Richard Henry had that advertised in January as a SFC at £7.5k. I made enquiries then. Richard said it was straight and legit apart from the old refin, so I would take that as the truth, Richard is one of the good guys. Rob

I wasn't sure where to post this - gig or rehearsal thread, but it's felt more like a gig than a rehearsal. I've spent the weekend at Stonegate Recording Studios near Bentham North Yorkshire. We set up Friday night, and have done 10-6 Saturday and Sunday. This is the new blues band, with only one 45 minute gig under our belt so far, and this was for recording a few tracks to promote the band. We have really gelled as a unit, personally and musically, and it's been a really positive experience. The band leader does his job well, directs with without being over-bearing, and is a consummate musician, playing Hammond, Rhodes and Sax, and the drummer is one of the best I've ever played with, really exceptionally good. We managed to get down 6 tracks yesterday, without vocals and solos, which we've added today. We had a guy filming too yesterday, which we're hoping to sync with the recordings at some point. I took two 70's P basses and have played everything through my rebuilt '73 Bassman 50 and a Barefaced Super Compact, it was a great sound to me. When the tracks have been mastered I'll post some links up. Knackered now though! Rob

How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?
ossyrocks replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
We rehearsed last night, but it was a bit different to the usual in that we are preparing to go into a studio to set up tomorrow evening and then record all day Saturday & Sunday. These will be band promo tracks, but we also have two guys filming it to sync with the studio recordings and also to edit in footage they shot of our first gig in front of an audience last week. I'm sharing lead vocal duties in this band too, so we practiced my tunes last night without singing a word of vocal, to get the band really tight, and then I will overdub my vocal later. Very strange, but I definitely played better bass when I wasn't singing at the same time. I'm buzzing about this new band, we've got some nice gigs lined up, and everyone in the band gets on really well and is a great musician in their own right. I feel rather blessed. Rob -
So sorry to read this, having three children of my own, I can only imagine how you must be feeling. Condolences to you and you family @Gasman. Rob

The one in the link below will do both pickups, it's two pieces of foam with a spring in each. https://www.alegree.co.uk/products/precision-bass-height-foam

I have a lightweight PA that I haven't used in about 6 years. I was looking at it today and thinking I should sell it. It's a Fender Passport series. Not sure of the exact model, but I think it's about 500w. It used to be completely adequate for my little 3/4 piece band in pubs and small venues. I have stands for the speaker too. I'm sure we could come to an arrangement. Rob

Serial numbers can't be relied upon to date it. The pots will have date codes, as will the neck and the pickups. Lovely bass btw Rob

They do look like big frets!
-
Would you mind sharing a close up of the frets/binding/nut now it's been done? Also what wire did you settle on?
-
I'm still thinking about having my '73 Jazz done. The frets are virtually non existent now, but it still plays well. I'm worried that everything I like about this bass might disappear if I have it done!

A very clean looking Precision on ebay, claims it’s a ‘70. All the money though. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/226071016374?itmmeta=01HTCDSK1HZDD53PSGNBP8ZKC4&hash=item34a2e1f3b6%3Ag%3AFW8AAOSwMdpmCYfZ&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4Kzns0BN1vDtk6WmO1UsHk6TlCkwrdiEyWN8sgAszn22yxnxhWB1uuWev1e5KjiWmqPIB7YJE2OmN9ldLzvUWM8NrPV%2FNZcJIwIby9guYuKP71KJrwgN2MY9zGWz7gZZtIMunoLfNgcpQiYjSExNCrlyGvDOFa3INFNg6Xp%2FlrT%2BD7%2FNxnNSPECS4bR%2BRdc560WI1ESsVORJzWR1ZW6x4%2Bs2g3QSH6pzM7BME%2BfNUbxadbZOp3Y9H1k4QqxaNIS8AjW%2FtOYrDwKmrrG5nDiri7KbpOViNZv8klvuARPyDe5m|tkp%3ABk9SR_aw5o3TYw&LH_ItemCondition=4 Rob

These drums are made by a guy very near where I live in Lancaster. A good number of drummers round here have his kits. Our drummer probably has two full kits of them, and there’s one in our rehearsal space too. They are well regarded amongst the local drumming fraternity. Dave does unusual things too, there’s a kit like a Russian doll, and it all goes into each other, down to the last (very heavy) drum.

