NS basses: Fretless Radius and CR4M Both sold!

If there ever will be an olympic gold medal for packaging technique, Raslee's wife truly deserves it. The Skyline Decade arrived safe and sound. I've never seen such amount of bubble plastic wrap... Nice guy (or couple) to deal with. Highly recommended!!! Thanx for a swift affair! //Roger the Bass Mayhem

Buy my two NS basses, a fretless Radius 4 string and a CR4M electric upright. The Radius is never gigged, as new. The EUB is some 8-9 years old and very gigged, but in condition as new. Comes with additional endpin conversion kit and "real" upright strings, not the flimsy originals. More pic's on demand. Can be shipped on buyer's expense.

I quote myself from another thread: "I got a cheap but very good plywood doghouse I bought to start playing rockabilly on. It has Innovation Silver Slaps (they cost more than I paid for the bass) and my old Realist Copperhead. I plug it into my Fishman Platinum Pro Eq, and it makes wonder!" A cheap bass CAN sound good, but if you stack "cheap stuff" you might end up sounding cheap, and then it won't be fun to play. My expensive bass sounded like sh*t with the Realist, so I get another pup for that one. The Realist is easy to use; if you have adjustable bridge there is also the Realist LifeLine...

I got a cheap but very good plywood doghouse I bought to start playing rockabilly on. It has Innovation Silver Slaps (they cost more than I paid for the bass) and my old Realist Copperhead. I plug it into my Fishman Platinum Pro Eq, and it makes wonder!!! You have the high pass filter, the notch filter to eliminate feedback and howling wolf notes, as well as a phase switch that makes a good deal of sense. A good thing with the Platinum is that you have built-in tuner and compressor. Also a four band eq with sweepable mid. A nice pedal that makes my cheapo Mickey Mouse upright sound good. Not just ok, but really good. I have my all wooden bass that I don't take out to rock gigs, but it has no pickup right now. I am certain it will sound fantastic when I equip it with a Realist Lifeline, since its acoustic tone is big and full with a firm nice bottom(!)... Try the Platinum Pro if you have the chance! I have the Basswitch too, another really good preamp, but it has no notch filter.

My new Temple Audio board with the pedals mounted. No cables yet...
Lots to consider, but I'd second the TKS 12's or 2x12.
I totally agree. But - I'd rather have two S112's than one S212 for mobility's sake...
How did the Magellan perform?
Very well! Clear as an icy sky and loud as a freight train. I just say: I like it!

My upright doesn't like the Realist...
bassmayhem replied to bassmayhem's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Thanks for all feedback! I forgot to say, I use the new Fishman Platinum Pro Eq wit notch filter, phase switch and high pass filter, but none of these could cope with the "howling barking dog" midrange produced. I have moved the Realist to another bass; if the tone still sounds as horrible, then there must be some pickup malfunction. The story will continue... -
The tone gets very... burpy and ugly with the Realist. The bass - a solid tonewood bass - has a big, full and rich tone acoustically, just like what you (read: I) like to hear from a bass used in jazz music. Nice attack and nice growl! A tone to die/kill for! The only thing I can think is that the pickup is malfunctioning in some way. To my question: anyone out there who can recommend another type of pickup? (I have a non adjustable bridge.) Or - is there a good microphone I can use that won't make so much problems in a live situation? The bass is a relatively new - just four years - Kremona Masterbuilt that was custom made for the previous owner: 4/4 scale on 3/4 body. It takes some stretching, since the scale is 110 cm (43.3"), but the tone is worth every stretch... I have Evah Pirazzi "Weich" on the bass now...

Some love for the NS boomerang strap!

Can you adjust the bass high enough if you are 6' 2" ? I got the impression the bass will hang too low. (Nut at "just above eyebrow" height...) -

I just bought a second hand plywood bass from a friend, a bass he equipped with height adjustable bridge. My aim is to use the bass for practicing slap bass and use it on gigs where I cannot/won't bring my wooden bass. Anyway, it is a real bargain; the bass sounds great, is well taken care of, serviced by a pro luthier, plays great and cost me £165(!!!). This was a good affair...

Definitely! The Streamliner is the "oddest" of them, kinda like a tube/valve amp without the weight. The Magellan takes the best of both the Max and the Streamliner into a small easy to use package. The Max has its points too, especially the ability to drive two 4 ohm cabs, and some finesse with the twin channels and their separate effect loops.

I kinda like these lightweight amps... Premier use of the Magellan 800 will be on Sunday. Can't wait...

"Could you turn your backline down a bit ? "
Indeed - much my preferred method. Although many of the garage warriors don't have access to a decent PA when they play down the Tickled Trout. Knowing what I know now, investing in decent PA is where the greatest gains can be achieved for a band. Although, as stated back in the thread, nobody really seems to want to invest in PA.
I have thoughts of getting this by myself and let the band rent it every gig: http://www.youtube....h?v=YgNHS-pBu0Y http://www.youtube....h?v=keUtck_F7es -

The only bass players that "need" high volume wall of sound are the "garage warriors". On stage nowadays - as long as you have massive PA support and good monitors - it is totally unnecessary, more or less eyes delight. You aren't allowed to crank the amp to get "your tone" anyway. We have a very fine concert hall in town; next time I play there I'll only bring my tuner, my bass(es), my wireless, my compressor and my Avalon U5... -
Genzler Amplification Magellan 800 - now released!
bassmayhem replied to Ghost_Bass's topic in Amps and Cabs
Well, how many of us play at full volume? None, I hope. I don't care if the volume is full half way up, like "a little goes a long way", or if I have to crank the knob all way around. I never go that far anyway. As long as the amp sounds good I'm satisfied. -

Well: delivered! Really nice amp, fat like a Streamliner and clarity like the Shuttles... -
