1.
Having had both, was going to say Hotcovers > Roqsolid but it looks like your decision has been made!

Hot Covers for me. Had Roqsolid but they began falling apart after about a year of heavy touring.
Now you have me both thinking...
 2.
The P-bass sound is as much about positioning as it is pickup construction. If the Musicman pickup you have is in the same place, then it might be worth looking around, but if it isn't then you're compromised to start. There are soapbar pickups which are P-type pickups underneath and sound very very like P-pickups (the EMG P-35/40s I have in one bass, for example), and I've a Nordy Bigman which is a MM shell with two Big Singles in it, and one of them can get close, but it'd only be close if it's under the right bit of the string... Other then that, I don't know of any offhand, I'm afraid.
Cheers man. I'm not sure exactly how close but here's the bass. I think it's a little closer to the bridge though than a normal P-bass would be. I did hear before of a pickup that had four coils and you could select which were on/off. The front and back coils were split into bass and treble. So that would allow for the split P sound (ish). For the life of me I can't remember who made them but wasn't one of the ones you suggested.
 3. Pretty much what the title suggests. I have a bas which currently has a Kent Armstrong Musicman pickup in it. It runs passive with only a volume and tone pot. I prefer the sound of a P-bass pickup and would like to replace it with one. Question is, can you fit the inners inside the shell of a musicman pickup? Is there any alternative to routing the bass to get a P-bass pickup on there? I have Googled it but all I could come up with was adding a Musicman pickup to a P-bass or the reverse, not replacing. Any help would be great. Thanks.
 4. Thanks for the feedback guys. So looks like most have Roqsolid and even being a little less padded does the job well. Both companies got back to me with the info I needed but roqsolid were really fast and gave a discount code so I think I'll go with them. Cheers again.
 5. Not sure if this should be in this section or not. I'm looking to get padded covers for my Head and Cab. The two companies to choose between are http://www.hotcovers.co.uk & http://www.roqsolid.co.uk Who has used them, anyone used both, opinions on you experience with them? Thanks.
 6.
New strings almost invariably sound brighter!
Very true but not lower output. Until I compared it to my other basses I thought the same though my Jazz has had only one rehearsal on the same strings and the P-bass sounds much brighter than that. The much lower output (than even the Jazz and other P-bass) makes me think the same as Lozz196 that it may be a wiring issue or similar electrical problem.
 7.
Does the tone control still work? If the tone functions like a second volume control then one of the pickup coils is broken. Rather than making no sound this makes pickups sound bright and harsh with little proper low end.
I never got a chance to check it before I took it in. I'll report back whatever they find.
 8.
1) strings sound different. 2) rough rule of thumb as you wind the pickup away from the strings you get more bass and less mids. Also less volume. So on a two pickup bass you can balance both volume and tone with pickup height. Rereading: Obviously you're taking about low output AND low low end... so ignore me and check your wiring like's been said
Yeah, I was worried that I may have lowered the pickup too low as well but after checking it's not much lower than the others but a huge drop in output. I should have A/B'd it before posting but since it was just a setup I didn't think wiring would have been the issue. That said the foam underneath was replaced so maybe something came lose when that was done? Any way I'll take the bass in tomorrow and report back once they've checked it over. Worst case I guess is a pickup change.
 9.
The SPB-2 is famed for having more mids and as such being more aggressive. The Custom Shop Precision pickups are anything but, they have a lovely tone to them - I`ve two US Standards that have these in, warm rounded P-Bass heaven imo. Given that the output of the bass is also a lot quieter than your others I`d reckon on some wiring/connections/solder joints maybe being loose. If I recall correctly this happened to me on an install that a mate did once, all that came out was high end at very low volume - uninstalled the pickup, resoldered and all was fine.
Cool. It's pretty much what I was thinking it might be. I have my amp on 2 for all my other basses but have to turn it up to 4 for this one. That gigging volume on my other basses. So you think the SPB-2 is aggressive? I find it pretty muddy compared to the rest. Though it is in a bass with a J pickup and wired to a master volume with a pan pot but I mostly use it on just the P pickup.
 10. Ok, that's me in now. Have tried all my basses out. My Mex PJ bass (Which I only use the P pickup on) sounds much much darker. My thunderbird and Jazz sound just like they should and all three of those basses have a similar output. My USA P-bass has a lot quieter. I've compared the pickup height and on the last fret I have a clearance of 4mm on the E and 2.5mm on the G for the USA with the Mex it's 3mm on the E and 2.5mm on the G. I should point out the USA p-bass has it's stock pickup which is Fenders Custom Shop 60's and the Mex has a Seymour Duncan SPB-2. So I'd imagine there'd be some difference in output but I would not have though this much. Based on the above, any further suggestions? Oh and all have the same strings with both P-basses having about 2-3 gigs on them. Thanks, G.