"Fender P-Bass from 1976 in great condition with lovely authentic patina. I fitted a tortoise-shell scratch-plate and strap-locks but all the original parts are included. Frets show signs of use but have plenty of life left. Works as it should and sounds great. Fender fitted case included. More pics available. Located in Lancashire, England."

I loved Northern Exposure! Back in the mid 90's I used to work all over the place and I spent a month at Microsoft headquarters in Seattle one December. The place they filmed the show was about 80 miles away, so I took a drive over at the weekend, ate breakfast in the Roslyn Cafe, checked in the radio station etc. it was magic. It was supposed to be Alaska, but it was actually Washington State. I also visited the town where they filmed Twin Peaks on that trip. Rob

I know the seller. Graham is a lovely and very honest guy, I've known him for over 30 years. Deal with confidence.

It was the first gig of the new blues band last night - The Out and Out Blues band - https://theoutandouts.com/ The Gregson Centre in Lancaster, four bands on, fundraiser for the Gregson and Lancaster Music Co-op. We were first on at 7.30pm and did a 45 minute set. A decent crowd, and very appreciative, we went down very well, and I even got them singing with us at the end, at 8.15pm! The other bands were great too, and there was a lot of comradery amongst the musicians. I used someone else's rig, Mark Bass 1x12 combo with a 2x10 extension cab, with my '73 P Bass. We were very pleased with our performance, and it's probably the best "1st gig" I've ever played. Now we have to work up the rest of the tunes for our first full 2 set gig on the 18th. Rob (edit: now with a pic!)

Is my bullet truss rod okay? AVRI 75 JAZZ
ossyrocks replied to Robert Manning's topic in Repairs and Technical
I'm no expert, but if the rod hasn't broken and the neck isn't cracked then you're probably ok. I have the exact same bass too, also from 2003. I got mine a couple of months ago from @walshy of the Vintage Bass Room. They are lovely. Congrats. Rob -
I have indeed, all band gigs are bass now. I do the very occasional unusual guitar gig, the last being "Alien: The Musical" at West End Playhouse in Morecambe a few weeks ago. A four show run including a Saturday matinee. It was an absolute hoot to do. I am also soon to be playing guitar for a 15 year old young woman for her Youtube channel, performing her latest tune alongside other musicians from the Playhouse. One of her offerings has had half a million views! The guitar playing side is more just helping out with community stuff, my main focus for myself is bass. Just back home from the second band rehearsal today! Jazz band afternoon, blues band evening, gig on Friday.

Ahh no, SC staying home that weekend. I'm planning to use the Bergantino with two ONE10's, as I can use just one of the cabs for my quieter gig on the Friday at Holmes Mill. Sorry Shug. I know you love a big rig, I'm not sure a single SC would cut the mustard for you.
-
Is anyone from here playing over the weekend? I'm not sure how I have managed it, but I have three gigs at the festival this year. Friday night at Holmes Mill with Katoush (instrumental jazz). Then two on Sunday, 2.00pm Aspinall Arms and 7.00pm Rose & Crown with The Out & Out Blues Band. I do know that @shug is at the Rose & Crown on Sunday evening because he's on after us. We've decided to make a weekend of it, so we're staying Friday to Monday in Clitheroe. Rob

Yes. Martin Garton who did my Bassman does it sometimes. You can dismantle CTS pots into all their component parts, clean each part and reassemble. I’ve never had to do it with a guitar though.

I enjoyed it because I love 70’s Precision’s, and have a couple quite like the one in the video. I’m fairly confident with my own setups and soldering and could do everything he did with that one except the fret dressing and the nut. I’d love to learn those skills though, but I’d need a decent workspace and some quite expensive tools, and I just can’t justify it given how much work I would actually do. We do have a workshop, but it’s become my wife’s “woman cave” and is now a ceramics studio with a big kiln in it! I’ll look into that cleaning method. I have perfected the opposite process ironically, ie aging metal parts for relic projects. Rob

I enjoyed that thanks. My toes curled when he started snipping all the wiring off though. I wonder if that was really necessary? I’ve never had to break down a pot yet. CAIG Deoxit has always worked for me. Question. What was the thing he put all the metal parts into to take the rust off, and what was the solution he used in it? Rob
