Interesting reaction.... I've never liked them much. I usually say that just before I buy something -
All the marques you list do P bass variants.
Grrrr.... You know what I mean... there's quite a number of makes that are very popular around here whose main business is "bigging up" the venerable Jazz. It just seems quite predictable although possibly a very safe business move. Are players really so conservative? -
Because the Jazz bass is so versatile and is pretty much a do it bass with the right preamp in it
Fair enough.... but the body shape too? -
That's it really... why is it so special that there are a whole bunch of high-end manufacturers making faithful copies of the Jazz only four times the price. I'm thinking of the likes of Celinder, Sadowsky etc. in particular, but Overwater do one, as do Shuker and so on. What's going on? You don't get three grand copies of the precision everywhere you look
Cant see it paying. The guy that owns CC Music in Glasgow (cant remember his name) sells 10 guitars (cue some Engelbert) to each bass he sells. Also, you`ve got guitarguitar and Merchant city who have decent stock and prices. Of course I could be wrong, mabye people don`t like the above mentioned shops. Jez
Steve something? Much as I like CC and they are just around the corner from my work, they have a very limited selection of basses - mostly lower end. GuitarGuitar is very good though - it's choc full of high end stuff and they've always managed to do me a very good deal. Good luck, as they say, but it wouldn't be me either.
Found this elswhere. Hello all Need a bit of help/input. I am opening a shop in the southside of Glasgow and yes its a bass shop! As far as i am aware there are no specialist shops for us in Scotland and i find the range available in most instrument shops to be somewhat lacking, i intend to sell through the shop but also online to the rest of the country and should have delearships in place to cover everyone from beginners to pros, question i need some input for are 1) Would you welcome a specialist bass shop in Scotland 2) How often would you anticipate using it 3) Are you more likely to visit the shop or order online? 4) How much (roughly) do you spend on bass gear, accesories etc per year 5) What would you most like to see in the shop. If you can answer any of these it would be a great help either here or by email to thanks in advance jj
I'm still waiting for this shop we keep hearing about to open

Well if you are going through a PA, what does the bass sound come out of, eh?
-
If it's any help (and it isn't) I haven't got the slightest idea either. I have always set everything flat and hoped for the best. As was said above, playing pubs means that I rarely get the chance to set up anyway. Despite a lot of in depth talk about getting "your sound" in a live situation a decent bass with a powerful enough rig tends to be good enough at worst with flat settings IMHO. My Ashdown amp has buttons to bypass the 7 band eq, the sub harmonic thingy and the valve drive whatsit. They stay bypassed as I have no idea what they do and they don't make things sound any different to me so I strongly suspect that the audience will notice even less. The thing that matters is the nearly 600W If you are going through a PA or in a studio situation there's a guy behind the desk - and the eq is his problem. That's what he's paid for. Let the abuse begin
Don't see why not. It'll mean neck/body serial numbers don't correspond, but I don't imagine another prospective buyer would be overly concerned about that.
Ok.... I'm just testing the water a bit here but is a (blue) TRB4ii of any interest to you?
Yes, I did feel better for making my feelings clear on this. Though I did feel a bit bad for being the one who let the side down. The overall result was "we can't do this gig because SP doesn't want to" whereas I would have preferred it to have been "we can't do this gig because SP makes a compelling argument why we should not." Not for want of trying. S.P.
But the end result is that you'll be sat in your house with a beer watching X-factor and not getting really stressed out playing a gig you don't want to do to five people who don't care. Honestly, sometimes you just have to be that bastard who wants it his own way. Saying 'yes' to everything results in counselling sessions for anxiety (for real in my case). Learn to say 'no' and not care

I've been in a vaguely similar situation. You rarely have so much to loose that you can't lay down the line. Mine was, "you have to check with me before confirming a gig. If you don't, then I'm not available". Don't be vague and don't be wishy-washy. If something is not acceptable to you, say so. You'll feel better
-
Mmmm..... I don't think it matters if all you can do is play 4 notes on the E string. Being a professional bass player (i.e. your day job and not having to work in a bloody call centre) is only partly about actually playing the bass. Anybody's who'se up there doing it - well good luck to 'em I say

In six months time you'll be pig sick of playing Summer of 69 and Alright Now three times a week in theme pubs but you won't be able to leave because you've used the money to finance a new BMW. Your daughter will have forgotten who you are plus you'll be a grumpy git due to lack of sleep. Of course if you consider playing the covers circuit to be your day job (and it's probably better than my day job) then this opportunity might be just the ticket.
Got a computer? Download Groovebox. It's free and excellent.
I think you mean "got one of those ghastly Windoze machines" Having said that, as an otherwise Happy Mac user, there does not seem to be anything similar. The only one is iDrum which manages to be both expensive and utterly useless.

Has your band ever been paid off
thepurpleblob replied to goingdownslow's topic in General Discussion
It was somebody talking about agents and clubs that put a shudder up my spine. I've done every combination of Agent A booking on behalf of Agent B without even bothering to check what sort of audience it would be. Almost without exception club committees are megalomanic lunatics and it's made for some interesting nights. A few years ago I was playing in one of those "classic rock covers" stylee bands (all Queen, Free etc etc). The club was entirely populated by ballroom dancers - that was weird. The entertainment secretary said, "you're good boys but perhaps not our sort of thing". Also, the only gig where I have ever been propositioned by a real woman that smelt nice and wasn't drawing her pension (good when you're over 40, overweight, baldy and the bass player ) -
I did my first gig on the bass about 6 years ago. It was one of those multi-band charity gigs in a local pub. We play about 6 songs, nailed them all, nobody would believe it was my first ever gig and I had a great night. Unfortunately, hundreds of gigs later, it's never gone as well as that since. I'm still here I suppose
Fabulous hats worthy of any bassist available from here.
Cool.... I like the way you sent the link with the session ID so we can see what you are buying........ Indy

Hmmmm.... much as I like the blues I'm not enough of an addict to go see a whole night of it. I've been to some blues doos that where every song sounds the same (to me). On the other hand, I've seen some very entertaining blues bands where it isn't all about twenty minute solos. Anyway, you know which you are. You know if you appeal to "ordinary" punters. If the latter stop it with the negative talk and go do the gig. You have no idea how it's going to go unless you have a crack at it. What's the worst than can happen.... seriously??

NEW FLEA BASS, ORANGE WITH YELLOW GUARD :)
thepurpleblob replied to tom1946's topic in Basses For Sale
If you haven't seen this, here's a Fleabass in action.
Wow! I just sat and watched that transfixed. Even my bloody Stingray doesn't make a sound like that. I think he must have been digging in until his fingers bled though! -
£800 inc the two cases? Dunno what stuff like this goes for really. If you have a problem with it please PM not derail this
HOW MUCH!!!! Nah... sounds perfectly reasonable to me. It's still going to rush you well over a grand in the shops and I bet you won't find one that colour!!