 11. Cheers for the replies guys. I'll check the string spacing tonight but if I remember correctly the screw is sitting flush with the pickguard on the E. So pretty low but can go further if needed. When I get a chance I'll take the pickguard off and see what the tone pot is. They never mentioned ant change to electrics. It's no issue to take it back in as I know the shop very well. The setup itself was spot on. I checked it against Fenders guide and it was exactly that except for the pickup height. Any way, I'll report back with that I find when I check it tonight. Thanks again.
 12. Hi all. I have a 2015 American Precision Bass Standard. Have used this as my main bass for the last (almost) year. About 6 months ago or so I switched to D'addario Prosteels and have been using them on all of my basses. My guitarist had said that he found it hard to hear my D and G strings and a gig. So with a small break in gigs I popped my bass in for a setup and re-string. When I got it back the pickup height was really high. So much so when I played high up the neck the strings were hitting off the pickup. Also the bass was distorting on the E. I adjusted the pickup height but it sounds way too bright. Also on the E I'm getting a sharp sound when I pick the string. I've checked the setup but I'm at a loss as the what it can be. I've had to adjust the settings on my amp by a lot, normally the treble is up at 6.5 and pulled out to the extra bright. I've turned it down to 4 and pushed it in to the regular bright setting and I'm still getting it. I've looked online but can't find this exact issue. Does anyone have any ideas?
 13. Yeah. For me it was the font on the neck plate with the gap in the middle and the decal on the headstock. So much wrong with this that I thought I'd let you all see.
 14. There's a few things on this that set off alarm bells http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/332221571702?euid=6ddbad3f941245b68085880ef6851082&bu=43759092826&cp=1&sojTags=bu=bu
 15. Car body shops can do it. You just need to ask. A good one will look up the differences which are really only grain filling and potentially sealing wood should it need it.
 16.
You really have to try cabs before committing yourself. Don't buy on our say so.
That's the problem as mentioned there's no where near that has them. I have in the past tried the 610 and I do remember really liking it. My question was more about will an 8ohm 410 with the Bassman 800 be enough for regular pub/club gigging? So the issue is not sound it's just wether or not it will be enough but from the responses it should be.
 17.
Thought about a barefaced 410 ?
Yeah, In fact I spoke to Alex who suggested the 610. I do love Barefaced but the price point for the 610 is too much at the moment. So you all think the Fender 410 Neo should be ok?
 18. Hi guys. I have a Bassman 800 head. I just sold my cab and am looking to get another. I want to get a matching cab to the head so it's going to be a Fender Neo. I've seen the size and weight of a Neo 810 and it's too much. I like the idea of the 610 but after seeing the 810 and that being too big and heavy I'm wary. I'm considering the 410 but at 8ohms will it be enough? I mean if I got the 410 I could add another cab like another 410 or 115 but then then means 2 cabs going to gigs. I'm really torn on what to go for. Any advice? Also I can't try them as there's no where local that stocks them and I'm in dire need so will have to order ASAP. Main music I play is rock. Thanks for any help guys.

 23. Hi there, this listing is for my Barefaced Super Twelve T. It's a killer cab and has served me well. It's got great lows, amazing highs and lets the sound of your head really come though. It's also incredibly loud. The Super Twelve T is a 2x12 bass cab, the T stands for Tweeter which is a £110 upgrade from the standard Super Twelve which has no tweeter. This cab also has the Silver grill cloth option which again is another £50 on top of the regular black grill cloth. It has been gigged so has some marks, wear and tear to the tolex, small chip to the cover on the corner of the handle (all of this is just cosmetic) but the cab and speakers are fully working. I've tried to show the condition fully in the pictures. The cab has wheels for moving with ease and also comes with a Roqsolid cover to protect it in transit. Pictures below are of the actual item for sale. Details from Barefaced: We know that a good 4x10" is a fine thing The ported betweetered 4x10" revolutionised bass amplification back in the '80s. Since then drivers have become more potent and enclosures have become lighter, and thus the best of the breed can handle most gigs without needing tons of power to drive them, whilst being relatively easy to move. But we want to take the pros of the good 4x10"s and leave the cons behind So what's great about a good 4x10"? High sensitivity - it doesn't need much power to rock out. Tight but solid lows - not deeeeep like the Big One but more than enough for many bassists. Good midrange punch so you cut through the mix. Sweet characterful higher frequencies if the woofers, crossover and tweeter are well matched and designed. Tons of thermal power handling prevents thermal power compression and tonal changes. And what's not so great about a good 4x10"? Squat shape makes it harder to hear onstage and harder to carry through doorways and up narrow staircases. 