1. I bought it a couple of weeks ago but only got around to string it up today. I found it very enjoyable. Took me a couple of goes to get my head around it but then I was flying! I have only recently started suing bad again after a 35 year break and already know the basics but I reckon a complete novice could pick this up and start learning straight away. Not a real substitute for a teacher though, as it doesn't give you the same feedback or tell you off when you don't use your pinky on those hard to reach frets. Good buy though.
2. Chris is a great tutor. I have been torturing his eardrums for a few weeks and he hasn't tried to kill me yet. In fact my technique and grasp of the fundamentals have improved drastically in the last couple of months. He has a wealth of knowledge and the patience of a saint, as well as the biggest collection of basses I have ever seen. Top man!
3. I had never heard of a Chapman Stick before reading your introduction. What an awesome bit of kit! I have just been watching the Stick Night video on the company website, featuring your good self Kevin. It sounds amazing and so versatile. Of course I could never play such an instrument. My brain is too slow and I have the manual dexterity of a Blue Whale.
4. I would have to keep it well away from my bass. Whatever it's got could be contagious.
5.
Ooh, hang on, check his other items - he's got some nicer ones http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Flame-Guitar-squire-neck-/230973051950?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item35c711142e#ht_42wt_1193
I find this one in particular very disturbing. I don't think I would feel safe with it in the house.
6. That is one nice looking bass .
7. Many decades ago in my student days a mate of mine spent the night in a cell and was fined for being drunk in charge of the bicycle he was pushing along the pavement. I had just handed it back to him when the rozzers came round the corner. Mind you he was very p*ssed. Not as p*ssed as he was when he got the fine though.
8. I bought one a couple of weeks ago (just before the price hike :-)) and love it. I am a born again novice so that is where my review is coming from. Compared to the old semi's I played in my distant youth it is so much easier to play . I have never played another fender so can't compare like with like though. The quality and finish appear faultless an it seems to stay in tune well. I find I can adjust the pickup mix to whatever sound I want through blues to Motown to heavy rock to punk. The neck is dead straight. The action is good with no fret buzz and I don't have to press too hard on the strings even when I am playing the bass solo from alright now on the 19th fret of the g string. My only complaint is that it is wearing my finger tips away, because I can't put the damn thing down. Oh, and it looks really cool!
9. Actually, that pic is a bit crap. I might have to put another up soon. Too knackered at the moment though.
10. Had my first lesson in decades today courtesy of dudewheresmybass Well worth his very reasonable rates. Everything is coming back to me. Thanks for the help Chris, I will see you next week.
11.
Btw the thing on the left is not a butt plug, the car has the weird easyfuel thing with no fuel cap, the tube is for emergency fillups or additives, not sexual doings!
Oh that's what it's for! I had better take mine out of the bedroom and put it back in the car then.
12. I had 2 Ford Focus estates before I took up bass again. So may be the title if this thread should be " Why do so many Ford Focus owners play bass?" Mind you I got my first one because my youngest daughter was still at Uni. I was able to fit her drumkit and all her other crap in it at the end of the year.
13. Welcome from the sunny side of the estuary.
14. Pity I live at the other end of the country. I am another beginner who would like to play sh!te with somebody else.
15. Just been watching the video, Al. Great stuff.
16. Don't know about videos, as I am re-learning but I will take some pics and stick em up.
17. I bought a Modern Player Jazz Bass last week for £410.00 from Dawson. The same guitar is £428.00 today. Looks like its an across the board increase.
18. Hi and welcome. You are just down the road from me. I live in Gravesend. I will look out for your band.
19. The bass and amp arrived yesterday. Just waiting for the all important lead so I can plug it in. Sounds great unplugged though. I have been grabbing riffs off the Internet left right and centre. Happy as a pig in sh!t :-)
20. I hope I will be able to get to a much higher standard than I achieved when I was younger. Because I was crap! Welcome :-)
21. Well the strap arrived today so that's a start. It's going to be like unwrapping a very well wrapped present one layer a day. Bass and amp due to arrive tomorrow, case, lead and stand on Wednesday. Can't wait to start rumbling :-)
