1. hmm, i might wait and see what happens, though i won't get my hopes up
2.
Well i just rang them, There was only one White musicman at that price. He cant tell me who got it as the orders havent been sorted and it wont be sorted til after christmas. Considering how long it took me and budget to get an order through i doubt either of us have got it.
Damn... EDIT: the money has come out of my bank.... it better go back in...
3.
Ok cool, I had a look for generic 'Fender pickups' but couldn't find anything labeled specifically that, but will any 'replacement' type set of pickups have the same kind of sound? Also, P/J sets seem to be uncommon, can I just wire up a seperate P and J pickup if it comes down to that? Or do I need a specific set. Good point, i didn't take into consideration the P/J config. You can wire up any passive pickups with any other passive pickups, and like i say, according to some people on here, wizard pickups have a very vintage sound I'm ok putting some new holes in, I'm just concerned about buying a bridge that has holes in the bottom for the strings to feed into string-though holes in the body. That's fine, you can buy bridges specifically for that, this cheapish one and this hipshot one both cater for that, though if you want something else, you don't necessarily have to use the string through body option, a lot of people don't think it makes much, if any difference. Thanks for the help. No worries
4. Hey Jon, there are a lot of cheap basses to cater for beginners these days, squier make some decent ones, there's one for sale on the classifieds on here at the moment. I hope you stick around and enjoy your stay You should come along to the nottingham bass bash in february, if you haven't picked a bass by then, you could have a go on some of our cheap basses i'm sure, and if you have one by then you could have a look at some more expensive basses as upgrades and get some good advice and just have a laugh Of course i'm sure people won't mind you playing whatever. Welcome to the forum Jon, have a good stay.
5. Haha, wow, that's not bad for £7.50! As for the little metal things, they're called ferrules, and you should be able to get them, and just about anything else from www.allparts.uk.com As for a fendery sound, get some fender pickups, doesn't get much more fendery than that. I've also heard wizard pickups sound good. As for the bridge... looks like a strange screw arrangement, i'm not sure what you could get for that unless you were confident enough to drill your own holes. A badass II might fit it with another two screw holes needed. But it might not. You know... that would look really nice if you sanded it down, stained it red and clearcoated it again...
6.
This is an illogical leap. Asking someone, quite reasonably, to qualify their statements, in the context that they are potentially damaging to a business, does not mean I am not calm. In any professional occupation, if someone makes ambiguous comments, which are potentially detrimental to business interests, then they should expect to qualify those comments, by providing details. If someone is going to accuse a shop of lying to them in such a black and white manner, then it is only reasonable to expect details to be provided, then, rightfully, potential customers can make up their own minds as to the facts. Without the facts, the allegation is unsubstantiated and indeed potentially damaging. This is a basic tenet of business. Regards AM
personally, i think that if it's been sorted, it's none of your business what happened.
7.
But that isn't good enough - your initial post on the subject stated explicitly that you had been lied to. As the only commentator I have seen making a negative comment about the gallery, it stands to reason that perhaps there is a learning point here for others. As others have said, anyone can have a bad day. You still haven't explained what actually happened, just made an initial strongly worded post then revised it, without any details about what the original issue was. When everyone complained about the Bass Merchant, they did not make ambiguous complaints with no basis. They made categorical statements with substantive issues detailed, i.e. lazy shop staff, not being allowed to try basses, etc etc. Like I stated previously, it is not acceptable to damage the reputation of a business with no proper basis. The gallery were professional enough to respond and make the effort to engage with you to understand their role in matters. This is a testament to their professional operating parameters. You should accordingly consider your own role and whether or not an apology or a proper correction from you is warranted. If it was a breakdown in communications then it will help others in the community to understand one way or another how to avoid a similar situation in the future. Like I said, we are quick to criticise poor service and far too slow to recognise great service. Regards AM
Sorry, but i think you're being a bit over the top here. For one thing, he never said it was without basis. Maybe he did have cause to be unhappy, the fact that it has now been sorted doesn't mean that it didn't happen, but it means it's been sorted and should probably be left alone. And he probably didn't post exactly what happened as it's not really appropriate for discussion if what has happened has been sorted now. I think posting the exact circumstances will make situations worse and provoke reactions such as yours. You need to calm down a little bit...