2x2 woofer arrangement results in less than ideal polar response so the sound varies more around the venue. Excursion-limited power handling is far lower than the thermal power handling, so the lows can't keep up with mids when you're properly loud. We're proud to present the Barefaced NotA410 aka the Super Twelve To be honest we didn't expect this cab to be quite this good. But it's awesome! Anyway, doubtless you're wondering how we can claim that our new 2x12" is a 4x10" beater, especially as every manufacturer worth their salt has a 2x12" or two in their stable. So what's different about our betweetered 2x12"? Well we've managed to achieve all those 4x10" pros whilst avoiding the cons. Vertically aligned drivers result in the best possible horizontal dispersion so your bandmates and audience hear the same tone as you, and minimal floor and ceiling reflections to muddy your tone. Our low distortion tweeter is positioned high on the baffle to maximise audibility. Huge woofer voice coils and high gauss motors result in the highest thermal power handling and midrange sensitivity of any 2x12" on the market, in fact this cab can play easily as loud as the best 4x10"s! High excursion drivers mean the Super Twelve can produce more lows than any conventional 4x10", even those from notably high priced boutique brands. That's that Vd thing we talk about in the techy section. The carefully tuned large cross-section port gives you yet more support in the lows with minimal compression and port noise - this cab can move air! Hidden inside the cab is a complicated bracing arrangement which keeps the lows and midrange clean by minimising panel resonances at relevant frequencies. Asymmetric driver positioning, bracing and damping results in maximum midrange and treble coherence and clarity. Custom designed high order crossover results in very clean sweet treble even at high SPL, with an adjustable attenuator so you can tweak your highs just like an old school 4x10". Keeping it simple At Barefaced we are minimalists. Because we spend time with each customer to understand their needs we can help you decide whether you actually need a tweeter on the Super Twelve and if you don't then you can save yourself some weight and some money and go without. Sounds perfect! Well, nothing's ever perfect but we believe this is our best compromise cab for many bassists. If you wonder whether this cab is the one for you then do get in touch and we'll help advise you accurately. But I don't see how you can better a good 4x10" in every respect, I thought loudspeaker design was about balancing compromises? Aha, you've obviously been paying attention! So what have we compromised on to make a cab that is smaller and lighter than any 4x10"s yet just as loud and able to move even more air? The best boutique neo 4x10"s will produce more lows with a 250W amp than the Super Twelve will - we've given up some low frequency sensitivity (due to our long voice coil big magnet drivers). But if your amp produces much over 300W into a 4 ohm load then the increased excursion-limited power handling of the Super Twelve turns the tables - twenty years ago the 4x10"s ruled the roost due to limited amplifier power output, now the situation is a little different. What if the Super Twelve isn't loud enough for all my gigs? Firstly, this is a seriously loud cab. Even with a few hundred watts pushing it the Super Twelve can drown out hard rocking drummers. You can safely pair this with the biggest amps on the market and dump a full 1000W in to get crazy SPL out (please wear ear plugs!) But on very large stages or playing outdoor gigs you may need more output. In that case if you have an amp which can run down to 2.7 or 2 ohms nominal then you have a few different options. Option one is stacking two Super Twelves, for a righteous 4x12" rig that's happy being pushing by 2000W of amplification. Alternatively if you just need a bit more output you can stack a Midget on top - the time alignment that helps the Midget work optimally with the Compact actually tilts the polar pattern upwards when stacking a Midget on a Super Twelve, which will help you hear yourself especially if you have to stand close to your rig. The excursion-limited design of the Midget means it'll run slightly cleaner than the Super Twelve at equal voltage input (so the Super Twelve is getting twice as many watts) but that's fine when the Super Twelve is more than loud enough for overpowering distortion to get heard (at which point things will be very very loud indeed). And thirdly you can stack a Super Twelve on a Compact - a bit like the classic 4x10" plus 1x15" stack, except it's much better phase aligned and power matched. If your amp doesn't run below 4 ohms then the only way to expand a Super Twelve rig is to add a second Super Twelve and wire the two cabs in series with a special cable. However you must NOT series wire dissimilar cabs such as a Midget or Compact or indeed any other manufacturer's cabs. Specs: DIMENSIONS 30" H x 19.5" W x 13.5" D 76cm x 48cm x 34cm WEIGHT 40lbs/18kg (Super Twelve) 42lbs/19kg (Super Twelve T) BROADBAND SENSITIVITY 102dB - louder than many 4x10" cabs USABLE FREQUENCY RANGE 37Hz - 4kHz 37Hz - 22kHz (T) RECOMMENDED AMP POWER 150-1200W RMS MAX CONTINOUS BROADBAND SPL 130dB - Louder than most 4x10"s and many 4x12"s NOMINAL IMPEDANCE 4 ohms GRILL OPTIONS Black steel or silver cloth (+£50) PRICE Super Twelve - £760 Super Twelve T - £870 Postage is £39.95 sent via courier within the mainland UK only.
