. I played at Bloodstock yesterday with Black Atlas. It was amazing. The sound quality on stage, the professionalism of the techs and the appreciation of the crowd was all excellent. We played well and I’ve never had such a buzz after playing.
  15. It was our/my first gig back, so first time playing out in 18 months last night. We played a warm up gig in a pub before we play bloodstock at the weekend. I am so glad we did. The first half of the set I felt quite nervous (few little fluffs and tempo of the first song was ridiculously quick) second half felt back to normal. really enjoyed it and put to bed the pandemic creeping question of “do I really like doing this”. I even enjoyed the challenge of not hearing much on “stage” and having terrible monitors ha!
  16. If I hadn’t just settled on my current board I would be all over this! Good luck with the sale Mr Salt.
  17. Still for sale! if this doesn't sell soon i might withdraw it and keep it!
  18. It's just been announced that my band Black Atlas will be playing Bloodstock this year on the new blood stage! I can't wait!

  19. I started using a Precision, they seem to just work and be suitable for everything. I still like taking other basses out but i know the P bass tone works for me.
  20. I owned one for about eight years, I couldn't fault it at all, best bass i owned at the time by i country mile, but it was never the bass i picked up first. I could never get the sound i wanted out of it and it took me years to work that out and sell it. I changed the preamp from a 3 band to a 2 band and that did help a lot but it still never got where i wanted to be.
  21. according to the G&L Website: NECK WIDTH AT NUT: 1 1/2" NECK RADIUS: 12" NECK PROFILE: medium C I'd say it's closer to a jazz neck than a precision neck but i haven't played a precision neck in years.
  22. With bathroom scales it’s weighing in at approx 3.85kg or 8.5lbs.
  23. I would recommend Newtone as well. I used to use Kallium but switched to Newtones as easier to get hold of and a better price. I found they sound great and will help you with gauges if needed. In the past i have used light 5 string sets and instead of throwing the E string throw the G string. Link: i have used these from Rotosound.
