1. I need to sell this so, cutting to the chase, my final price is £1400 including delivery. Can't say fairer than that. If it doesn't sell for this I will have to store it away for a better time to sell and find the tax money elsewhere
2. The return of my eldest from three weeks travel, ending up at Pukkelpop festival in Belgium, meant I couldn't attend. Sounds like I missed a corker - hope to make the gig in January!
3. I am strangely drawn to you stingraypete - please post as often as possible
4. Forgot to add - serial number is 615019 This brings up the following on the Fender serial dater project website (just to endorse the year): "Your guitar was made at the Fullerton Plant (Fender - CBS Era), USA in the Year(s): 1975"
5. That looks beautifully put together by Jon. Congratulations! PS, mine is smaller
6. Show off! Besides, as they say, the funk is the fingers ... Shame mine are like sausages
7. Sounds like fun! Next you will be looking for mid-60s Precison, Barrie lol!
8.
Surely punk is about not having rules though?
Bang on! Its a Noguera burl spalted maple headless 8 string fretless at the next gig
9.
It's already a stunner Clarky. I still can't afford it, but almost tempted to go into debt for it. Taking my good wife out for lunch today, with the hope that after a glass or two she might see the investment potential of a decent seventies jazz and talk me into buying it .
Good luck with that Gary - make sure its a glass or two of Carlsberg Special Brew and it might do the job
10. Sunday morning bump. Swapped strings for medium gauge today (it came with heavy gauge strings) and it is now super-slick. Great player and all it needs IMHO is a more celluloid-y tort guard (bass doc is your man ) or a three-ply black guard to be a stunner
11.
Right. I warned you. (Adopts Basil Fawlty voice) You're out of the Precision club! PS: Looks like a Yamaha anyway
How very dare you! My other three basses are Precisions
12. For Happy Jack's benefit ( ) here is a link to a pic of us playing the Punkfest this evening, with me playing an Alembic http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry932345
13. Kismetik playing at Gosport Punkfest this evening. Yep, thats me playing an Alembic at a punk gig!
14.
Hi Clarky , I am interested , I like the fact it's a 4 bolter with a Maple neck . I assume all the basic's are there , ie , straight neck + pick-ups work . Do the frets have much wear ? Are you based in Central London . ( I am on the Isle of Wight ) Thanks Martin.
Hi Martin, as far as I am concerned its completely functional - pickups work, neck is straight etc and the frets have plenty of life in them still. As I mentioned earlier, one of BC's moderators (SiBob) recently played this and it was owned by Happy Jack, so you could always seek an independent view. I live near Hammersmith in Central London and work near Liverpool St Cheers Clarky
15. Hey BB and b5, afraid I am after cash in this instance due to nasty (Spanish) taxman who wants to take rather more (several times ) off me than £1500
16. Just another opinion but - as someone who loved Van Halen and Montrose back in the day - I absolutely HATED that Youtube Chickenfoot track, Soap on a Rope. Tired and formulaic beyond belief. On the other hand, I like much of the Them Crooked Vultures album although some of it should have been left on the cutting room floor - it would have made a cracking 50-55 minute album, not the 70-odd (or whatever it is) minutes with filler that it turned out. Anyways my vote between the two is a definite TCV
17. Cheers Gary - there really are some fabulous basses for sale on BC right now - its a buyer's market ... which is great if you're a buyer Here's another few pics (not great, but its dark now!):
18. Got this in a trade on BassChat but need to raise funds so selling on. A 1975 Fender Jazz that has seen some serious work in the pubs and clubs of Ireland (I understand!) and carries some of the scars from doing so*! Reasonably lightweight (9.6 lb on my digital scales) and a great player (it has been played by BC's Happy Jack and SiBob if you wanted a third party opinion), with the preferred 4-bolt neck. Its all original apart from: replacement brass nut; replacement tort guard; bridge pickup had died and was rewound to original spec by previous owner; has an earlier (1973) and more collector-desirable Fender bridge with the elongated G screw. If I were keeping it, the only thing I would do is get The Bass Doc to make a more 70s-correct repro tort guard. No hard case I'm afraid but will be securely packed in a premium Ritter gigbag. I'm after [s]£1500 ono[/s] £1400 including delivery - final price * the 'mojo'd' paintwork is clear on the pics. There is also a big ding underneath (an inch long) where it obviously bashed into a doorframe or similar - this is not visible front or back on, only when you tilt it up to look at the lower body edging. Just want the buyer to be aware of every imperfection!
19. If I may be of help - from a Talkbass FS ad for Fender American Standard P5: "Q. What is the width @ nut and 12th fret, and string spacing at the bridge? A. I don't have the most accurate measuring device, but here are the (close) measurements: Nut: 1 15/16 minus a hair 12th: 2 3/4 String spacing at bridge is by my measure 18.6."
20. I recently may have destroyed an amp through accidentally using an instrument jack-to-jack cable rather than an amp cable (fortunately I got the amp replaced). I could not have made this stupid error with speakon ended cables. For that reason alone I just ordered some nice new speakon cables from obbm
21. Might be able to get along, depending on family demands and how cream-crackered I am from driving to/from Gosport for the Punkfest tomorrow. What time are you due onstage Pete?
Gents, I have an update: Si's funeral will be at Canford Crematorium, Canford Lane, Westbury On Trym, Bristol BS9 3PQ at 12 noon on Wednesday 1st September and afterwards at his sister's house -- PM me if you want the address. I am told that friends are welcome both at the service and the wake. Let me know if you intend to come along. It would be good to see you, and to get together and raise a BC glass to the old fella. Awaiting details for a charity for any donations in memory of Si.
I - like most regulars on BassChat I guess - will be raising a glass in Si's honour next Wednesday. Thx for update Rich. This thread is an extraordinariily moving read
23. thanks guy ... great minds think alike
24. Based on the blazing row at our rehearsal on Wednesday, this may be our swansong gig
25. I have half solved the problem by taking the knob off (its held in by two grub screws) and then screwing it it in more tightly and slightly off true, so that the edge grips on the surface of the bass as it turns. It doesn't spin anything like as freely as it did before, so its definitely more gig-friendly, although its still not perfect like the other knob. It will probably have to do if the alternative, as others have suggested, is an expensive brand new pot.
