1.
Footnote: the sudden death of my elder brother has just come through, so I'll be spending a bit more time in the next couple of weeks off line, with family affairs. Luckily, I'd chosen the picture beforehand; I'm glad now that I chose a cheery one.
I'm sorry to hear that. My thoughts are with you and your family.
 2.
This thread only goes to highlight something I've come to realise myself after trying out quite a few filters over the years (not as many as some here!). Filters are a VERY personal thing, more heavily reliant on the person playing them (and their equipment and setup) than pretty much any other effect. What works best for one person may be a steaming pile of poo for the next person!!!
I think you've hit the nail on the head there.
 3.
Jobs for life in the public sector stopped a long time ago. I know that from experience as I was one of many that was made redundant.
It's a myth that really gets my goat and shows reap ignorance of current reality. As you say, maybe 20 years ago it may have had some validity but definitely not now.
 4.
I'd you can afford it and don't mind having a massive pedal get the Lovetone Meatball in the classifieds, or go for a clone of it (Robot Factory Meatwad, 3Leaf Groove Regulator). Regarding the Manta, I've found the envelope follower really difficult to dial in. I mean *really* difficult. Like, I never got it dialed in, ever! Mine's on a shelf in my dining room at the moment.
Funny how different people have different experiences! I've found the Manta to be by far the easiest filter I've owned to dial in and control. I've owned a Qtron, QBalls, 3leaf Groove Regulator (probably my 2nd favourite), DOD FX25, MX87 Envelope Filter and finally the Manta.
 5.
OK... It's 28 days until the end of February... I've got a DAW I don't know how to use, a midi controller I'm not sure about, an effects unit they say can be used as an audio interface, no mic, no keyboard skills, no time, no ideas... and I'm wearing sunglasses... Hit it!
Good man!
 6. About an hour after this poll opened 3 people had voted and I had received 3 votes. I promptly handed in my resignation to my boss in anticipation of the fame and fortune that undoubtedly comes with winning this competition. Now that 8 more people have voted and I've not received a single other vote I've had to come crawling back to my boss and beg for my job back - that wasn't pleasant!
 7. I just want to echo the other guys and say thanks for taking the time to do this! ☺
 8. Haha kind of! It means 'quoted for truth'
 9. I was so sad to hear this. Genius is such an overused word but David Bowie was a musical genius in every sense of the word. I've never heard a bad word said about him as a person either. The world is a sadder place without him.
 10.
Lovely piece of music. Nice themes and motives and builds well with the change of Instruments and arrangement.
QFT I love how it builds throughout the piece.
 11.
That's a great tune, Rikki, very poppy in a good way.
Thanks! :-)
 12.
That was almost genius. If you polished it up a bit that could go straight into the charts. I really enjoyed it. Well done.
Thanks! I'm just glad someone, somewhere actually liked it! :-) I look forward to hearing what you come up with - I enjoyed your entry last month.
 13. Well done on biting the bullet and posting your song. I did my first one last month and although I wasn't really happy with it but I'm glad I did posted it and put it out there. My song this week is a simple song about being stuck in on a rainy day. Sorry for the lyrics (which are VERY lighthearted in nature) and singing (which I've covered in effects to try and disguise my innate inability to sing). Not really my normal style - but thought I'd try something different. https://soundcloud.com/rikki-boyes/rainy-day
 14. Yes, please It's good of you to do this.
 15. Congratulations alibabu and bleat - worthy winners!
 16. Thanks for taking the time to listen and make such a thoughtful critique. It very useful to hear someone else's thoughts - I was worried I mixed the bass too loud (shows what I know!). I'm very new to this recording lark so it's a big learning curve so trying to get musical ideas to actually sound somewhat listenable. It's a lot of fun though. I've got a lot to learn! :-) Merry Christmas.
 17. Just a quick update. The Strat arrived this morning - I can't find anything wrong with it. Electrics all work, as does the truss rod. Cosmetically it seems fine. I'm quite impressed it arrived within 3 days of ordering too!
 18.
Tell us about it. That's the point at which we all post our 'finished product'.
Haha that's very true with me!
