1.
+1, and well put. Even when I play basses with "broader tonal possibilities" (I also have a Wal and a Goodfellow) and actually USE them, it usually turns out that I'm the only person in the room who notices the difference.
I really like the crunchy tone of my Alembic (think 'Enter Sandman', which was recorded with the same model as mine I believe) and was a bit disappointed when I played this recently at a pub gig and a BCer in the audience said it sounded just like a Precision!
 2. "Decal" is dignifying it - it looks like the words 'Jazz Bass' were written on in black permanent marker pen!
 3.
From a "bass you will use perspective" does one of them talk to you, inspire you and let the creativity flow? if one of them does... I'd say thats a keeper. It seems a pretty vague outlook but I really have only found one bass that keeps me coming back to it in this way and thats the Pino (so far!). If they both feel like that - lucky boy
Hmmm. The 72P gives me that inspirational factor but it could be because my brain tells me its a vintage Fender and its what I salivated over as a kid. The AC is a better playing bass with broader tonal possibilities. Push comes to shove I guess its my 72P but they are both cracking instruments.
 4. I will keep this FS until Friday and then withdraw as I'm really not sure I should be selling it! Boutique-tastic bump!
 5. Good lord - what an amazing number of desirable Fenders! Which ones do you still own?
 6. On hold for a potential buyer
 7. Pics as requested. Lady Luck retro 50s sticker courtesy of BC'er Sean who sold Sid back to me.
 8. Thank you Chris, your voucher for £20 off a new Jazz bass is in the post! Just weighed the bass and it comes in at 9.52 pounds
 9.
Somewhere between Sid, Dee Dee Ramone & Paul Simonon it all makes sense...but it does rather go against the punk ethos if everybody is the same. I guess someone truly wanting to be punk these days would play a Hohner Jack bass! Now there's a thought
or an Alembic (like I did at Gosport Punkfest 10 days ago!) http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry932345
 10.
bump for This Thursday night at The Grey Horse, Kingston upon Thames, South London. We're on earlier so tubes home shouldn't be a problem.
Afraid I doubt I can make it Tim but, just in case, what time are you due onstage and how long is your set?
 11.
I'm not one normally to find joy in others misery but I just love the idea of playing a punk all dayer & everybody having the same bass.
Its become something of a uniform these days, I suspect due to the white Squier that was launched a couple of years ago. One gig I did a few months ago, all four bands had white P basses. So much for individualism! Mind, I can't talk - I made Sid into a Clash tribute bass
 12.
Damn you Mr Clark!! "I will not buy a train ticket to London.. I will not..."
You're fine Mark, its not black!
 13.
Is that photo post-coitial? :-D
yeah, the 72P is next to it (out of shot) smoking a fag
 14.
Sorely tempted. Been looking to get one of these for a few years now. In fact I came close to buying this last time you put it up for sale but was looking to get one with the stock pickup. I'm dithering whether to get this or shell out the extra for a newer one or the US version that someone has listed here. I just put up an ad for one of these a couple of days ago and now have £350 sitting in my Paypal account after selling my piccolo and a vintage sax mouthpiece this weekend. Just enough for the bass and a return to London. Clarky, any chance you could post pictures of the rest of the bass, front and back? Are there alternatives for the pickup? Not so keen on the cream. :snob:
I will try to get some more pics up tonight. You would probably have to swap out the pickup if you didn't want cream as its a DiMarzio and I am not sure whether a cheapo ebay black plastic pickup cover would work (the pole pieces on a DiMarzio have screw-able endings, so they are not like standard black cylindrical magnet endings). You could pick up a P bass pickup on BC (eg Wizard, or Fender) for probably £30-40 and sell the DiMarzio for maybe £30. Cheers Clarky
 15.
Cheers Clarky. I must admit i have no idea what most of the 3rd party jazz pups sound like so i need to do a bit of reading up on them. I dont want to spend a fortunes on them though so Nordys, Fralins and the higher end pups are out.
Drop SiBob a PM, Dave. I think he has tried several types of Jazz pickup, including UltraJazzes
 16. Not sparkly in my view, Dave. More like a more punchy Jazz, with no hum (as they are humbucking). Good for rock IMHO
 17.
Chris, I can't begin to tell you how disappointed I am.
To be fair, it was covered in Utterly Butterly at the time
 18.
Is that the bass you bought to my place a couple of years back Clarky? If so, it is a stunner, lovely tone and plays like butter, just how a Precision should be. It's a hell of a lot of bass for the money for sure. Good decision on playing the '72 more by the way. C
It is the very same bass, Chris. At last, a decision you approve of
 19.
Bloody hell Clarky. I'm getting the urge....
Well Adam, it would reunite you with your old DiMarzio!
 20.
Give me a good reason not to buy this, Clarky....Please.
Erm, you're not in London? Will that do?
 21. I bought back my punk bass "Sid" a few months back but, my soul-searching about getting the most out of my basses (especially my 72P) leads me to put this up FS. Two reasons: (1) I use Sid for most gigs and practices, and I need to stop being so precious and use my 72P way more; and (2) I am frankly a bit bored of white Precisions, especially when at virtually every punk gig I play nearly every band has a white P bass! Sid itself is 70 reissue CIJ bass of mid-90s heritage with two mods - a Badass bridge and vintage cream DiMarzio pickup for Clash-alike appearance (and very thumpy, woody sound - not for fans of treble-y, hi-fi bass!). Its become very cream-coloured with time and its got a fair few dings which only add to its appeal IMHO. The board is a deep dark rosewood and plays very smoothly with Pyramid Gold flatwound strings. Its a B width neck, so in between a P and a J neck width-wise, and very comfy in the hand. One pic below and a bunch more pics here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=88024&hl I am all out of shipping boxes (and patience waiting in all day for Interparcel from the lovely Mrs C!) and it only has a thin gigbag, so would prefer meet in London. £330 sounds about right to me. This is a cracking bass but I need to get my 72P out and played.
 22.
Clarkey, stand in front of Mrs C, bollocko, with the P bass, then the AC bass and ask her which she prefers.
The answer will be Johnny Depp
 23.
Personally I’d sell the kids for medical experiments.
Ah, you've met them then, Chris?
 24. Based on my extraordinarily scientific poll http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=100837&hl= most of you think I should keep my 72 P-bass over this. I will keep this FS for a few days and then withdraw it if no interest - which in truth will not be too much of a hardship as its the best-playing bass I own!
