1. Officially entered into the Guinness Book of Records as the corniest thread ever on an internet forum

... Announcing the entry Norris McWhirter stated "this proves that bass players are up there with the Krankies and the Chuckle Brothers"

A moustachio'ed shopkeeper added "'this thread's passed on! This thread is no more! It has ceased to be! 'It's expired and gone to meet 'is maker! 'It's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'it rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed 'im to the Forum 'it'd be pushing up the daisies! 'It's metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'It's off the twig! 'It's kicked the bucket, 'It's shuffled off 'its mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!! THIS IS AN EX-THREAD!!"

  2.
Right - sorry for turning this into a total train-spotters thread - but I've conducted some research :)

    Here are my findings:

There is more than one P-Bass. 'The' P-bass is very old and battered and has cream pups, but there is another, newer sunburst P-bass with black pups.

There is a sunburst Jazz.

There is a natural/cream Jazz

I have footage of the Seeds here with Casey playing a black Jazz.
As an aside - here is a picture of Warren Ellis playing what looks like a miniture T-bird.

    Thank you for your time!

    Blimey, some serious research!

But fact remains he played the battered P bass on every track from every era on Beeb 4 night - and he's still probably spent less than me over the years

  3.
7 mins isn's fast at all..... some would say that's bordering on a marathon !! :)
Depends if you include watching Coronation Street first then having a beer ...

  4.
To be fair, if I had a 'burst '62 P, and Ampeg stack and a road-crew to haul it all around, I'd be almost totally GAS-free, too.
I don't think you should complaining about owning a beautiful P bass (or three!)

Very jealous of your avatar :)

  5.
I'm 99.99% sure that I've seen footage of him playing a Jazz, although I've seen Nick Cave and/or Bad Seeds/Grinderman live god knows how many times and never seen him playing anything other than that P. Not that I'm an obsessive Cave fan or anything. :)

    Pluck
He does indeed have a Jazz (natural/m/n), it was on a stand at the back of the gig they showed on Beeb 4 from the recent tour - but he didn't play it once! Presume its a back-up if he breaks a string .. and that he never breaks a string on his ancient P bass!

  6. Due to arrival of my Sansamp Programmable BDDI for a bargain £125 from US (link if interested http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Tech-21-Sansamp-Prog...dZp1638Q2em122)

  7. Watched the excellent Nick Cave evening the other day on BBC Four and was struck by the fact that - based on the appearances over the years on Jools Holland's late night show - the Bad Seeds bass player Martyn Casey has used one bass only live for last 20 years - a very relic'ed 62 sunburst Fender P, I think. His amp/cab (Ampeg SVT) also looks to have stayed the same, although I am less certain of that. This means his net expenditure on GAS over the past 20 years has been ... er nil!

When I compare this to my net expenditure (and undoubtedly those of others on this Forum) as we search for the perfect bass/rig it puts me to shame :) I also think its pretty cool getting your set-up and sound and just sticking to it.

  8.
No, they're not, they're actually very inflexible and don't work well with much of sweat [they suddenly grip you fingers in a weird way]. As previously pointed out he has a very low action so he doesn't [and doesn't need to] pluck particularly hard. At the end of about 2.5 hours of playing we often play stuff like Run To The Hills as an encore pretty fast. It's no great feat with plenty of practice [or when playing plenty of gigs], staying loose and relaxed is more effective than digging in as those speeds.
I had his signature strings on a P bass once - hated them. They're thick and inflexible and feel like transatlantic power cables. Dunno how he plays them, even if he doesn't pluck hard >>>

  9.
Hi,

    I'm selling one of these...

    http://www.markbass.it/products.php?lingua...t=2&vedi=26

It's about 18 months old (will dig receipt out to confirm) - I've owned it from new.

    £825 /offers

Pics and full details asap !
Good luck, I've had one on this Forum for a while but no takers as yet :) It took warwickhunt a while to sell his high-end Tech SoundSytems 6x10 so it looks like 6x10's are not too easy to shift at the moment

    Again, best of luck!

  10.
his technique in fact is very sloppy. An old bass tutor an I discussed and analysed his playing, and what he's doing is controlling his index and middle finger to hit the string and letting his ring finger follow through. If you asked him to play any other rythm with the three fingers I would not know if he could.
I wish I could attain that level of sloppiness :)

  11.
It's almost out (according with their web site..)

Anyone know any stores in Europe that accept reservations?

    Thanks,
    Luis
This one in Germany? http://www.soundland.de/catalog/product_in...986/language/uk

  12.
Have discovered that a smaller cab is fine for most of my band's gigs, which normally have PA, and thus Markbass 106 is a bit of an unused luxury.

Just wondered if anyone interested in this pretty lightweight (77lb) high-quality 10x6 cab. Has literally left my house only once, for a gig at the Hope & Anchor, Islington and is too big and powerful to schlep along for band rehearsals. It looks totally as new. Cost me, from memory, c£900 from Bass Centre in London in February (they now charge £972, think prices gone up due to strong Euro). Would have to be pick up from Central London (I live nr Hammersmith) due to size.

Would also consider trade against a vgc Fender US 1962 sunburst/RN Precision reissue (Jamerson stylee, the only bass I still covet)
been a while so bump time

  13.
My personal Fave is Ribbed but Punk In Drublic is the big one i guess

  14.
NOFX are awesome own everything they havew ever made on vinyl .

Clarky loving the band man Bullet Bar is a great venue if your not put on with 4 metal bands :S

I might as well do a bit of self serving The Plan
Confession - never heard NOFX despite loads of recommendations. Whats their best album so I can take a listen?

  15. When I said American pseudo-punk I meant the stuff that Kerraang calls punk and that most 'musicians wanted' ads refer to as punk - ie, Green Day and the myriad of less talented sound-alikes that followed them

  16. Blimey! I can't do that :)

Re: punk, its fantastic live music, really gets pulses racing although there's good (Pistols, Stranglers, Damned, Ruts, Buzzcocks etc) and bad (Oi bands, American-pseudo punk etc).

Sorry for self-serving ad here, but - if you like punk and you have a couple of minutes to spare - check out my band Kismetik on Myspace for some fast punk mixed up with surf/psychobilly guitar and even an Ennio Morricone-inspired punk hoedown (Drunk at the Wake). If anyone likes it and lives in London, we're on at the Bullet bar in Camden tonight at 9.30pm

    Cheers Clarky

  17. +1 from me - just did an Epifani cab swap with Nick and had very enjoyable bassey bloke chat! Mrs Clarky would have been bored rigid but then the feeling's mutual when she starts wittering on about Project Catwalk, America's top model etc etc zzzzz. Mars, venus and all that. Yeah off-topic ...

  18.
Google RB23110 and you'll find that the power supply is built in,or 'on board'.Its 9v at 300 Ma.Should be OK.
Thanks squire5

  19. I have ordered a small effects bag/board (Rockbag 23110 - specs below from Thomann site) and it states that it features "1 external Power Supply (4 Connectors 9 V)".

    http://www.thomann.de/gb/warwick_rb23110.h...artner_id=25293

Does this mean it is set up for attachment to an external power supply unit (which I will need to buy separately) or does it actually have one built-in? Anyone have one of these and know the answer? If it does need an external PSU, what would you recommend?

    Cheers Clarky

PS, I emailed the retailer I ordered it from (GAK) with this question but have had no reply
