1. Not sure if youve seen this... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/270173-buy-an-amp-get-bass-guitar-free/page__pid__2884456#entry2884456
2. wow, that was err, different? gorgeous looking bass though, anybody any idea what it is?
3. This Thread is the first ive ever heard of them, checked them out and spent yesterday listening at work, I like a lot, Thanks
4.
Give Ashdown a shout, their customer service is amazing!

Can vouch for that - always had good, timely replies from them just by using their website 'contact us' form...
And another thumbs up from me, been fantastic help the few times ive needed them
5. I have a the james lemenzo hyperdrive ashdown pedal and i really like that, you have a real variation from low end fuzz to a really high end valve growl. Not had much experience with the nate mendal but i can reccomend the Ashdown pedal range.
6. Thanks all, ill have a look at the different suggestions. .
im a great lover of multi effects i have a zoom b3 which great all round but i also have a line6 m5 and m13 and they are amazing, the distortions are aimed more towards guitar so not great but everything else is great. matched with a nice distortion or overdrive you could do everything with the m13.
The zoom seems to get a lot of support on here and tbf it does look like a great pedal for the money. im toying with the idea of getting this with the expression pedal as stated above and buying a decent loop station at a later date. However, The m13 also looks a really impressive pedal... Am I right in thinking that the different switches get assigned individual effects so acts as a pedalboard type setup rather than switching up and down through effects? Also with its loop settings, are you able to save loops and recall back on them from memory like a loop station or is it just for jamming and they get lost when you switch off? Seen a lot of good demos whilst browsing on youtube of the loop setting but cant seem to work this out? Thanks again for everyones help, im hoping to get down to PMT in the next few weeks and have a play on a few.
7. Budget wise, im not sure how much the gt10b or line 6 sold for when new so im sort of going off spec rather than price, the M13 seems quite similar spec but ill have a good look later, i quite like the loop feature which i dont think is on the xt live but is on the gt10b. thanks for the suggestions so far ill check them all out
8. Evening all, I'm looking for some Good recommendations for a decent multi effects unit similar to the Line 6 Bass pod Xt live or the Boss GT10B? These are two i quite like the spec on but they don't seem to be very easy to come by? I've seen the Rocktron B300 Utopia on Thomann that after a brief look seems fairly close spec to the line 6 but i've never heard of them and wondered if anybody have any experience with them? A new project is going to require some quite heavy effects and I want a decent effects unit i can use whilst writing and doing some live stuff as well as having the USB interface for home recording. I also know a lot of people will say to steer clear and stick to individual stompboxes but for what i'm after a multi effects will be better due to the variety its going to give me whilst experimenting, Just need some advice on a decent unit to look at. Thanks Alex
9. I tend to find if i run either of my distortion or overdrive pedals there okay, but as soon as i try and run them with a compression pedal they seem to start hissing at me, im sure theres an intelligent reason for this but shouting at them hasnt solved it yet, ill keep trying
10. Haven't seen these before this thread, very impressed
11.
Don't over think this. You might find you'll play a 5er for 10 mins and hate it. I'd probably get the Squier but the Sire will be a good instrument and will probably be easier to sell if you don't get on with 5 strings.
yeah this is very true, my thinking was just to get some alternative ideas incase there was anything id missed, i tend to find whatever basses 4 or 5 i like i always come back to looking at jazzes anyway so id imagine ill end up getting the squier or sire in the end , but like i said i need plenty of time to change my mind over and over again 😂
12.
I got my Spector Spectorcore new for under £500 but you have to hunt for one. Brilliant quality but the Spector Performer 5 is readily available sub £400 one eBay. Spectors knock spots off Fenders and there cheaper subsidiaries - and I own both!
I do quite like the Spector stuff, i saw Don Broco a couple of months back and his looked great, however i think ive read they have quite long necks? Any truth?
13. Cheers all, im really liking the look of the Sire v7, read a lot of good stuff on here too Like i said itll be a couple of months i think so i think ill take a trip down to PMT in Brum to try and have a go on some of the others mention 😁
14.
Sire Marcus Miller V7. Best money I've spent in a long long time. Hadn't heard much bad about them before, and now I have one I know why. A great bass at ANY money, but a total steal at the price. Like mine more and more every time I pick it up.
Just had a brief look and they look great at first glance... Although i thought Miller was endorsed by Fender?... I really need to catch up haha 😂
15.
I have one of the newer Squire 'Vintage Modified' basses and it's a real cracker for the money. There is very little difference between the Squire basses and some of the cheaper MIM/MIA if you ask me. Perhaps the biggest difference I have noticed is that many of the Squire range are a little heavier perhaps due to less picky choosing of the woods. I'd certainly be more than happy to use a Squire as a serious gigging bass these days. As to other options out there, here are a few to consider: * The Ibanez SR range are very well made basses and the pricing is amazing on them. The necks are too skinny for my taste but lots of folks love them: http://www.thomann.d...ez_sr305ipt.htm * Close to the top end of your budget is this Ibanez BTB from Classic and Cool - wonderful basses by all accounts and quite a bit more meaty than the SR range: http://classicandcoo...zbtb5string.htm * Yammaha do the TRBX 5-string that is well within your budget and folks around here seem to have nothing but praise for them: http://www.thomann.d...rbx_305_car.htm * It's worth mentioning the Harley Benton range by Thomman too. They are very affortable ( >£100!) and I'd honestly say they are competative with Squire basses. If you manage to get one on the 'Deco Only' offers they are even cheaper. Depending on the model you can sometimes find them for as little as ~£30 plust P&P. The one weakness with these is that the Pick-Ups / Electronics are a bit tame but then at that price you could afford some pretty tastey new ones and still have change compared to the price of a new Squire: http://www.thomann.d...ies_b_stock.htm * Finally, at the other end of the spectrum there are the Maruszczyk basses. I play one myself and utterly love it as do quite a few other folks around here (check out threads by McNash and WaterOfTyne for some nice details on them as well as the 'official club' thread). They're a little more than your budget but Adrian does offer a few at discounted rates not and then if they've been used for trade-show demos etc. so it is well worth checking them out: http://www.public-pe...red-burst090091 Edit: added links to example basses
Thanks ill have a look at some of them you've mentioned. I have a Harley Benton MM copy 4 string, It plays nice enough. However, I had the opposite problem with the pickups that they were so hot i could not play the thing live without getting some major feedback (Ive always wanted to fit some new ones but never got around to it), But i may have a look just for something cheap to play at home until i can get round to getting something else. My main bass i've used for years is an MIM jazz bass so id imagine id probably find the Squier's to be fine. The VMJ stuff looks really nice. Thanks
16. This looks a great deal, I've looked a couple of times to try and find the catch but i think its just a genuine good deal. Must resist pessimism

