1. I absolutely love this piece of music. A couple of years ago I was visiting my wife's parents in Nottingham and we spent the day in Highfields park (the main Notts Uni Campus). In the Djianogly Centre (don't even ask how you are s'posed to pronounce that) they often have art exhibitions and displays. We went in there on this one occasion and the room had a circle of 25 speakers all facing into the middle. Apparently Spem in Alium was written for five choirs of five people singing the different parts. So the 'artist' had individually mic'd up each singer separately and isolated from the others so you could walk round the circle and either hear one person singing on their own by standing right up against a speaker or stand close to one of the groups of 5 to hear their combined sound or just sit on the seat in the centre of the whole circle and I can only describe it as 'soak' in the whole amazing sound. It sounded simply incredible and without doubt the best sonic experience I have ever err..experienced. If everyone in the world could hear the beauty of that - this world might be a better place. *Edit - now I have bothered to watch the bloomin' video it is wot I woz talking about! Doh!
2. Since joining bass chat I have bought a Hartke A100 combo (which I would have needed anyway) and also a Squier P which I have done up. I can't say that either of these came as a direct result of being a member here, but the fact that one of my favourite searches on ebay is 'bass guitar' tells a lot even though I can't afford and don't have the space to buy any more!
3. I have often seen these and thought they look like they have had an accident but for travel purposes they might be ok. No idea what they play/sound like though: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ashbory-Bass-in-Metallic-Frost-Red-with-Gigbag-/170979256997?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item27cf286aa5

7.
That was one hell of a conversation.
my bad!

9. Not meaning to derail the thread but I have never seen anyone ever play bass with gloves on.
10.
Make sure you turn up at the correct venue at the right time on the right night and that you've brought your bass with you.
And the necessary mains/jack leads...we have all done it...turned up to play but forgot the mains lead to the amp etc....
11. Thanks Nottswarwick, Simple as that? Deffo no something I am doing wrong? (I have never used pedals before, but I have seen them being used). I have contacted the vendor and await their response....
12. I just bought a brand new Korg Pitchblack Poly Tuner pedal. I got it out the box and put the battery in. Then plugged my Squier P bass into and then from the pedal into the passive input in my Hartke A100. When I pressed the pedal I could hear the guitar coming through the amp. When I pressed it again there was no sound which I guess is how it should be. However the pedal didn't seem to register any of the strings being played. I wondered if it was because it hadn't been calibrated yet but the instructions said that it was calibrated at the factory. So why might this be? The other problem is that when I pressed the pedal it popped quite loudly through the amp. Surely it is not supposed to do this? Can any one help? Is my pedal faulty or am I missing something?
13. //And you can't make any assumptions just based on whether the pedal has the word "compressor" or "limiter" painted on it. For example, the Boss LMB-3 is marketed as a limiter, but it has a wide range of control over the ratio, so it can be used for any sort of compression; whereas the Boss CS-3 is marketed as a compressor, but it has an extremely high ratio, so it is really more of a limiter.// Ahh so that's cleared that up then...
14. ..And in the Darkglass fuzz them!
15. Seriously - unless you are playing at Bilbo's long awaited birthday party....why? Just why? 16. Leave the holes...if there is enough of them, you got a semi hollow body...sort of!
17. I just bought myself a Korg Pitchblack Poly tuner pedal. It arrived today so not plugged it in yet but a pedal tuner is whaaaay easier than the plug in one I got free with my bass guitar when I bought it. I have also been reliably informed that a compressor is a must have to iron out any unintentional variations in volume. The guy also said some kind of envelope filter but I forgot what type or what it actually does!
18. Bad me for not posting sooner. I bought a Hartke A100 from Dave back in February 2013 time. Very friendly bloke, was happy to let me try it and very smooth transaction it was!
19.
Hope you don't get seven-year itch.
Thanks! I have heard you can get powder for that!
20.
Congrats to you and your missus, Jonnyboy.
Gee thanks!
21.
Are there really people out there who think that being deceitful about purchases worth hundreds or thousands is a good way to behave in a committed relationship? Or who think so little of their wife that they reckon she can't tell one red bass from another? I really hope that it's just tongue in cheek jokey bravado, otherwise it's little wonder the divorce rate is so high.
I thought this thread was hilarious and so I read a few of the choice posts to my wife who also thought they were very funny! Would I dream of deceiving her about buying a new bass? NO! And BTW it is our 7th wedding anniversary today!
22. Hi, is this the newer version as I have an active bass and have heard that the early ones distort if you have an active bass? What underground station are you at?
23.
I accidentally bid on a SR505 on tuesday on ebay, you know, just another tenner over what it was on already, that won't make much difference.. err.. ok, so it turned up today A thing of beauty, goes with my SR1000EWM. So does anyone know if there is a fretless 5 string in the series, apart from those ones with a single pickup and whatever that large panel above it is.
jealous. ..
24.
What a wasted opportunity. "I'm looking after it for a mate for a while because his wife isn't as loving and understanding as you are". Warning: I've been married twice so please take my relationship advice with a large container of salty stuff.
plus freakin 1
25. You can tell her a mate asked you to look after it for a while.
