1.
Loud and proud today. The bass player on before me had his two Ampeg 410's throught the PA. I was not jealous. My tshirt was bigger than his rig (EBAY order after the pub
In fairness, that is a BIG t shirt!
2. Quality of pick ups is a big game changer too mate. I bought a Seymour Duncan pup for a P bass build and the sound off it is awesome. Plenty of bass from that bad boy .
3. Have you tried raising the neck pick up on the Jazz? Just a thought that maybe its set too low in the body
4. I HAVE to use stainless strings as I get an allergic reaction to nickel. for years I used Elites and then I found Rotosound did stainless as well and much cheaper, so I changed and havent looked back. I have not tried lots of others , so cant really comment on the pros and cons of each but the Roto's are spot on for me
5. Im fair looking forward to getting mine as soon as its ready. The Genz ticks all the boxes apart from weight
6. Great gig in a new place in Fort William. Went down well and stayed sober for a change
7.
I've run a 100 gauge down to B..... and it was doable but you need a clean sound to start with as a poor dull string with not cope well down there sound-wise. The tension is going to be pretty loose as well... but for a single song you might get away with it. But you are now in 5st territiory and once you need to do that for a few songs, you might just as well suck up and get a proper bass for it...
Agreed because the sound of the B string is a big part of a 5 stringer. It opens up a whole new world of sound from your 4 string
8.
Just had a look . No doubt ardent Rush fans will snap this latest offering up , just like everything else they do , but to my sensibilities this business with adding a string section smacks of desperation to try and inject some novelty into procedings to try and sell a few more DVDs . The simple fact is that if you've seen them play Spirit Of Radio , you've seen them play Spirit Of Radio . The something really important missing from most of Rush's music for the last couple of decades , namely enough decent songs to make an album , and if I were them I would go away and have a serious think about whether it was really a fitting end to such a monumental band's career to become a prog rock cabaret show that does the circuit between sub-standard recordings . This is , after all , Rush . Could and should do better .
I couldnt agree less. Clockwork Angels is a great album, but then its all down to individual taste innit?
9. Keep it man, one should never sell ones gear off. You could sell some of the wifes jewellery before selling your gear
10.
Old Geddy's voice seems a bit weird these days. Almost like a squawk before he hits notes proper.
Give him a break, hes getting on a bit. I think he does pretty good
11.
You are seriously overestimating how much people are going to look at you. You are the bass player!!!
But Im the singer too, so there!
12.
I like bacon and egg sandwiches best.....
Bacon, sausage and egg, then you can have a heart attack in a bun
13. I had an ebm distortion pedal and was very happy, but I tried after hearing about the Ashdown distortion, I decided to try it, and wow, what a beast it is, I wont look back !
14. Who gives a f*** where your pinky lives? If you are happy playing and you don't suffer, then keep doing it , yer doin it right !
15. I switch between the two styles regularly in order to get the right sound but I admit I'm more at home with finger style although my sound is pretty toppy , so I only need the pick for a sharp attack . I don't see any way in which one is better than the other, it's just your taste or the sound of who you are trying to mimic
16. We played at a private party in a barn that stunk to high heavens of horse sh*t (there were horses in it 6 hours before) The stage was a shaky affair set up on pallets. The wiring was very shoddy. My bass amp kept clipping and cutting out. Still dont know what was causing it. Eventually, I had to just plug straight into the desk and hope that I could hear the PA. I hated the sound but everyone seemed to be happy and we handed out loads of cards. A good night after a lot of problems, so all in all , a success
17. You can buy turntables these days that connect to your pc, so its all possible with minimum outlay
18. These days a reasonably cheap iPod docking station will sound easily as good as the old stereos of yesteryear. I have a Sony docking station with radio and cd player which is attached to my computer and my music sounds great. A fraction of the cost of my old monster hi fi system!
19.
Given that flats last forever, you may need to re-calibrate concepts like "expensive".
Sorry, but I disagree that flats last forever. Its all down to taste and I find flats go off just as quick as rounds. I just love the new sound of strings, even flats
20.
A P doesn't have as much bass as say the neck pup on jazz. What it has is low mids, which sound like "bass sound" but are actually higher freq - if something about the set up, the amp eq or the cab flattens out this low mid bump then it would sound like it had little bottom end.
You think so do you? I have 2 Jazzes and 2 P's and the P basses have loads of bottom end, much more so than the J's
21.
Hello! What bass are you using?
you ARE joking surely? I mean BOTH pictures on the OP's post have Ricks
22. +10 to moving the pick up height. I have found a HUGE difference by just a tweak of a screw. I find it strange that you cant find enough low end from a P bass , because they are renowned for their low end. much more so than a GL Jazz, therefore, I surmise that you must alter the pup height in relation to your strings. Get the D+G side lower and raise the A+E, then low is at your disposal. Sorry if this sounds a bit condescending, but I really am struggling to comprehend how a P bass can be not giving enough "bottom"
23. I think they are gorgeous geetars, havent had the pleasure of owning one, only a cheap Epiphone, which was pretty sh*te to be honest. I would love a real Gibsahn
24.
Total respect..thats all..
This in heaps!
