1. I have a very clean and very standard 3EQ Stingray in Black with a black pickguard and a maple neck. It's about 3 years old. It has a Bass Xtender fitted. There are no issues or nasties of any description. It lives in a standard MM case that came new with it. I've really gone over to 5 strings now and am looking for a trade for something similar in 5 strings. I'm very much open to offers but I'm thinking along the lines of a G&L L2500 (USA) a 5 string StingRay or suchlike. I don't like really narrow string spacing and I already have an Overwater Perception 5, so something different to that too. Other than that - try me. This is a feeler in that I'm fussy as this has been a fabulous bass and I didn't think I would get rid of it. I'd rather have something I will actually use though. I'm extremely reluctant to post... I don't mind travelling for the right deal (with reason of course). I'll sort some better photographs when I can find some daylight if someone would like them.
Better yet, come down the night before and stay at the B&B...we are pretty much all more on the mature age side than 21.....It was genuinly a great laugh last year.
Can't - I'm driving trains for the Bo'ness steam railway. Spotting a trend yet??? PS. I'm on the mature side of a multiple of 21 unfortunately!!
 3.
She might be charmed by us all. Unlikely
She drives trains for Scotrail. You work it out
 4.
Last year Alan originally had lots of guys say they would come down, who just didnt show, and made the do a bit of a letdown on numbers, but we had such a good crack he wanted to do it agian.... Dave
I was one of them. I did mean to come but my evil wife made me go on holiday with her on the same day. I might bring her along to be excruciatingly bored. Ha ha.
 5. Would I be allowed just to turn up on the Sunday? The web page makes the curry and drinking sound obligatory. As long as I don't have to play anything because I'm only a covers band player I would be happy to bring anything that seems interesting to anyone (see sig).
 6. It's a USA thing where the power is rubbish and even there Power Conditioners are a triumph of marketing over common sense. You don't need one. The input circuits of any decent amp will have all the surge and spike protection you will ever need.
 7.
Good evening one and all!! Okay - I know Feeler threads can p1ss people off a bit - but I'm trying to decide what to do and this may just help swing it!! I have Warwick Corvette $$ Nirvana Black 5 string - cracking example in excellent condition...however i'm not really using the B ..... already got a Geddy Lee Jazz which I love to bits, but could be persuaded to trade/swap the $$ for a maple neck Precision, Stingray????......what have you?????!!! PM me if you might be interested....lets hear what you've got peeps! I thank you and Goodnight!
It only exists in your imagination until there are pictures
 8.
Yep, that's fair comment I think. If you weren't so far away, I'd be tempted to have a play on your MM. Probably daft of me to dismiss it out of hand as I've never actually played one, but there you go. C'est la vie etc.
Your loss I think But yes, not exactly just up the road.
 9.
Cheers my friend. I'm not holding my breath though to be honest. It's a bit of a bugger - and a sign of the times - when even DFS marketing methods don't shift a beauty like this eh? Oh well, 6hours + to go.............................
That and you being fussy
 10.
Indeed But constantly adjusting your volume is only going to get you noticed in the wrong ways. The bass sometimes appearing too loud or disappearing is not good. Best to set levels at a sound check or at the beginning of a gig and play in a dynamic style. Anyway, this thread is meant to be about jazz basses, not us arguing over volume etiquette
That's not really what I meant but, yes, as you say - a different thread
 11.
volumes and tones are for show offs
Didn't say anything about tone controls. Dunno what they do. Just set it flat and hope!!!
 12.
Agreed totally on all counts. There's no need to play around with blends or volume in a gig. Play with a lighter or heavier touch, or adjust your rh playing position for different sounds. I'm a classical musician as well - cellist & double bass player. Rich.
Totally disagree...... but each to their own, eh?
 13.
Amps have volumes that are perfect for turning up and down! I actually treat my Jazzes as just having blends, my bridge is always maxed and I blend in the neck to suit. General volume is an amp thing, I rarely have to adjust mid-gig, and dynamics between different types of songs is in my fingers. Si
TBH.... I have a volume pedal and I use it all the time. I'm a big fan of dynamics - classical background, can't help it. But I sort of rest my case - a jazz is a bass without a volume control.
 14.
Surely this is the same? 2 volume knobs or 1 volume & 1 blend same thing! And if you don't have a tuner that mutes your signal......that's your fault lol Si
Not even slightly... you're in the middle of a gig and you want to adjust your volume. How do you do it without screwing up the blend? Don't tell me to turn both equally.... I won't believe you Or.. ditto... how to adjust the blend without screwing up the volume. You can't! It's a ridiculous arrangement.
 15. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Fender is round about half the price of the MusicMan is it not?
 16.
Nice looking bass, but not really my cup of meat I'm afraid. Good luck with the sale.
I'm crying here..... either are basses that I'd love to own
 17. Just for the record.... A A C D Eb A C Ab Ab C D Eb Ab C The technique still evades me but those are the notes - wasn't me, found the sheet music
 18. At the risk of stating the obvious make sure you try one. I hate the necks on a Jazz, far too skinny for me. Also, and I mention this at every opportunity, who's stupid idea was it to give it two volume controls?
 19. G&L..... oh sorry! (like a stingray only better but a 'Ray is still über cool)
 20.
Just been through the back catalog of Overwater Progress sales here and £800 seems to be the average! What you lot think of that!
Sounds ridiculously cheap. That bass would be well over 2 grand new, surely?
 21. What kind of things are you thinking about for a trade?
 22.
thepurpleblob: My ESP has "ESP Custom Guitars" sticker on back of the headstock. I don't think it means "real" custom shop, though. It is just one really cool MIJ jazz bass on steroids.
I don't know - I think you could be wrong there. Any ESP experts in the house?
 23. You missed th obvious selling feature - the dude out of Steely Dan (Tom Barney) played the five string version of the J5. I had a "custom shop" one (check for the little sticker) and it was a very good instrument indeed. I got rid because I can't stand the insanity of two volume controls when blend controls exist. I haven't a clue what it's worth - mine went in a rapid series of trading down starting with a TRB-4p ('p' note) and ending with G&L Tribute. I don't know if that helps. You should really put a price on these though - especially as they are both really obscure.
 24.
Someone has asked via PM. Although I wouldn't know where to start to measure the string spacing (at bridge?) accurately, research seems to suggest that the norm for this model and age seems to be 18mm, so I'm assuming that would be the case with mine. Have you something to offer in exchange?
Measure from the centre of the B sting to the centre of the G string on top of the bridge saddles. Divide by 4 (yes 4!) Dunno really.... my Black/Maple StingRay (4 string, 3EQ) is pretty much unplayed now I seem to gone over to the "dark side" (i.e. 5 strings). Don't know if that's up your street.
 25.
IIRC it took me a while to settle on that, I just went on the lack of raised eyebrows from other band members and that version got the least It's very difficult to hear what's played on the recording tho, so as long as what you play doesn't clash with what everyone else is playing you should be ok
Yeh - Radiohead can't even play in tune which doesn't help at all
