1. No worries Keith! Thanks for looking
2. This does not come on at all even if you leave it for several minutes, unless I boost the gain and master and then drop back. It's very odd. I wonder is it a pot problem, a problem with cab compatibility or a straigt electrical fault?
3. I recently picked up a used Mesa Walkabout from the forum. Very quickly it developed a very annoying fault. That is, when I switch it on there is no volume and even touching the end of the instrument lead with it plugged in makes absolutely no sound. By trial and error I have discovered that if I turn the gain full on and turn up the master volume to max it jumps - LOUDLY - into life. I can then roll off the gain and master and use as normal. So does anyone have any idea what is happening here? It's very odd and very frustrating and I worry about the damage to my cab that starting on max will do?
4. I am thinking of replacing my Full Circle pickup but this requires me to replace the bridge wheel adjusters. I can only find them on sale in US or at a vastly inflated price (£40 or more; more than twice the US price) by one or two UK retailers. Does anyone have any spares they are happy to sell me? Cheers Clarky
5. I watched Kit, ably supported by Nige and the crew, at the Half Moon in Putney recently. Very good stuff but - for me - it would be a lesser spectacle without Nige's trademark black leather trousers and chrome-bling Warwick
6. Blimey that takes me back to my first year at Uni when everyone owned 'Nightbirds' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8k0EytNHQ7E
7. Skank, you missed one genre: * Midget tribute bands * http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCl4PbeaOQ4
8.
All things Bob has a good guide, you could take the non-pickup side off to check.
Thanks for that - looks very helpful
9.
Those adjusters will be 1 of 3 sizes Clarky; UNC 1/4-20, 6x1mm or UNC 5/16-18. If you have the original package it will tell you. You can buy adjusting wheels accordingly.
Thanks TPJ, unfortunately the FC came installed on the bass so I have no idea which size they are
10. Well drurb on the Talkbass thread has just reported back after using the Ehrlund with a Big band and is raving about it. Sounds the way to go. Just got to figure how I replace the Full Circle wheels on my bridge with identical size adjusters ....
11. ..and I wouldn't mind that stripped 63J to match my (year-of-birth) 63P What a drool-worthy collection
12. The nicest low tension steel I have tried are Kolstein Heritage. Not massively pricey (cost just over £100 if you import from Gollihur's in US). Cheapest option will be Innovations
13. I learned about six songs for my auditions for Rattlin Bone and All The Queens Ravens. I reckon that's plenty to demonstrate commitment and your abilities. Best of luck matey!
14. Jonas Lohse at Kontrabass Atelier in Germany sells the Ehrlund with a shortened cable and a different jack, maybe for the reasons highlighted on TalkBass?
15.
What case would that be?
Was having a joke at his sartorial taste Steve. Bit of levity mate
16. Toots playing 'Three views...' with Jaco on piano http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBhoDaS5SKQ
17. Jeff Berlin? I rest my case
18. Sounds promising
19.
Nice. Wow! Can you tell me more about that bass Walbassist? I guess it's pre-CBS, Don't think I have seen one with those type knobs, only the old stack knob Jazz's? I have a spare set of covers lying around, looking at yours make me want to put them on my CIJ P fretless.
Looks like a P-Retro addition. I think walbassist's Precision is early 70s. It really is a beauty!
20. I look forward to you 'taking one for the team' and trying out the Ehrlund! I might well end up buying one of these too, so keen to see your review once you've gigged it
21. Been gigging DB for a couple of years now but when I was gigging electric (a P bass), it was volume full on, treble rolled off slightly and don't touch for whole set! Worked for me in noisy guitar-led rock/punk bands. Echoing the above, its hard enough for me to remember lines and play accurately without twiddling knobs each song
22. This blog on TalkBass about the Ehrlund (written by one of the better known DB contributors to the forum) might be of interest http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f4/ehrlund-blog-sort-909299/
23.
Heya guys. Thanks for the recommendations so far. Sort of hoping it would be a luthier rather then a shop doing it. The Gallery is a bit far and when I visited for the first time the other day, the guy seemed more interested in his laptop then anything else.
I have been in and Alex (the sales manager) has seemed a bit distant and uninterested at times. However, if you engage him he is a very nice chap and very helpful. My guess is there are so many tyre kickers he doesn't jump to attention each time a customer enters the shop - but he is a good guy if you start a dialogue. And the workshop team (esp Martin) are top quality - and that is after all what you are after
