Regarding the fan noise. The fan itself looks like a fairly standard fan you might find in a computer. If it is, then there should be multiple options for sourcing a higher quality and quieter fan to replace it. If someone can identify what fan it is, ie specs, then I'd be happy to try a replacement. My trade deal on this fell through, so here it is again. Great amp, with a great reputation. In perfect working order, excellent condition, includes Bergantino padded bag and comes in the original packaging. Collection preferred from Morecambe, but will ship to mainland UK, Parcelforce 24 fully insured. Edit: Will consider reasonable offers Rob

Don’t underestimate an Elf through a pair of BF One10’s. I have an Elf too, and ran it through those BF cabs and it was quite impressive what it could do.
-
Just to add, I am sympathetic to your predicament too. I had microdiskectomy and lumbar decompression surgery in 2016. I still have to be very careful what I do and what I lift. But, with exercise and judicious management, I’m able to do most things. Good luck with the back. Rob

Having also had a MB rig and BF 12’s and 10’s, I agree. The 10’s have it for me too. @SuperSeagull when I read your post, I immediately thought of a pair of BF One10’s and and amp of your choice. I also ran this setup for a while, and it never struggled. I’m now using a BF 3x10 for no other reason than because I can. Rob

We could, and perhaps should, do a whole thread on eq and gain settings on the RB series of amps. I’m a big fan of higher boost settings, around 2 o’clock is where I’m at, and I’m not playing rock, it’s blues on a P bass with flats. Rob
-
They don't sound like that to me. Everything at noon seems to be where flat is, when compared with other amps.

I am acutely aware of this fact.

Just bought two Mono bass sleeves from Pete, agreed a price, fast shipping, super condition on arrival. Cheers Pete. Rob

I'm going to say Phil Jones Bass Double Four too. It's a cracking bit of kit and sounds wonderful in the house. Note though that it can actually get quite loud for a home environment/neighbours. Ed Friedland actually gigs with his. Rob

I've just racked my Gallien-Krueger 400RB MK-I in a small and tidy 2U rack case, just big enough for it, and I've come over all 80's nostalgic like. It looks the bees knees, and is quite practical. I'm carrying a 400RB-II and 400RB-III in equipment cases at the moment, but it would be nice to rack those in the same cases. It's a very long shot, but does anyone know anyone with any rack ears/ends for the early 400RB MKI/II, or MK-III heads? Cheers, Rob

When I was selling my '87 PB-62, which I bought from Bass Bros, it was for sale on here for a while. Will did contact me and made me a very fair offer to buy it back. I thanked him and said I would bear it mind if it didn't sell. In the end I sold it for just £100 more than Will's offer. Rob

Hi Brian, I have an all original '73 Jazz, the rout on mine is not rounded like that. I think you'd need a lot more detail pics of the body disassembled to determine if it was right or not. Things like this do make me twitch. I'll try to post a pic of mine. Rob

Bergantino Forte D, price reduced to £625 - TRADED - *SOLD*

It's a little belter is that amp. I A/B it for fun with big expensive amps occasionally, and eyes closed, it definitely holds its own. I have gigged it with a BF One10 a couple of times. It was on the edge of being not enough, but it managed. Two One10's would have been great, or any cab at 4 ohms. It's my backup amp at the moment, and my cab is 4 ohms, so I have no worries at all that it would manage if I called upon it. Rob

I just quit a band a few weeks ago. I still like them as people and we are still friends, but I felt it was like a treadmill of rehearsals and no gigs. I checked my Google Calendar, and we'd done 48 rehearsals and nine gigs in 18 months. I bowed out gracefully, and even did some one-to-ones with my replacement to bring him up to speed. Don't burn those bridges. I'm now concentrating on the main band, one band, and it's a great band too. Lots of potential, immense talent, studio recordings already done, video done, website done. Way fewer rehearsals and way more achieved in a much shorter time. Happy days. Rob

So, the amp cull begins, there are too many. Here's the first, and arguably the best. Reasonable offers invited. Great great amp, powerful, articulate, open sounding. In perfect working order, excellent condition, includes Bergantino padded bag and comes in the original box. Collection preferred from Morecambe, but will ship to mainland UK, Parcelforce 24 fully insured. Edit: Reducing the price to £625. Rob

Oh dear. This has to stop. I'm done now, unless someone comes up with an 800RB...... Back in February @The fasting showman listed a 400RB MKI. It was one here for a while, a couple of months, and at that time, they weren't on my radar. This was before I had heard @shug with his amp at Ribble Valley Jazz & Blues Festival, and I knew I had to try one. Anyway, the amp got withdrawn before it sold. Very late last night I contacted Martin @The fasting showman, to see if he would reconsider his decision to withdraw the amp and sell it to me. "Perhaps" was the answer, but no postage. Then we realised he and his family were coming to stay in a cottage 12 minutes from my house, today!. The heavens aligned, and we met up this evening and the deal was done. We had a bit of a chinwag, much of which was in praise of these amps. @cetera I think Martin is still kicking himself over selling you his 800RB. So here we are, a MKI, MKII and a MKIII 400RB. I'm so chuffed I can't tell you. Rob

Erm, I can't really believe this myself, but I'm probably picking up a 400RB MK-I this evening from a member here. There have been crazy coincidences surrounding this, and I still won't believe it until it's in my hands. I'll keep you posted. And yes, I know, I'm hopeless. Rob

The 400RB-II was advertised here for quite a long time, months in fact. But it was collection only from Edinburgh. After a bit of back and forth, we agreed that I would arrange the courier, and it duly arrived. The 400RB-III has been on Reverb for about 6 months, so I put in some cheeky offers and again, after a bit of offer/counter offer, we agreed a price. The MKIII is superb too, very much a GK 400RB amp in the vein of the earlier one. I can get it to sound almost identical to the MK-II. Astonishingly, I have invested a grand total of £470 for BOTH amps inc. shipping. These represent my best value purchases ever. Rob

I have an Elf in the bag as backup. I have actually used it as my main amp on a couple of gigs. They were small walk in off public transport gigs, but it was fine. In terms of of tone, there’s not much between the Elf and anything else I own, it sounds great. The only thing I would say is that the fan is quite loud for home practice. It’s ok on a gig where you don’t notice it, but at home I couldn’t deal with it.
-
Ok, I've got them to sound almost alike tonight. All it took was a slight increase in low mid and bass on the MK-III, about 1 o'clock as opposed to flat. The Mk-III also needs to be higher on the input Volume to achieve the same level in the room, with both Masters set at noon. This could simply be differences in pot tapers as the MK-III is actually supposed to be louder in terms of wattage. I'm very happy with these. Who'da thunk it? Rob
