1.
On another forum this same topic came up, and one member said he thought Clayton was bad because of the bassline to the song "40". Naively, I pointed out that it wasn't Clayton on the bass for that song, and the guy replied saying he knew that. So this genius had formed an opinion of a bassist on the basis (sorry!) of a line he didn't play.
Some songs only need a simple line.
2. I don't see how anyone could rate Adan Clayton as a poor bass player. OK he's not a soloist or slapper, but he's probably one of the most melodic bassists out there.
3. A couple of my dad's friends have a function band that solely use PA & some foldback. No amps, cabs or combos to be seen. They sound good too. So the answer to your Q is - if you're putting your bass through the PA, then you just need a monitor. Unless the amp/cab/combo is part of your sound. Then you either DI from the amp or mic it up if the cab forms your sound.
4.
I have considered the same... But must resist
Does the MP201 have an Exp in? If you can plug the HH into it then you have a lot of possibilities.
5. I read that interview but couldn't watch the vids (IIRC I read it at work). I'd like to add a HH3 to my board & use it on the mf101's cutoff.
6. You could take a stereo to 2 mono jacks & just plug one channel into the amp.
7.
What specifically are you referring to?
The embedding bit? Usually when I paste a YT link, it automatically embeds the video on here. But for some strange reason, it wont. Still worth clicking on the links & enjoying them if you're into great sounds with fx (OK, I know there's a few BCers who already get excellent sounds).
8. I was having a listen to some Miloopa on Youchoob & noticed Bond doing this, so I thought I'd share... https://www.youtube....h?v=-91QEjyjAgc & then shortly after, I found John Davis doing something equally as cool (which is over a year old & no idea how I missed it!)... https://www.youtube.com/v=oCdb3_TPnQ4 OK, why aren't they embedding?
9. I've got a Vox Standard from @ '83. Here's what it originally looked like (not my actual bass)... & here's what it looks like now (my actual bass)... I stripped it & sprayed it metallic purple when I was a teenager & then a couple of years ago I started to restore it as a fretless but haven't had time to get any further than what you see there. They weigh about the same as an Ampeg 8x10 with added concrete.
10. Cool & quirky tune you have there. I bet that gets folk dancing.
11.
Peatbog Faeries?
Good call!
12. Time for a wee update... It can be a slow process starting a new band, but I'm slowly getting there. So far I've managed to get a drummer (who's only 18, but if he's good, who cares), a guitarist (or 3) and a singer. We're all keen on Acid Jazz, Breakbeat, Soul, Funk & Drum n Bass. So far it's only been email communication, but hoping to get a meet up with everyone soon & I've popped a couple of ads for keys & other musicians. So here's hoping. I'll update when we get together & have our first jam.
13. Glad someone's popped it on tinterweb. I've only got Apple TV so I can watch this on Vimeo later!
14. Just buy the iPad & be done with it. You can get some awesome music software for it too & Animoog & all the Korg software are 1/2 price until the New Year!
15. I think the quality of the tunes here are geting better every month. I thought I had a good contender until I listened to all the others & I'm well impressed by you guys! Gonna be a tough decision this month.
16. I agree with the above few posts. Sell it & get something lighter. Have a look at the Ibanez Promethian (or the Harley Benton version) if you have a limited budget. Or you could look in the 2nd hand section on here. There was a MarkBass LM2 for @ £275 & build your own cab (maybe a BFM).

Zoom 708ii

I'm not totally sure what you're talking about, but I used to have a Zoom 708ll & whilst it's a good pedal to introduce you to effects, there's newer & better out there. If you're looking to stay with multi effects, then Zoom & Line6 both have a good selection of units, as do a few others.
18. It puts a whole new slant on the phrase "playing with one's twanger"!
19. I had a Trace Elliott 4x10 combo. Big heavy overrated underpowered thing. Got a Markbass 2x10 combo & it's about 10 times louder, sounds 100 times better & is 1000 times lighter (44kg)! But then, like JTUK says... Do you like the TE sound that you have? I'd go shopping & try some stuff out first.
20. That looks like a sad thing to do. Maybe he should try an Ampeg plexi bass?

Passive basses

A few Ibanez basses have active/passive switching. Mine did until I decided to rip the pre out of it (I broke it) & now it's just passive. Still sounds great & the signal is the same level as it was when in active mode.
... what kind of passive bass, and what would it do that a fender can't?
That's easy! Look good.
22. I'm another Flat convert. Don't know why I didn't try them yonks ago! I went for Tomastic Infeld Jazz strings.
23. Riders on the storm by The Doors used to be a regular when I first took up bass & it's still good fun. Never realised it was the same age as me!
24.
I know I can link my bass up to the PC through my pedal, I'm sure we have a microphone of some description here. My issue is other instruments (drums, keys etc).
Download Reaper. You get an unrestricted free trial of it & you can download plenty of free VST instruments in the sticky at the top of this forum section (here). Once you get your head around using a DAW, things are easy.
25.
Mate I honestly cannot wait till i have my music room up & running ! so I can record the Upright bass through the Big muff/Synth & expression pedal set up I have. I swear mate, it shows up on the richter scale !!!! Doooom!!!!
Now that I am looking forward to hearing!