5er

Evening all, Not sure if this has already been discussed but I've been neglecting all things musical as of late (approx 2 years). The good news is, After my break my musical side is fully re-fuelled and inspired... The bad news is I have returned with major GAS for a 5 string. I have been browsing the market and looking at basses and really like the look of the SUB V as I've always wanted a MM, However.. Today i came across the Squier Dimension Deluxe V and really like the look. I've read some stuff on here that leads me to believe Squire are no longer the Argos Stocked brand I thought they were and that some of their newer stuff is half decent. I've never seen the Dimension before and wondered if anybody has any experience with them? Also any other suggestions for a decent 5 string around the £300-£500 sort of range would be welcome. I'm getting married in November so it'll be a few months before i get one but i have to allow myself enough time to change my mind at least 15 times Cheers
18. I think thats the best looking Corvette ive ever seen!
19. Also as far as transport goes, rope in your mates, Youll be surprised how much kit you can hang off your body and arms when cramming on to a train!
20. In my experience of playing these sort of shows when i was gigging this sounds nothing out of the ordinary. its aggravating as hell but its just the way it goes really. I always found it was generally the headline band that lent out the majority of the kit i.e drums (except breakables), and amps/cabs. best bet is just to take your own head if youve got one and ask to run through the cab, if not wouldnt worry, be polite and grateful and generally people are happy to lend kit aslong as you treat it right and dont assume that youll be using it regardless. A lot of the time wed end up taking full backline and leaving what we didnt need backstage/ in the corner of the club because the promoter was useless. wouldnt worry too much 90% of the time as it'll all change on the night in terms of gear lending, and being a bass player worst case scenario youll be straight through the PA (which will either lead to an awful night for you or a fantastic sound depending upon the soundguy and rig etc). I'ts all part of the fun of being in an unsigned band, Embrace it generally (IMO) most promoters havent got a clue, youll suss out the good venues and good promoters and end up cutting out the useless ones.
21. wow! what a restoration! thats gorgeous!
22. I used to have a Hartke head and it was the thinnest sound ever! ran it with Hartke cabs too which weren't too bad once I changed the head up!