8. I'm not too sure about that, i'd assume it just has jack inputs for the mixer outputs so you could plug your bass directly into it. Considering the speaker has a power amp, yes your bass would be the preamp, effectively. Good for people that run their amp flat, not so good for people that don't. You can always buy a cheapish EQ pedal though.
9. Hmm, sounds like an interesting idea, though is it worth going into a railway modeling shop and asking for a track cleaning eraser?
10. Anyone can have a bad day i suppose, though from the quick response to try and solve the problem, it seems the gallery are keen to keep a good reputation unlike certain other london bass specific shops. And of course, the good i've heard far outweighs the bad (the bad being what you said macdaddy, i haven't heard anything else bad!)
11.
LM edition copperhead colour. Gorgeous! Anyway i used my Visa Debit card for the SR5, I can use Visa Chargeback if the company go into administration (With any luck)
Ooh yeah, very nice colour that. And that's good to hear! I used a visa debit too.
12. Which one was that? I'm rather partial to white...
13.
Nice rig! How do you power the speaker, if you don't mind me asking?
It's active, IE you plug it into the mains
14. Yeah i do it occasionally, just use masking tape (use one that isn't too wide, makes life easier for yourself) and use wire wool to clean the frets, simple. And no, the tape doesn't damage your fretboard.
15. Sounds like the pickup wire may have been a bit tight and when he raised it, it pulled off the contacts. Am I right?
16. I just turn the gain knob up or down depending which bass i'm using when i play live, couldn't be simpler I have my amp EQ set near enough flat and do all the EQing on my bass, simple.
17. Ooh cheeky
18.
You and me both. I assume that we aren't talking about haggling over being a tenner short of the total!
try £570 short I assume you won't take £70 for it?
19.
Well. 72 hours after selling my red SR5, I am now expecting a nice new white SR5 through my door soon
+1 Hopefully they have more than one!
20.
Does anyone know if they'll ship to your house from their stores? I.E. if I wanted something from the Glasgow store, would they ship it to my house?
Not sure about that but they'll at least ship it to your nearest store FOC if they're anything like sound control.
21. I'm pretty sure most of the stuff on that large clearance list will already be gone. I remember someone asking about that vampyre on here a few weeks ago and there's a few guitars on there that i rang up about a month or two ago that have been sold but are STILL there. Unless anybody knows otherwise, i'd appreciate if you could say so
22.
indeed, at Music Room "bass corner" really is a corner, and you cant turn around without knocking something off the wall, it is literally tiny.
Aye... Last time i went in there, my friend wanted a small amp for uni, asked if he could try a roland micro cube and the shop assistant said "are you going to buy it?" And i was just thinking... what a stupid question, he might if he likes it! My friend liked the amp. He then went and bought one from the guitar and drum centre for the same price where the staff were much more friendly.
23. I wish i could afford this, really
24. If you want a nice dead room, you could put a curtain rail all the way around the whole of the live room, that way you can make it as dead as you like. Or you could open the curtains and stick some ambient mics in thee. Curtains are surprisingly effective at acoustic damping. I put a curtain in my bedroom yesterday because it was so echoey as i had wooden blinds, hardly any echo now and it's only covering half of a wall. Especially put the curtains over the windows, for obvious reasons. I think the folds help to disperse the sound pretty well too...
25.
someone on alt.guitar.bass mentioned them having the Crate Powerblocks in for £50.
Haha i remember that, can't remember who told me, but i bought one for £50, sold it 9 months later on ebay for £105! Score!! I regret just buying the one
