1. Regarding the bridge, i have it fitted, but the allen bolts that came with it don't fit the metal inserts on the body, do you think the 3 screws will be alright on their own or would i be better off finding a bolt that fits the metal inserts, or removing the original metal inserts and putting in the new ones that came with the bridge and if so how would i go about it? EDIT: oh and i have the control plate on but only by one screw at either end because most of the screw holes don't line up and i'd rather not drill too many holes for it if i'm going to end up getting another one that may potentially use different screw holes.
2. Haha, yeah, well the bridge only cost me £6 or so and i can always buy new saddles i guess. Also got the neck on, was a pretty good fit. I had to drill 6 new holes because the top two were slightly out and i filled them with matchsticks and re-drilled. The middle hole, SUB basses come with those holes there and i think someone has just routed it so that the ferrules fit, not sure why, because you'd be screwing into the truss rod. Also someone before me had rouetd it for those ferrules, not me. I also plan on getting some nail varnish to go over where the paint has chipped (well, getting my sister to get it for me!)
3. Yeah it's those barrel saddles, the groove is on the right side of the screw, but just not far enough, and that's what i thought, as long as they fit and there aren't any sharp edges it shouldn't cause a problem.
4. I'm not sure to be honest, it'll sound how it sounds i suppose! I'm only going to bother with the two pickups though. Also after mounting the bridge and using some thin pieces of wire to see if it's all lined up properly, i've noticed that all the grooves on the bridge saddles are in entirely the wrong place. I'm wondering if it's worth moving the bridge to the left a bit like a flea bridge, or whether it's sensible to use a saw and/or file to cu some new grooves slightly left of the current ones?
5. I checked, it wont fit in the middle Haha nah, the OLP pickup came with the neck and control plate, eventually i'm going to get a chrome control plate and stuff too, i was mainly after the neck on that one. I'm not sure if i'll use the OLP pickup, i know i want to sue the basslines pickup, but not too sure about the OLP or status... the OLP one is a bit too fat to fit though without deepening the pickup route a bit.
6. So i finally got the body and bits. I should have everything i need now apart from pickup screws and foam which should be arriving tomorrow and pickguard screws . Basically what i have here is the SUB bass body routed for a neck humbucker, an OLP neck with black tuners, some cheap chrome tuners i may or may not fit, depending whether they fit or not, an OLP control plate, a status MM pickup, an OLP MM pickup, a seymour duncan basslines pickup, a cheapo bridge i got off the bay and some screws and bits. First thing's first i'm going to start getting the extra holes in the neck drilled.
7. I back some of the tone knobs off, but i play all actives and i don't need them all on full
8. Looks nice too, i'm liking the extra chrome bits and pickguard, that's a yummy yammy
9. As for me, USA fenders, waste of money to me P-basses, ugly as sin, horrible to play, sound like mud, everything i'd never want in a bass. HUGE pedal boards, all you'll really ever need is a tuner and compressor and occasionally a fuzz and wah unless you're im some crazy prog band (damn that actually sounds rather good!) valve heads, as the risk of sounding like a guitarist, it's just a bass, i know they don't just go dum dum dum like people think they do, but how much difference can a valve head REALLY make? Particularly for the money involved.
Wow, I'm surprised by the anti-Ashdown sentiments. My 2x10 cab was only just over £100, the head about £170 I think. Both are 100% reliable and loud enough to hear myself onstage [PA does the donkeywork]. For that sort of money, where's the beef?
What do you run? an electric blue? Me too, and i quite like it, there's some workable tone in there. It's not the best sounding stack, but for £250 i can't complain, and it's certainly not woolly when it's EQ'd right.
10. Thanks man t'is very nice, love the finish on the jaydee. Not a huge fan of the hofner style violin style basses but the flame top on that one makes it look pretty classy
11.
flea bridge? i thought flea used a BADASS on his modulus and a standard musicman bridge on his stingrays.
I can't remember why it was called the flea bridge, but i don't think it was his signature bridge or anything, it was a transitional bridge before they removed the mutes i think where the strings and pole pieces didn't quite line up or something.
12. Haha nooo, i just want that blue burst, so bad A shop near me has one with a maple neck... if only i could afford it
13. I think i want your jaydee!
14. I don't usually like yamaha BB series basses (though having tried one some time ago they do sound very nice, ugly as f*** though), but that thing looks HOT! I want it!!!
15.
Sometimes this just isn't possible though, and when GAS takes over it's very tempting to press the BIN button!
Been there, done that, paid with a cheque to a seller with low feedback, and got me a fantastic bass! Just goes to show...
16. That sparkle ray is awesome
17. dude.... how many knobs?
18.
Adding in my L2000 Tribute....
Wanna swap bodies? No seriously, that looks awesome!
19. Looking good man, you gonna paint her? What sort of pickup is that? a seymour duncan?
20. Good luck tonight, just get up there and have fun, remember, people have paid to come see you so they're not going to boo you off!
21. What i'd say is, if you're going for a single pickup, go for the first one, it has a more rounded tone, whereas my G&L seems to be configured like the second one you describe, and the bridge pickup is a lot more trebly, but blends nicely with the neck pickup.
22. I never knew him but it's a shock, and a shame, when it's a bassy, or indeed a basschatter, RIP.
23. You didn't drill the holes first?
24. Wow, that ASAT is a rather stunning colour! Here's my tribute L-2000 Mmm, maple boarded goodness
