  1. I've just received a late 70's Precision from Chris. It's everything I'd hoped it would be and more. Great to deal with, lots of good comms, and our shipping arrangement was probably unique, but suffice to say I ended up collecting it very quickly after purchase from a house 2 minutes from mine. Highly recommended. Cheers, Rob
  2. Can anyone recommend a book about vintage Fender basses? I’d like history, timelines, details of features and changes as they evolved, and lots and lots of lovely pictures. Ta, Rob
  3. Nice bass! I doubt that case (with more pictures than the actual bass) is original to it. '71 should have a tailed logo. However.......it's purdy.
  4. @CHRISDABASS The penny has dropped this morning. You're Chris from Alpher. Do you still work with Ben? I'm Rob, Margaret is my step mother and sister to Tom who is Ben's Dad ! I spent a fair bit of time talking bass with Ben a few months ago at Margaret's 80th do. Still mulling over buying this bass.......... Rob
  5. I think the One10 might be all you need. I bought one, loved it, use it, and it sounds great. I bought a second one, just because, and I’ve yet to use it. I was really surprised at the volume and bottom end they can provide. Rob

I recently sold my AVRI '63 Precision Bass to Kevin. Kevin is a pleasure to deal with, I received immediate payment, and he arranged the courier. Totally hassle free, lovely chap, highly recommended. Rob
  7. ATB have a sale on. That mint 74 Jazz is reduced by £1k. Also a couple of 60’s Precisions reduced. Rob
  8. Thieves, crooks, charlatans, fakers, gangsters, convicted criminals, how long a list do you want?
  9. Harrisons = trouble and strife. agreed.
  10. '73's "usually" come up sunburst/tort, I don't recall ever seeing a natural/black one at all for sale recently. I bought a '73 P bass last year from ATB Guitars. I can highly recommend them. Mike Long is good to deal with, and it seems in retrospect that I got a really good deal on mine, given the way prices are now compared with only a year ago. All original bass, non-original case. I love it to bits. Another option, and one I would consider, is contacting a couple of dealers and putting the word out that you're looking. Richard Henry is a straight up dealer, and is on "safari" all the time. If he knows someone is looking, he might find it. He's just put up a couple of '68 Tele basses ex-Oasis. Rob
  11. I don't have much experience of different compressors, but it does sound like we were looking at them for similar reasons. I wanted one that I couldn't really tell if it was on, unless I turned it off. Light compression, and limiting to even things out. At first I bought a Markbass Compressore, which is a marvelous thing, but it was too versatile for it's own good (for me), I could always "hear" it doing it's thing, and I couldn't stop tweaking it because I couldn't get it to do what I wanted. After asking around here, a few people recommended the very basic Boss LMB-3, which is what I now have. Level at 12 o'clock, Enhance OFF, Ratio 11 o'clock, Threshold 11 o'clock, leave it on and forget about it. I think it's bloody brilliant. Rob
  12. Blimey that's clean! Out of my price range though, by a good margin! What's the nut width on this Tony, I'm assuming 44mm? Rob
  13. We should do a poll in this thread on how many of us with bad backs use Barefaced cabs! Two One 10's here. They're just the ticket. Rob
  14. Indeed. I saw Pino Palladino with Chris Dave at Band on the Wall a few years back, funkiest gig I've probably ever attended. Pino sat on a chair centre stage for the entire gig.
  15. I’ve been in that band. Full size Hammond inc. full on sideboard sized wooden case and Leslie to match. To be fair, he did have some kind of cage on wheels for it, but it was still a pain to move. Once at the gig, it always needed maintenance too, right down to soldering bits between sets!
  16. I can relate to this. I slipped a disk late 2015, years of commuting in the car, desk job, and carrying heavy gear on gigs. I tried everything, but nothing fixed my back until surgery in summer 2016, but still 10 months signed off sick. Since then I have a regular exercise and stretching regime, and use the lightest gear possible, and it’s been manageable. Look after your back chaps.
  17. Back up for sale. 2016 American Vintage '63 Reissue Precision Bass in faded sonic blue with rosewood fingerboard. In excellent condition. There's some minor checking in the finish (it's very thin nitro) and a tiny chip in the lacquer on the lower side of the neck pocket. The colour is faded and has slowly greened giving it a very vintage vibe and it's a nice weight. The guard currently fitted is an official Fender AV tort guard, but the original mint guard is supplied. Strung with La Bella 760FS flats. Original case, covers and all case candy are present. The side dot markers on all of these are quite dark, so I have fitted Rosette Small Ivory Dots available here: https://www.rosetteguitarproducts.com/new-page-2 These don't involve any modification or glue, and the finish remains intact. They can simply be rubbed off if you don't like them, but I'll give the new owner the option to keep them or remove them. Alder body Maple C shaped neck (some nice figuring on the neck) Round-laminated rosewood fingerboard, 7.25" radius 1.74" nut width Bone nut American Vintage '63 Precision Bass Split Single-Coil 20 vintage style frets Vintage reverse tuners 3-ply mint green pickguard Chrome pickup and bridge covers, lower finger rest, clay-coloured dot inlays, auxiliary strap button on headstock American Vintage Bass bridge with Threaded Steel "Barrel" Saddles Vintage blonde case with red interior Case candy Weight: 4.04 kg / 8.9 lbs I'd prefer collection, or meet up, but will ship at a push for cost. Rob
  18. Always equal in bands that I have run myself. However, if I needed a dep for someone in the band on occasion, I would probably give them more after clearing it with the other members of the band. I have done gigs where every musician on the night gets £100 a man, but the band leader took vastly more. But it was more like a job, and to be fair, all expenses, travel and accommodation would be covered on top, even food. In that situation, the band leader owned the van, all the gear, and even the amps I was using. Plus all this was known about upfront. Rob
  19. I'm going to be a knob and ask about knobs. Two different sets are pictured. What comes with, and if it's the ones that look right, are they original? Rob
