Also, I still constantly come across extreme bargains on ebay and take advantage, I don't think its dead at all!
This guy is an even bigger optimist - 2nd hand US Precision for £800 with no photo. As if anyone would part with 800 readies sight unseen (I know you can sometimes email for pics and serial number but he doesn't mention this). Strangely it didn't sell last time and he has just re-listed .........

  2.
It's the first thread I've been in on here that's had a bit of 'bite' so no, I'm not making friends with you. I'll have more fun if we leave it as it is so I can provoke you whilst taking the moral high ground in some other threads.

I'm a long way from Tonbridge so I'll let you post me a cheque for my waffle.
Anyway the waffles in Tonbridge are rubbish - they're made in Mexico

  3.
I've just taken delivery of a 2008 American Standard P Bass. It's the best quality US Fender I've owned and it sounds amazing.

I'm not sure why I've told you this but I had to tell someone. I told my wife but she doesn't care. You probably don't either.

My point? Yeah, that's right. I'm Brad.

    PS Sod off Clarky!!
doh!

  4.
I don't disagree with your view that quality varies and that for some, an MIA is not worth the extra cash.

I disagree with the retarded statement that you made.

As for being rude, as an MIA owner, you infered I was a snob.

Snob or retard? Not sure which I'd prefer really.
Where is the love?

All together now, sod off Clarky! :)

  5.
A while ago i got a squire jazz bass made in china for one of my students and before giving it to him i did a bit of tweaking to get the best out of , truss rod , string height, intonation.
This weekend at his home where he has his lesson i thought i would take my fender jazz mia and my Markbass combo and see what differences there were now it had time to settle in a bit.
The Squire actually sounded better through a crap 15watt amp than my Fender and through the Markbass combo my fender was just marginally better having a little more complexity to the tone.
The neck on the Squire is better as i had to have my fender worked on by a luthier as it had a different relief on each side of the neck and the Squires neck is actually more comfortable towards the headstock.
My fender cost £800 with case and the Squire was £125 with a cardboard box, considering the differences, which one would you be happy to get knocked about in the car/van/ pub ?
It seems to my ears also that the pickups in both basses are of equal quality, so what am i paying for when i buy a mia fender?
    cheers, Jez.
If this descends into "I like Fenders, I hate Fenders" slagging off match then an interesting thread will have lost its way ... IMHO :)

  6. PS, my Landmark 300 was for sale on the Forum but I withdrew it due to lack of interest

    http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...amp;hl=landmark

Was selling at £350 + postage including the Aguilar rack sleeve, would sell for £320 +postage including Warwick Rackbag :)

  7.
I need a bit of advice. Looking to start upgrading gear in the next couple of weeks (yes Gary, the time has come), so here goes.

I've been thinking about piggybacking the new POD X3 Pro (due September) onto a stereo poweramp, but in the last couple of days though, the waters have been clouded somewhat - I've been reading up about the Tech 21 Landmark 300 head and have listened to the sound samples on their website. I like what I'm hearing and what I've read so far, but I can find scant info on UK sellers. I'm looking to run either setup into a 4x10 and a 1x15 (both Ashdown MAGs for now).

I know the POD isn't available yet, but I'm thinking with the Tech 21 I get a 2U rack unit (and presumably a very close version of the Geddy/Chris Squire clank which I want) plus no loading backache. The POD/Amp combo will be 5U rack of POD/Amp. At the end of the day I figure if I need to run a guitar, I have a guitar POD, so I'll use that, dispensing with the new POD

So who has a Landmark 300? Any good? Does it fit a standard 19" rack? I'm going to be mighty pissed if it can't cut the mustard.

I have a Landmark 300 - does exactly what all Sansamp based products do tone wise (tubey to full on distortion and clean) and has two channels with footswitch - very useful. Not light by today's standards (20-odd pounds) but light by historic standards. Fits standard 2u rack case. I have it in a Warwick Rackbag but also have a neat black Aguilar 2u rack sleeve that I sometimes put it in (looks better than the Warwick bag). Built like a tank too.

  9. Virtually anything by Nick Cave! eg "Loverman", "Red right hand", "Where the wild roses grow"

or worst of all "Sweet caress" by the Misfits:

    "I got something to say
    i killed your baby today
and it doesn't matter much to me as long as it's dead
well i got something to say
i raped your mother today and it doesn't matter much to me as long as she's spread
sweet lovely death i am waiting for your breath come sweet death, one last caress"

    Charming

  10. I sold Marcus an ODB-3 to feed his habit (his 4th ODB-3 I believe!) Incredibly fast and easy deal - top man but then you probably know that already from all his other positive feedback.

  11.
Hi, considering selling my Rick 4001 FG (don't need two 4001's and am thinking about peety's PJ). Its in great condition for a near 30-year old bass with a bit of mojo in the usual places (end of headstock and bottom of bass where it stands; some mild lacquer crazing) and it plays fabulously well (very low action). Based on eBay deals over last fewmonths I think its worth about £1,000 +/-.

BTW, not interested in trades as I have my eye on peety's mojo'ed 70's Fender PJ

    Cheers Clarky
WITHDRAWN - Peety has sold his PJ and thus I have no immediate need for funds. Thanks for looking anyway.

Unless of course you have a Fender MIA 62 Precision Reissue in 3TS/tortoiseshell you want to do some kind of deal on!

  12. In an an effort to rationalise my collection of basses I am selling my SG Reissue bass.

Its in good but not mint nick - has a 1cm ding on rear (not through to wood and obviously not visible from front on), a few minor surface scratches (in the lacquer, again not to wood) and one loose control knob (which I'm sure could be fixed very easily but I haven't been @rsed). I have added a Hipshot bridge (c.£60, had to be imported from US) which improves sustain but have the original still (a five minute job to re-install) and comes with plush Gibson hard case. Looks very cool and my mention of the imperfections above probably makes it sound less good than the reality. In terms of sound, you probably already know that its a very boomy full sound, not hi-fi and certainly not for slapping! Strung with new Rotosound short-scale flats but I also have the Gibson supplied roundwounds too. New cost is c.£850 so would consider offer of £450 (plus post) or £420 w/o Hipshot bridge.
