1. Just bought an Epifani UL115 off loudandclear (aka Terry). Cab was in great nick and could not have been dispatched faster or been better packed (even had wooden crating around it). Top Forumite! Buy/sell with confidence.

  2.
I can't believe i've lost my favourite strap, i've had it for years. So what do you use? anything wide and comfy?
Try one of the neoprene padded Comfort strapps - very nice on the shoulders! Here is a link http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...ass_Direct.html

Do I get commission Mark? :)

  3. Hi there - no as UL115 is being delivered this week. I used the stock backline at the Dry Bar which, as discussed above, is actually not at all bad (I've played places where the soc-called "backline" bass amp comprised a 30W practice combo!)

For gig tonight at Hope & Anchor (see Gigs post) I am using my Tech 21 Landmark 300 head (as I am sharing it between four bands and its very versatile) and another band is supplying a 4x10 cab.

  4. Short notice but if any Forumites live in/nr Islington, London and fancy a rowdy night, there's a 'Battle of the Bands' on at the Hope & Anchor tonight. Starts at 8pm. Line up is Clay Pigeon, The Blox (Ian Dury & Blockheads tribute), Kismetik (my psychobilly-influenced punk lot) and Oiz II Men (rowdy Oi punk band). Compered by the legendary Max Splodge (remember Splodgenessabounds' 'Two pint of lager and a packet of crisps please?') We are onstage at 9.30pm. Should be a laugh.

    Cheers Clarky

  5. Funnily enough my band (Kismetik) played there two days ago, on Saturday night. Backline is pretty good. Fender head and large cab for bass, two guitar amps (one looks like an old Fender combo, the other a Line 6 modelling combo), drums good (but bring cymbals, snare etc). All in all, was pleasantly surprised.

Good venue for a small gig but not much passing trade near the Brbican so if you (or the other bands) don't have fans/family/friends it will be pretty quiet.

They also record yr performance, we got three copies of DVD for a tota of £30 which was a good price. Very helpful to go back and analyse where things could be better etc.

    Enjoy!

  6. As excited soon-to-be-owner of a UL115, what UL cab do people think would be best paired with this to cover all medium-to-large venue sizes, with and without PA. I play rock (punk, thrash etc).

The Metallica man in me says another UL115 (Cliff Burton played through 2 Mesa Boogie 15s) but is this OTT and/or missing out on certain frequences? Would a UL210 or UL212 be better? Or go the whole hog and get an UL410?

Just idle musings at moment ... which everyone knows are a dangerous thing :)

  7. Hi all, as have managed to source an Epifani UL115 from another Forumite am looking to move on my Aguilar GS112NT (300W, 8 ohm, weight 39 lb).

New they are about £300 from the Bass Merchant (where I bought mine in July 2007) and the Bass Gallery. Mine is in tip top, ungigged nick (have attached link to Aguilar website as my photos keep bouncing back as "larger than the available space"). Don't have a cover. As you probably all know, these have great sound quality - I just needed something more powerful.

Already have an offer from outside Forum of £200 plus p&p - would rather sell to a Forumite so anyone interested in matching that just PM me. Prefer bank transfer or cleared cheque as Paypal fees very high.

If pick-up preferred, I am nr Hammersmith in central London.

  8.
I recently replaced the stock pick-up on my 1975 RI CIJ P bass (manufactured 1995/6; the one on my picture) with a high output Seymour Duncan SPB-3 Quarter Pounder.

The old pick-up is in good condition and is now sat there in the Seymour Duncan box doing nothing. It produces a stock Fender P sound. Anyone after a back-up/spare/replacement or p/up for a build project?

    £10 plus p&p (probably £2-3 in a jiffy bag).

Then I can buy three pints of Guinness at my next gig (after playing of course):)
Gone!

  9.
I'm looking to get a wireless unit but haven't a scooby doo which one to get! :) Can anyone recommend a good 'un?
    Cheers!
Not tried it but Ashdown have just introduced the Freebass wireless sytem which retails for a reasonable looking £149. Here's the link

  10.
hi,
can anyone recommend a decent pickup for my double bass?
the bass is a cheapo!! so i dont think i need to worry to much about bringing out every suttle nuance of the wood!!!!
im new to the world of upright so id like something thats forgiving to my dodgy playing technique :)

not asking for much am i ??

    cheers
Two p/ups that are usually highly recommended are the Underwood (I recently sold one on the Forum) and the David Gage Realist. On eBay you will find lots of other cheaper makes but I don't know whether these are any good.

    Over to someone else ....

  11.
Import = No guarantee :)
Wasn't promoting it Mark! Just knew lots of people are waiting for these to start coming into the country, via Bass Direct of course!

Anyway, I say buy a Markbass R500 instead

  12. I was the cool one :)

Your mate's rockabilly band (The Jumpstarters) were wicked - and I don't normally like rockabilly! Bass player v cool and prompted me to go and buy a set of nylon strings for my gathering-dust-never-used double bass!

Sorry if this is a bit off-track ... over to the Denmark St bashers!
