1. Hi I've finally found some time to have another go at this one. The middle 8 is completely different and there are several changes to the last third. Drums are mixed a bit higher too. Most of the changes are from 1.50 onwards in case you don't want to listen to the entire thing! :-) Listen to Dreamers by Rikki Boyes #np on #SoundCloud https://soundcloud.com/rikki-boyes/dreamers
2. Hi I liked it overall - nice playing. It's a personal things but I didn't much care for the tone of the lead bass (that's just me though!)
3. I'm by no means a jazz expert but I really enjoyed all three tracks. I must admit the drummer stood out to me as well - not flashy playing but perfect playing for the song.
4.
Nicely 'layered' build-up; I agree that the drums could be a bit more present, but not too brash just the same. I'd put a bit more 'busyness' in the hi-hat, though, to give a bit more 'pace' and 'lift' underneath (disclaimer: I'm a drummer...). You lost me in the 'middle-eight', I'm afraid; I thought it went too far off track, for no useful purpose, and I would have liked to have felt a build-up of pressure towards the end, to maintain interest. Neat, clean production, in the 'Popcorn' category. No, I wouldn't buy it, and I'd switch it off on the radio, but I'm far from the target audience for the genre. The better it is for this style, the less I'd like it, so take that as a compliment, please..! In general, good work, but reservations on the 'middle-eight'. Well done; post more, please..?
Funnily enough this isn't a a style of music I listen too much either (I do think Daft Punk are great though). When I write it's usually rock/funk/blues and the occasional ballad. The main reason I've posted this here is that it's a departure for me, plus it's the first time I've actually made an effort to mix a song with individual eqs/comps on each track. I agree with virtually everything you say. The song is still a work in progress at the moment and the drums definitely could do with more intricaty. The middle eight does seem to come out of nowhere. I've actually already made some changes to that. I was also thinking that the last section could use something to bring the song to a climax, maybe a synth melody and a few more dynamics? Thanks for the feedback - it really is appreciated!
5. Thanks for your those comments Bassbus. I'd never used arpeggiators before - they are ALOT of fun! Having listened to the song back I see what your saying, Tom. I've kind of mixed the drums a bit to far back for this genre. The bass drum definitely could do with more volume. If anyone has any more comments I'd really appreciate it. I'm still not sure how well the middle 8 section fits in?
6. Hi This is my attempt at Daft Punkish song. I recently got a midi keyboard and have probably got a bit carried away! Here's the 'updated version' https://soundcloud.com/rikki-boyes/dreamers I'd love to hear some constructive criticism. Thanks
7. Thanks for the replies, I'll check out your suggestions and see if it makes a difference I don't want to throw away my money for no good reason
8. Oops - mods please close this duplicate thread
9. Hi I've just started home recording on Reaper using my Zoom B3 to connect my instruments to the laptop via USB. This is all working fine, however when I compared the recording to one's I'd made on a little multi recorder I noticed the bass and guitar sounds are a lot 'duller' on Reaper. Is the issue the Zoom B3 and would buying a audio interface (I was thinking Focusrite Solo, maybe?) sort this out? Thanks

12. Bought a Wooly Mammoth off Rob. Excellent seller - clear and quick communications, and the pedal arrived promptly and well packaged! Deal with confidence.
13.
Nothing flashy or fast impresses me. Groove, timing and soul does. There are guys that can lay down a 1-4-5 blues progression done right that gets my interest before Sir Duke. Blue
Yes but the question was for something that will impress NON musicians and, rightly or wrongly, fast/flashy is what they will see as impressive.
14. Bought pedal from Ordep - friendly, clear communication and pedal arrived very quickly exactly as described. Deal with confidence! :-)
15. Haha no problem mate. I thought someone here would grab it. Even if you don't like it you could probably sell it on 2nd without making a loss! It looks as though the price has gone back up to £120 now - you must've got the last one!

Octaver
The Chord OC-50 (or is it OC-80... can't remember) is a great wee octave. It's a boss octave clone I believe, but has an extra "drive" switch (turns off the -2 octave) which sounds quite synthy. Mine tracked really well down to a sustained F# which surprised me - most give up at A in my experience! Sold it for tuppence... idiot... I have an EHX Octave Multiplexer which is a nice sounding octave on a budget (i think it sounds nicer than the oc2 derivatives myself) but it doesn't track as well. I have the COG T65 too. Again loosely oc2 based but with a +1 octave instead of a -2 and a tone control on the -1 octave similar to the Aguilar Octamizer. It's part of a double effect with a Mastotron-type fuzz, but that's a different price point altogether. Sounds inhuman though! Dirty synthy either with or without the fuzz.
I picked up a Chord OC50 for £20 delivered off here. Great pedal - nails the OC2 sound and seems to be well put together. Mine tracks down to F# on one of my basses and A on the rest of them (which is still pretty good!)
18. Haha that's mine - I didn't expect to see this this on here! I'm sad to sell it but money is short and I can't justify owning 2 filters (I also have a Source Audio Manta)
19. Bought an effects pedal off Damon - it arrived promptly, well packaged and as described. Recommended Basschatter! :-)
20.
This is a great site: http://dwtheme.com/derbyshire/1963/
Thanks for that - it was even more innovative thank I thought!
21.
Ooh, where to start? TV: This. Delia Derbyshire was just amazing...
+1 A great iconic theme made long before the advent of synthesisers made using tape loops, I believe. It was truly boundary pushing for 1963.
